Chapter 869: What The Hell Is Going On?!
Kafka was still standing there, dazed and blinking, as the cheers and laughter around him blurred into white noise. Everything had happened so fast that his mind hadn’t caught up yet.

Meanwhile, Vanitas suddenly found herself the center of attention.

Lyra and Bella ran straight up to her, both of them throwing their arms around her at once.

“Congratulations, Auntie Vanitas!” Bella said brightly, her voice brimming with excitement. “You actually did it—you finally got your wish! You finally got Kafka to be your husband!”

Lyra’s smile was bright as she looked up at her.

“How does it feel, huh? It must feel amazing, right? You must be over the moon right now!” She clasped her hands together dreamily. “If it were me, I’d be jumping for joy if my greatest wish came true like that!”

Vanitas blinked rapidly, still caught halfway between disbelief and bliss. Her heart was pounding so fast that she could hardly think.

“I…I guess I’m happy.” She stammered, almost shyly, her cheeks flushed. “I really am happy.”

“Of course you are!” Lyra giggled. “You’re probably the happiest woman in the entire world right now!”

Bella elbowed her playfully, grinning. “Correction—the happiest goddess in existence!”

The two of them laughed together, their voices like music, and Vanitas couldn’t help but smile back, warmth filling her chest.

Then, from behind them, Seraphina approached quietly. Her usual cold expression was softened, her eyes gentler than usual.

And then, without warning, she bowed deeply—so low that everyone froze for a second.

“I offer my sincerest congratulations.” She said in her calm, formal tone. “To both you my lady and Master. May your bond bring eternal harmony and may your future be long and without misfortune.”

Vanitas blinked in surprise, her hands fluttering awkwardly. “Ah—thank you, Seraphina…that’s very kind of you.”

But before she could say more, June appeared from behind and quickly pulled Seraphina upright.

“You idiot.” She said fondly, sighing. “You’re not supposed to be that formal in a moment like this!”

Then she turned to Vanitas with a wide grin and casually said as if she just another one of her friends, rather then a literal god.

“Girl, you did it! You actually did it! After all that hard work—and all those flirty photos you sent me for advice…” She teased with a wink. “…you finally got what you wanted!”

“June!” Vanitas covered her face with her hands. “You don’t have to bring that up”

June only laughed, giving her a big thumbs up.

“You’re officially the idol of every girl out there! You’ve proved that with enough persistence and heart, you can even make your own son fall for you. You’re unstoppable!”

The group laughed warmly, and Vanitas couldn’t help but laugh along, her heart light and overflowing with joy.

But it didn’t stop there.

A familiar voice called from behind—Nina’s, playful and loud.

“All right, Vanitas, fess up!”

Vanitas turned just in time to see Nina and Camila walking toward her with identical mischievous smiles.

“You’ve got our money, don’t you?” Camila said, crossing her arms. “You’d better hand it over right now!”

Vanitas blinked, bewildered. “Bet? What bet?”

“Oh, come on!” Nina groaned dramatically. “Don’t tell me you’ve actually forgotten! We made a bet, remember?”

“Whether this whole thing would work or not. You were being all gloomy and saying it wouldn’t work out, and we bet in your favor.” She jabbed a finger toward her chest proudly. “And look! It worked!”

Camila chuckled, brushing her hair back with an elegant wave. “So now, dear Vanitas, we’re owed a bit of divine compensation. I believe a goddess always pays her debts, doesn’t she?”

“Yeah, yeah!” Nina added. “Don’t think we forgot about that, Vanitas. We might be simple mortals, but we do have some principles!”

Vanitas groaned softly, covering her face again as everyone laughed around her.

“Fine, fine.” She said with a helpless smile. “You’ll get your money, once we get back home.”

“Good answer!” Nina cheered, high-fiving Camila.

“Perfectly acceptable.” Camila agreed with a grin.

Then, in unison, both of them looked back at Vanitas with genuine warmth.

“Seriously, though.” Nina clapped her on the shoulder. “Congratulations. You deserve this.”

“Truly, Vanitas.” Camila nodded, her teasing tone softening. “You’ve earned your happiness.”

Hearing this, Vanitas felt her heart begin to race faster and faster. Every word of encouragement from her family seemed to flow through her chest, warm and overwhelming.

Their laughter, their smiles, their teasing—it all washed over her in waves of affection.

And then, from behind the crowd, came a voice choked with sobs.

“Vanitas…baby girl…you did it. You actually did it!”

Vanitas turned sharply, only to be swept into a crushing embrace by Abigaille.

The woman was trembling, crying openly into Vanitas’s shoulder as Olivia followed behind, holding her steady by the arm as if afraid she might collapse from sheer emotion.

“I’m so happy!” Abigaille sobbed, clutching Vanitas even tighter. “I’m so, so happy right now! You and Kafka—you’re finally together! You’ve waited for this for so long, and now you finally have him, just like you wanted!”

“I’m just—oh, I’m so happy for you, sweetheart! I don’t even know what to do with all this happiness! I want to tell the whole world about how happy I am!”

Her tears were contagious—Vanitas’s own eyes shimmered as she smiled through her own laughter.

Olivia also stepped closer, resting a calm hand on Abigaille’s shoulder before looking at Vanitas with that soft, knowing expression only she could have.

“I understand exactly how you feel.” She said, her tone calm but warm. “I’ve been in your position before, Vanitas.” She met her eyes knowingly. “I was once his mother too…and then I became his lover. I know the confusion, the fear, and the joy that comes with that.”

“That’s why…” Olivia’s cheeks turned a delicate shade of pink, but she smiled proudly. “That’s why…I’m truly happy for you. Because now, you’ve joined us.” She chuckled softly. “Now all three of us mothers have become lovers.”

That made Vanitas laugh, her voice light and melodic.

“It really is funny when you say it out loud.”

But before either of them could say another word, Bella threw her arms up dramatically.

“Okay, that’s it! Group hug! Everyone in! No one left out!”

“Wait—Bella—!” Vanitas started, but it was already too late.

Lyra, Bella, Nina, Camila, June, Seraphina, Abigaille and Olivia all piled in from every side.

Arms wrapped around her, squeezing tight, warm and real and for a moment, Vanitas couldn’t even see through the blur of smiling faces and warmth around her.

“Thank you…everyone.” She finally whispered, her voice trembling with happiness as she hugged them all back. “Thank you so much.”

She looked around at their faces—her family, her friends, her sisters—and felt her throat tighten with emotion.

“For so long, I stood at the peak of existence, thinking I didn’t need anyone. I believed I was above it all that family, friendship, love…none of it mattered to me.”

“But ever since I came to the mortal world, ever since I met my son…and all of you…”

Her voice cracked as tears finally spilled down her cheeks.

“I realized how wrong I was.”

The others grew quiet, listening intently as she continued.

“I realized that bonds like that—they’re what give life meaning. Without them, even eternity feels empty. But with them…”

She smiled, happy and sincere.

“With them, even a single moment can last forever. So…what I’m saying is t-that I’m so grateful to all of you. You’ve reminded me what it means to be alive.”

And in response, they all tightened their embrace, voices overlapping softly:

“We love you too, Vanitas.”

“We love you so much.”

“We’re family after all!”

And Vanitas laughed softly, tears glimmering like starlight as she whispered,

“I love you all, too.”

The moment was pure, glowing with warmth and unity—until, inevitably—

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!”

Kafka’s voice shattered the peace like a thunderclap.

Everyone turned to look at him at once.

He stood there, eyes wide, hands in his hair, looking absolutely done with everything.

“Seriously! What the actual hell is going on right now?!” He shouted, marching toward them. “One second there’s another me, the next second he turns into Evangeline, and then suddenly all of you start popping out of nowhere like it’s a family reunion?! I—what—how—WHY?!”

The whole group stared at him like they were annoyed he ruined their moment.

But Kafka didn’t care as he pressed a hand to his temple, groaning,

“Please, someone—anyone—just tell me what’s happening before my brain explodes!”

And then, from the edge of the crowd, came a familiar voice.

“I can explain that.”

Evangeline said calmly, floating forward with a satisfied smirk.

Seeing her, Kafka groaned immediately.

“Of course it’s you. It’s always you. You’re like the universe’s designated narrator at this point.” He threw his hands up. “You could seriously make a career out of explaining things, you know that? Like write stuff in movies or something.”

Evangeline’s smirk flattened into a mild frown.

“If you don’t want to hear it, then I won’t bother.” She turned her head away with a huff. “You can just sit there and stew in your confusion.”

“Wait—no, no!” Kafka said quickly, catching her hand in both of his. “I’m sorry, okay? Please don’t leave me hanging this time. Just tell me what’s going on, I beg you!”

She blinked at him, clearly amused, her lips curving into a sly grin.

“You’re lucky I find you cute when you’re desperate.”

Kafka whimpered again. “Just—just explain please.”

Evangeline chuckled softly, looking down below to see if she wasn’t wearing Kafka’s clothes anymore, before addressing what happened.

“Honestly, it’s not as complicated as it looks.” She began, her tone casual. “All of this, what just happened, it wasn’t some divine miracle or cosmic twist.”

“It was…well, let’s call it what it is: a little scheme.”

Kafka blinked. “A scheme?”

She nodded. “A sham. A scam. A plan. Whatever word you prefer.”

He stared at her blankly. “…You’re telling me all this insanity was just—what, a plan?”

“Exactly.” Evangeline’s smile turned mischievous. “A plan designed to make you admit your own feelings.”

Ignoring Kafka’s stunned face entirely, she crossed her arms and continued, her tone far too casual for the bombshell she was dropping.

“As you probably figured out by now, the entire family has been…well, working against you. For months.”

Kafka blinked. “Working against me?!”

“Oh, don’t be so surprised.” Evangeline’s grin widened. “You know what’s been going on behind closed doors.”

She turned toward the others, gesturing elegantly.

“You see, everyone’s been trying to make you change your feelings—to make you confess to her on your own or atleast accept hers. But no matter what we did, no matter how many chances we gave you, you just kept pushing it away.”

“That’s not—”

“Yes, it is.” She interrupted. “You always avoided it. Always changed the subject, brushed her off, or buried yourself in something else. And because of that, we were all running out of options.”

“We also didn’t just want to make Lady Vanitas happy…” She smiled affectionately toward Vanitas, who gave a shy smile in return. “…we had to. Not only because she’s family and we all care for her, but because…”

Evangeline’s tone grew slightly serious.

“…the world itself was at risk. If you didn’t accept her feelings, if you didn’t reciprocate, the balance would’ve collapsed. Everything would have fallen apart. And that was something none of us were willing to let happen.”

“So…” Evangeline went on, ignoring his confusion. “The family brainstormed. For days, weeks. We talked, we argued, we schemed—oh, the headaches we got over it.”

She rubbed her temple dramatically while Lyra and Bella giggled in the background.

“We were desperate to find a plan that would actually work on you. Because, honestly, nothing else did.”

“And then…” She said, her eyes lighting up. “…we came up with it—the perfect plan.”
