Chapter 969: Under Siege!
Clang! Clang! Clang!
The alarm bell rang across Blue Haven Shelter.
Immediately, workers outside the inner wall dropped their tools and began retreating. The foremen shouted for order, guiding them back through the gates.
Everyone knew the drill already… The inner wall was the only one high enough to withstand a proper Zombie Wave.
The outer defenses were still crude… At the moment, they were just sharpened wood stakes and fences that could slow enemies but not stop them.
There weren’t even proper traps yet.
Furthermore, since the enemies were coming from the sea, there wasn’t really a wall built around this area…
Yet no one panicked.
The Automated Turrets installed in key areas were activated, with their barrels rotating toward the coastline. Watchtowers were also there… Each of them was manned by at least three snipers who calmly checked their scopes.
It didn’t end there… There were also carts with mounted machine guns being moved into position… There were already crews loading belts of ammunition.
They had all practiced this for emergency situations like now.
‘I should be fine… Just follow the training.’ Lawrence thought as he moved with the group. None of them carried heavy tools as well, so they could move quickly, and it was something strictly enforced. There was nothing more important than their lives. Tools could be remade or bought, but not their lives…
Soon, Lawrence also saw the Warden Units moving past their group.
“Ahh… They’re here… Perfect!”
“Awesome! Kill them all!”
“Those Sea Zombies! They’re dirtying the ocean! Destroy them!”
“You can do it, Metal Guys!”
Everyone cheered seeing the imposing Warden Units…
They marched into formation with their rifles and shock batons ready.
On the other hand, the Super Soldiers just lifted their iron pipes, eager to smash whatever came close.
Finally, there were the mages. Sona, the Ice Mage behind the Warden Units, with her staff glowing with frost. Otto, the Fire Mage, was also getting ready.
Even without Shane and Tundra present, the defenders of Blue Haven were confident.
Soon, more and more Zombies appeared from the sea…
“They’re Scaled Human Fish Zombies! High-Tier Zombies!” a sniper shouted from the tower, reminding them that they weren’t actually dealing with Low-Tier or Mid-Tier Zombies!
These creatures were actually High-Tier! They weren’t like Shark Zombies that most of them had seen before.
Soon, the first batch surged forward, crawling onto the rocks and rushing toward the outer barricades… Well, these barricades were just a simple blockade for large waves and not really for Zombies…
Nonetheless, it was a good start to block the Zombies from the sea.
Just like that, their shark-like teeth snapped, and their claws scraped against the stone.
“Open fire!” the defense leader shouted!
Soon, the turrets unleashed a hail of bullets, cutting down the first wave instantly.
Machine guns also rattled from the carts, mowing through the creatures as they scrambled ashore. Snipers picked off those who tried to climb the barricades, each shot was not wasted as they ensured to destroy their tiny brains!
[ You have eliminated a Scaled Human Fish Zombie. ]
[ You have eliminated a Scaled Human Fish Zombie. ]
…
[ You have eliminated a Scaled Human Fish Zombie. ]
The notification continued, but still, more came.
Dozens more rose from the surf…
“Hold the line! Our upgraded bullets are piercing them easily! Just shoot!”
Indeed, these Zombies weren’t like those in the Red Night Event, with an upgraded defensive aura around them that makes it difficult for bullets to pierce through their bodies.
Although these Zombies had very tough scales, their bullets weren’t regular ones either. Furthermore, the Mk.V Turrets had also become stronger…
Perhaps, only the Machine Guns with Tier 2 Bullets were having trouble killing these Zombies.
Still, they were doing more than enough to suppress them.
After a few moments, when the Turrets and Machine Guns had reached their limit and had to cool down, the Warden Units finally advanced… This time, with their Rifles and shock batons!
Super Soldiers also charged, swinging their pipes with their raw strength!
They do not have armor but they do not care!
One creature leapt at a soldier, but was caught while it was still in the air and smashed into the ground, its skull crushed.
Bam!
The battle on the frontline got intense as more and more Zombies kept popping up like there was a Zombie Wave Event!
‘Let’s slow them down a bit…’ Sona thought as she raised her staff, and a wall of ice erupted across the shoreline, freezing several zombies in place and letting the Super Soldiers and Warden Units have a bit of a break.
After the freezing effect was removed, Otto followed with a wave of fire, igniting the creatures until they burned to ash!
“Hmm… We probably got a bout three hundred Zombies already. This should stop pretty soon, right?” Otto muttered…
Sona frowned… “What? You’re so unlucky… You jinxed it. Look! There are more.”
Indeed, a few hundred more came out as if it would never end!
Still, even if the battle raged for two more hours, they actually defended it with zero casualties!
Every time a zombie broke through the outer fence, it was met with overwhelming force. Super Soldiers tore them apart with their pipes or even their bare hands, while Warden Units electrocuted them!
The snipers also have an almost unlimited bullets, and the turrets would always support them after cooling down!
Lawrence, standing near the inner wall, watched in awe. He wasn’t fighting directly, but he helped guide other civilians to safety, and he even started carrying ammunition to the machine‑gun carts and made it faster.
“Ammo here!” he shouted, tossing a crate to the gunners.
“Good man!” one of them replied, reloading quickly before unleashing another burst into the horde.
The Sea Creature Zombies kept coming, but their numbers dwindled. For every one that reached the barricades, ten were cut down before they even touched land.
By the time the waves receded, the shoreline was littered with corpses….
It was at this time that Shane finally arrived and saw more than a thousand Zombie corpses in the coastal area!
‘What the heck happened here?!’ Shane was shocked as he had just gotten out of the Fairy Realm!
