Chapter 975: The Skills and the Caravan
Vasco’s story wasn’t really that unique. However, the reason they felt that there was more to it was quite obvious: the fog that he used to arrive was simply too huge, and it also felt violent!
It doesn’t match for a craftsman like him!
Still, the workers knew that it wasn’t their task to know about another Survivor’s secrets. It would be Fiona’s job to learn more about the man.
Nonetheless, Vasco continued.
“I don’t know why I was spared,” Vasco continued. “But I know what I can do. I can build ships. Not just small boats, but vessels that can weather storms, carry armies, and cross seas. If this place truly seeks to thrive on the coast, then you’ll need me.”
Fiona studied him carefully and gently nodded. She guessed that the man was gifted with some high-level talent or skills that could probably shock her.
She could ask about it later on…
“A shipbuilder…” she murmured… “What a perfect timing… Maybe this is also because of Shane’s talent.”
Still, the fact that Vasco was actually a shipbuilder finally sank in to the workers…
Lawrence’s eyes widened. He had seen Shane’s fleet, but to hear that this man could craft ships of his own… it meant Blue Haven’s strength could grow even further.
The workers whispered among themselves. A man who could build ships was definitely going to be an important figure in the Reaper Sea.
Just like that, the man was finally invited to the shelter…
Without a doubt, this person would definitely receive special treatment.

Fiona personally escorted Vasco into the shelter.
She arranged for him to stay in a studio unit within the inner district. It was a modest space, but far more comfortable than the living space he had before.
She ordered food to be brought to him, knowing he must have been starving after being trapped for an unknown number of years.
Then, Vasco ate quietly, savoring every bite of the hot meal he thought he could no longer have…
There was both gratitude and disbelief in his eyes at the warmth of real meals.
Three hours later, after Vasco had walked the streets and learned more about Blue Haven’s situation, the dockyard, the fleet, the growing population, Fiona finally returned.
She wanted to know what kind of skills this man truly possessed.
“Vasco… You should’ve rested enough. Now, tell me… what skills do you have?”
Vasco nodded, his expression was calm but confident.
“I am not just a craftsman. I am a Shipbuilder. My skills are specialized for the sea, for survival, and for war.”
He then revealed his abilities to Fiona.
[ Hull Reinforcement Lv10 (Max): A specialized skill dedicated to strengthening ship hulls against storms, collisions, and attacks. It grants the following benefits:
+50% durability of ship hulls and plating
+50% resistance to breaches from sea creature attacks
+50% speed when repairing damaged hull sections ]
[ Naval Architecture Lv10 (Max): A skill that allows the Shipbuilder to design and construct advanced vessels optimized for survival and combat. It grants the following benefits:
+40% efficiency in ship layout and resource storage
+40% chance to unlock unique ship designs (combat, cargo, exploration)
+40% speed in blueprint drafting and construction planning ]
[ Stormbreaker Rigging Lv10 (Max): A skill that specializes in sails, masts, and propulsion systems, ensuring ships can withstand violent seas and storms. It grants the following benefits:
+60% stability of ships during storms and whirlpools
+60% resistance to mast and rigging collapse
+60% speed in setting up or repairing propulsion systems ]
[ Salvage & Repurpose Lv10 (Max): A skill that equips the Shipbuilder with expertise in dismantling wrecks, reclaiming materials, and repurposing them for new vessels. It grants the following benefits:
+50% precision in dismantling shipwrecks and naval debris
+50% chance to salvage rare materials from wrecked vessels
+50% speed in repurposing salvaged parts into usable ship components ]
Fiona couldn’t help but feel impressed with this set of abilities.
These weren’t ordinary skills. They were max-level and specialized abilities that could change the balance of power in the Reaper Sea.
“Ships that can weather storms… ships that can fight back against sea creatures…” she murmured. “No wonder the fog was so violent when it brought you here.”
Blue Haven already had six ships, but with Vasco’s skills, they could build a fleet unlike anything the survivors had ever seen.
Without a doubt, Vasco’s arrival was not a coincidence. It was destiny…
Unfortunately, Vasco was just alone… Even with the Super Soldiers helping him and many other workers, it would take them about two or three months to create a medium-sized ship that could carry about a hundred people.
If they planned to make a large wooden ship that could carry up to 300 people, they’d probably need six months or so for that to be built.

In the meantime, as everyone was busily working, a bell rang a few times.
Lawrence paused, wiping sweat from his brow. It wasn’t the sharp alarm that signaled danger…
Instead, the bell chimed steadily with a softer rhythm.
Workers exchanged glances. “That’s not an enemy alarm…” someone muttered.
Soon, word spread quickly… Apparently, a merchant caravan had arrived and was entering Blue Haven Shelter.
This was the first time such a caravan had come since the shelter’s establishment.
Survivors dropped what they were doing as they were curious about this Caravan…
For many, the idea of outside merchants was interesting… It means that there would be new goods, rare items, and perhaps even luxuries they hadn’t seen in a long time.
Of course, there are many other shops established within the Shelter already. They were also providing everyone’s needs, and very important.
However, a caravan from time to time to see the specialties of other Shelters would do good than harm.
Fiona moved swiftly after realizing what was happening.
As caretaker in Shane’s absence, it was her duty to meet the caravan leader and negotiate the terms of entry.
Taxes, trade rights, and security measures all had to be settled before the merchants could set up shop.
‘Wait, no… They have to be checked for infection first.’ Fiona thought as she swiftly called for the physicians to wait at the gate…
After all, even if they have the anti-virus serum, it was better to be careful and eliminate any threat outside the gates.
‘Ugh… It’s getting really busy these few days… Shane, where the heck are you?’
