Chapter 945: Shane’s Inspection
Over the next few days, the Husbandry Unit was assigned tasks. Kimberly and two others were placed in charge of the rabbits, learning how to build hutches from salvaged wood and wire mesh.

The tall man was assigned to goats, while two women were tasked with pheasants. The youngest boy and another survivor were given responsibility for the mice.

Of course, there would still be some rotations happening, and this was just a temporary measure… Mr. Wadsworth actually wanted all of them to experience caring for these livestock.

Still, Construction crews worked alongside them, erecting pens and enclosures.

A small barn was built for storage, with racks for feed and tools. Water lines were connected to reservoirs, ensuring a steady supply. Even a quarantine shed was prepared, in case any animal showed signs of sickness.

Everything was thought of…

Just like that, Kimberly’s days changed completely. No more endless pots and trays in the kitchen…

She didn’t even have to worry about her replacement in the kitchen since everything was handled smoothly…

Now she woke early, rode her foldable e-bike to go to work after breakfast, checked the cages, cleaned straw, and whispered to the rabbits as she fed them. She learned to recognize signs of stress, hunger, and breeding readiness from that…

The others slowly warmed to each other. They shared meals, traded stories, and laughed at mistakes… like when one of the goats chewed through a worker’s sleeve, or when the pheasants startled and sent feathers flying everywhere…

It was such a new and pleasant experience for them.

The most important thing was the fact that even if they weren’t killing Zombies, they were actually slowly gaining Experience Points!

It was as if the system were encouraging them more to use their Talents!

That was incredible information, and apparently, this was confirmed by the higher-ups as well.

It seemed that thanks to the recent updates of the System, the Survivors with a specific type of Talents could actually gain experience points by using them. Like the Sculptors, Potters, or Ceramic Arts, Chef, and others…

For Kimberly, it was exhausting but fulfilling with such a reward… Furthermore, like the others, they were all feeling a sense of purpose for what they were doing right now…

***

In the meantime, Mr. Wadsworth visited daily. He was inspecting their progress, and this would be done for a month or two before he’d just let them work on their own…

He asked for reports, checked feed levels, and reminded them of the stakes.

“Always remember, these animals are not merely sustenance. They are the future. If you succeed, the Eclipse Domain will lead the way in sustainable husbandry, and other shelters will follow your example.”

Well, he wasn’t really sure if those words were effective with these Foreign Survivors, but he was doing his best to follow Shane’s instructions.

Then, by the end of the week, the facilities were nearly complete. Pens already looked a lot better, cages lined in rows, and aviaries secured with netting. The Husbandry Unit had settled into their roles, and each survivor already felt familiar with their jobs.

“Ho~ I really hope tomorrow’s inspection will be fine…’

Kimberly would return to her apartment each night exhausted, but no longer restless. Her work was truly fulfilling compared to her previous job as a kitchen helper…

Still, she couldn’t help but feel nervous knowing that Shane, the Shelter owner and the most powerful figure in this land, the Rank 1 Survivor in the Leaderboard, and the Clan Leader of the Top 1 Clan, would be visiting them tomorrow in their workplace!

Apparently, Shane wanted to see the constructed pens and cages for their livestock, including the Husbandry Unit caring for them.

***

The next morning, the Husbandry Unit gathered early at the agricultural sector.

Kimberly rode her foldable e‑bike, a little bit nervous as she passed the newly built pens. The rabbits were already stirring, the goats bleating softly, and the pheasants would always flap their wings in their aviaries.

Everyone was tense. Today wasn’t just another inspection… Shane himself was coming.

Mr. Wadsworth arrived first. He looked good as always with the clipboard in hand. He gave them a sharp nod as soon as he confirmed their presence.

“Commander Shane will be here shortly. Ensure everything is in order. Pens clean, animals fed, no mistakes.”

The eight survivors moved quickly, checking cages, refilling troughs, and brushing straw into neat piles. Kimberly whispered to the rabbits, calming them so they wouldn’t panic when the crowd arrived.

Suddenly, a group of people arrived, and it was led by none other than Shane…

The latter approached, escorted by several officers… He was also together with two companions and they looked so beautiful!

They had no idea about their names, but they knew that those two were elves!

Nonetheless, their attention focused on Shane, who seemed more handsome and dignified compared to the statues and paintings they had seen from others.

Shane immediately went to work as he surveyed the pens… He paused at the rabbits, then at the goats, then at the pheasants. Finally, he turned to Wadsworth.

“They look healthy…” Shane said simply. “Good work.”

Wadsworth bowed slightly. “The Husbandry Unit has taken their duties seriously, Commander. They’ve adapted quickly.”

Shane’s gaze swept over the eight. Kimberly felt her chest tighten when his eyes paused on her for a moment. She straightened her back instinctively, trying not to fidget.

Shane then stepped to the rabbit pens.

“What’s your biggest problem so far?” he asked with his eyes still on the animals.

Kimberly thought for a moment before she replied…

“Noise and crowd stress during construction. They startle and stop feeding if it’s too loud. We’ve been whispering to them, calm and covering the cages during peak hours.”

Just like that, Shane asked everyone about their concerns since, after all, they were the only ones who could truly understand these animals.

Kimberly and her group were basically the representatives of these livestock.

After almost an hour, Shane finally felt satisfied and, of course, he wouldn’t just leave without rewarding his hardworking ’employees’…

He didn’t hesitate and brought out eight Skill Potions he made himself!

Of course, it wasn’t the cheap Five-Meter Jump Skill or the Armored Dash Skill… Instead, it was the potion that required a tiny amount of Zombie Lord Blood and 200mL of Hunter Zombie’s blood!

It was the Shadowbound Step Skill!
