Chapter 973: Sea Reports
[ Coastal Runner Ship: A mid-sized combat vessel designed for survival at sea. Built with enhanced iron and spirit‑engine propulsion, it can carry squads safely across hostile waters while defending against enemies. Its hull is sturdy enough to withstand collisions, and its deck is arranged for both transport and combat operations.

Passenger Capacity: 38

Defense Cannons: 6, mounted along the sides for wide coverage

Propulsion: Spirit‑engine drive

Interior: Barracks, storage compartments, and a command cabin.

Special Feature: Rapid Deployment Ramp. The ship is equipped with a boarding ramp that can be lowered quickly for fast embarkation or evacuation. ]

This was one of Shane’s precious ships, and one of the reasons why he chose to build a shelter in this area!

Just like that, the ship floated proudly on the water with its cannons swiveling into position…

Eugene’s jaw dropped. “What the… A… ship? You have a ship? How… Wait! Is that something you got in the Auction Event?!”

He finally recalled hearing about this matter. However, he knew that those things are so expensive…

‘Ugh… he’s super rich. He probably got more of them.’ He muttered.

Shane then landed lightly on the deck as his Flight Skill’s duration had finally ended.

As he glanced at the merman, Shane could tell that he was in shock…

Survivors rarely had ships. Even if one was able to find some abandoned ones, they were mostly destroyed or impossible to maintain, according to the chat.

To see one summoned so casually was also beyond his expectations.

“This… is incredible. If you have many of these ships, you might really conquer that island.” Eugene muttered softly with disbelief in his voice.

Shane’s eyes squinted as he heard that.

‘An island? Is it a treasure island that he couldn’t conquer himself?’ Shane mused as his interest piqued.

“You… you’re Rank 1 for a reason. You’re prepared for everything.” Eugene said with a laugh.

Shane didn’t comment on that and just showed the Prime Silver Sword and pouch of Spirit Stones.

“Now, Eugene. I’ll give you these Spirit Stones and the sword. I need the information, and then… your promise. You leave Blue Haven alone.”

Eugene finally nodded while still half-submerged in the water.

“This ocean… we call it the Reaper Sea,” he said.

“It isn’t like the ordinary waters you’ve seen before. Beneath the surface, there are regions filled with mutated zombies that can live underwater. They were once sea creatures… Just normal sharks, eels, even whales that devoured infected corpses drifting from the land. The infection twisted them, reshaping them into some mutated zombies. Some became humanoid fish‑zombies, walking on fins and claws. Others grew hard shells, barnacle-covered armor that makes them nearly indestructible. There are even swarms of jellyfish that release toxins that could turn one into a zombie or burn your flesh…”

He paused for a moment as he considered his words carefully.

“But they don’t enter the Safe Zones. That’s the only reason I’m alive.”

Shane nodded as he guessed as much. No matter how huge this sea was, it would be very tough for a long Survivor to survive this long while living together with the Sea Creature Zombies.

“What is this Safe Zone?”

Eugene shrugged. “It’s a special zone… probably created by the System, or maybe through some unknown method like stones, magic arrays, I don’t know. All I know is that the water inside is pure. No infection spreads there. Fish can live normally, and survivors like me can breathe without fear of being hunted. There should be dozens scattered across this sea. I control a few of them, but others are held by rival Survivors, Neutral Shelters, and Clans who linger nearby. Again, they won’t go to these Safe Zones… Unless I control them or someone with skills like me forces them to do so like what I did to attack your shelter.”

Shane listened carefully, then tossed the Prime Silver Sword and the pouch of Spirit Stones across the waves. Eugene caught them, his eyes were immediately filled with satisfaction as soon as he confirmed the Legendary Sword.

After all, he had been living here for a long time, but he had only succeeded twice when upgrading his items to Legendary Grade!

Apparently, most of the time, whenever he tried to upgrade from Epic to Legendary, they would turn back to Common Grade, or worse, they would shatter into pieces.

This Prime Silver Sword was his third Legendary Item!

“Good,” Shane said firmly. “Now you keep your promise.”

Eugene smiled faintly, clutching the treasures. “I will. And since you’ve kept your word, I’ll give you more information…”

Shane smiled and allowed him to continue.

Eugene then took a deep breath and revealed information that Shane would really need.

“The Reaper Sea isn’t just dangerous because of the zombies. There are currents here that don’t belong to nature. They drag ships into whirlpools that lead to caverns below. Some survivors like me with Talent or Skill to live within the sea could fall in and never return. I have no clue if there were some kind of nests where the infection breeds new monsters… or maybe places the System hasn’t revealed yet.”

“Whirlpools that lead to caverns? That’s interesting.” Shane muttered.

Though he had no ability to explore that, he couldn’t help but find it interesting.

Eugene then gestured to the vast sea ahead of them…

“Beyond this coastline, there are larger Safe Zones. One of them is controlled by a Clan that built floating platforms chained together. They trade food and weapons, but they demand tribute from anyone who passes. Another Safe Zone lies near the Coral Graveyard, where the skeletons of some large beasts rest. That place is dangerous…”

Eugene considered for a moment before he added more.

“There are other islands out there. However, you have to be careful. There’s a reason why some other Clans or Survivors weren’t establishing their territories in those places. This sea is not yours to conquer easily. But if you’re prepared… you’ll survive through it.”
