Chapter 966: New Residence
In the meantime, within the Springriver Manor, the people from the Silver Mine Camp who had temporarily settled there were finally given news!

A new shelter had been established near the coastline.

This was already five days after Shane arrived at the shelter.

There were some delays since he had decided to only transfer Warden Units, vehicles, construction supplies, Super Soldiers, Mute Builders, and others during the first few days.

After all, Shane wanted the place to be more organized and with various leaders to manage people before accepting the new residents.

Nonetheless, the news of the news shelter made many feel relieved.

After all, life inside Springriver Manor was safe, but space was scarce. Families were crammed into small rooms, and some had been forced to live in tents along the outer walls.

Although new houses were being built every day, progress was slow. With thousands of survivors from the Silver Mine Camp, the shelter was simply too crowded. There were even large Merchant Caravans passing by from time to time, plus the influx of Survivors or Scavengers who had heard about the reputation of the shelter…

“A new shelter!”

“It’s even on the coastline?”

“Haha… Shipbuilding skills will finally be used!”

“That’s true! I have Navigator Talent! I can finally use this!”

“Awesome!”

Just like that, the announcement that transfers would begin through the newly activated portal spread quickly.

However, only one hundred people could pass through each day, so the process would be gradual.

The first group selected was construction workers and craftsmen, those with talents needed to build and shape the new settlement.

After all, aside from a few defensive structures and the manor, the Blue Haven Shelter only had the villa that could house a few hundred people.

It was still bare compared to the other shelters, and it needed hands to raise walls, houses, barracks, and kitchens.

Still, even if that was the case, not everyone wanted to leave.

Some had already found decent work inside Springriver Manor and preferred to stay where life was stable. They also liked the atmosphere here with the river and trees nearby.

Many of them didn’t really like the idea of being close to the sea. The breeze or even the weather there would be completely different.

However, others, especially miners, were eager to be transferred. Apparently, the news of a nearby quarry at Blue Haven meant their skills would be valued again.

If that were the case, they’d probably earn more.

***

Among those chosen for the first transfer were Lawrence and Shania, a couple who had endured the hardships of the Silver Mine Camp together.

Lawrence was a construction worker, skilled in bricklaying and stonework. His hands were calloused from years of labor, but he carried himself with quiet pride. Shania was a cook, known for making simple meals taste better even when supplies were scarce. Together, they had managed to survive by supporting each other.

At Springriver Manor, they had only been living in the outer wall’s shelter tents… It was a cramped space with thin partitions and little privacy. Nights weren’t cold thanks to the heaters, but the noise of the crowded camp never stopped.

For them, the chance to move to Blue Haven Shelter was more than just relocation; it was a chance to start fresh.

Furthermore, they were promised that all the first thousand settlers would have their own houses within the inner wall of the new territory…

So, when their names were called, Shania squeezed Lawrence’s hand. “Finally… we’ll have a proper place.”

Lawrence nodded. “And work… They’ll need houses, walls, kitchens. We’ll be useful there.”

The two joined the line of selected workers, each carrying a small pack of belongings. Around them, others murmured with mixed emotions… Some of them were excited, while others were still hesitant.

Soon, they were brought to the Portal Hall…

They had travelled here through a truck, so this was their first time seeing the shelter…

One by one, survivors stepped through the portal, vanishing in a flash of light.

When it was their turn, Lawrence adjusted the strap of his pack and looked at Shania. “Ready?”

She smiled faintly. “As long as we’re together.”

They then stepped forward, crossing the threshold…

Whom~

The sensation was brief… They just felt a pull, then a rush of light… and suddenly they were standing inside the previous function hall or Portal Hall of Blue Haven Shelter.

They were soon guided to move outside since there would be more people to transfer.

As soon as they got out, they immediately felt that the air was colder, carrying the scent of salt and sea.

“Whoa~”

It had been a long time since they felt the sea breeze. Many of them couldn’t help but feel nostalgic…

After this, they soon focused on the surroundings…

They were indeed near a villa, and there was certainly not enough space to house thousands of people at once.

Perhaps, it could only handle a few hundred people in the villa.

“There’s indeed going to be a lot of work.” Lawrence muttered after seeing that the place was bare, with plenty of scaffolding and tools scattered around as workers prepared for construction.

Soon, a few other Survivors wearing some nice robes arrived…

“Welcome to Blue Haven Shelter,” one of them said. “You’ll be assigned quarters based on the application you all submitted… You will follow the Warden Units for your assigned lodgings… After that, report to the construction foreman. We need hands on the new housing blocks. For the cooks, you need to go to the east wing and look for Alexa… For the blacksmiths…”

A series of instructions was soon given. Thankfully, it seemed that there were no issues with Lawrence’s residence application, and he would still live together with his partner.

The two then swiftly followed the Warden Unit’s instruction and were soon guided to their new lodgings within the villa.

The couple then exchanged a quick glance and smiled as soon as they found their new home…

“I love it…” Shania whispered as the two immediately settled their things.

“This place looks comfortable… I just hope that we’re not going to deal with Sea Creature Zombies or something.” Lawrence muttered.
