Chapter 940: Discoveries
Shane wasn’t exactly sure about the situation beyond this continent. However, since he had the ships and boats with him, he decided that his next shelter would need to have access to the vast seas.
He didn’t expect that they would actually discover something huge by doing so.
‘Sofia, huh…’ Shane thought as he hadn’t heard that name for some time…
Most records about her were fragmented, redacted, or outright destroyed. But if Tundra had found a direct reference, especially from someone tied to the Genesis Cure, then this changed everything.
He then replied to Tundra’s messages.
[ Shane: Good work. Expect me to be there in two weeks or so to set up the Gate Portal… If there are Zombie Nest or Zombie Lord Territories nearby, don’t engage it. Better be safe for now since you won’t have any reinforcements. ]
Well, since he planned to make this new shelter livable for 10,000 people and migrate the 2,000 people or so who were originally from the Silver Mine Camp, there would be a lot of things to do…
Transporting resources or building materials, including people, wouldn’t be good if it were done through normal means.
After all, it would be too slow and also dangerous to travel that far with so many in tow…
With that in consideration, Shane knew that he just had to visit once and set up the portal or anchor point, so the construction workers and the resources they needed to build the new port city could arrive safely through the gates already built in his other shelters.
‘If the Super Soldiers, the Mute Builders, and all the workers can be mobilized, then it shouldn’t be a problem to build a decent shelter within six months or so.’ Shane thought to himself…
He was actually quite excited about the idea of leaving this continent on his ships.
Now that Eden Island was mentioned, he couldn’t help but imagine that it was a haven with no traces of Zombification or any mutations at all.
Perhaps the virus had only spread in this continent, and the other islands were actually safe, and there might be a huge population of thriving people out there somewhere.
‘That would be interesting if that was really the case…’ Shane thought.
He then stood from the fountain and began walking toward the central plaza…
If the virus hadn’t reached the outer islands, then everything they knew about the outbreak’s origin might be wrong. Maybe it wasn’t global. Maybe it was contained… at least at first. That would explain the redacted files, the missing timelines, and why so many labs had conflicting data.
And if Sofia was still alive… or even if her body had been preserved in cryostasis or some kind of containment, then the genetic material could be the missing piece. This was not just for stabilizing the Genesis Cure, but for understanding the virus’s behavior across different regions.

Still, before heading toward the plaza or the marketplace, Shane checked the rest of his unread messages. This one from Sandra.
He tapped it open.
[ Sandra: Commander, we’ve scouted the area east of the red lake. We found a partially submerged town near the lake… We didn’t find any records of it, but we found a sign. Laketon. That’s what we calling it for now. ]
[ Sandra: About 60% of the town is underwater, but the remaining structures are surprisingly intact. The buildings on the elevated northern slope are still stable. They had decent stone foundations, old-world architecture. Some of the rooftops even have chimneys. It probably gets really cold here. ]
[ Sandra: We’ve confirmed no active zombie presence in the dry zone. The submerged area has a few Zombies. Mostly bloated types and other low tiers… But they’re slow and easy to deal with. No signs of a Nest or Lord-class signature. ]
[ Sandra: The lake itself is massive. Freshwater. We have plenty of filters, right? I think we can easily clean them up and make them a source of water. We found old purification stations near the dam, and one of them still has power. If we can restore the electric grid, we might be able to reactivate the water treatment system. ]
[ Sandra: There’s also a collapsed bridge leading to a small island in the center of the lake. We couldn’t reach it yet, but from the scans, it looks like there’s a bunker or some kind of reinforced facility there. Might’ve been a research outpost. ]
[ Sandra: As for resources… We got plenty. ]
[ Sandra: There’s a clay and limestone deposits. Good for bricks and cement.
Wild rice and freshwater kelp grow along the lake edges. A cluster of fruit-bearing trees… pears, plums, and something that looks like a hybrid citrus.
We also found a small herd of mutated deer. Eudora says they’re non-aggressive and edible with proper treatment. ]
“Ah? Shane was shocked as he read this information…
‘Mutated Deer? Not Zombie Deer?’ Shane checked the message once again, and he couldn’t help but feel surprised.
After all, even the neutral shelters only had horses and cats. There weren’t any deer at all.
‘Wow… This might actually be good…’
However, Sandra’s next message stunned Shane…
[ Sandra: We found a small Neutral Shelter on the other side of the lake… ]
[ Sandra: We haven’t checked the place yet, but we might have to visit it to spend the rest of the night. If there’s any danger, Eudora would let us know. But so far, she didn’t feel any negative vibes on that shelter, so it must be a decent gathering place for survivors. ]
[ Sandra: Anyway, I think this abandoned town has potential. It’s isolated with decent resources nearby. And with the right upgrades, it could support a mid-sized shelter… maybe 2,000 to 3,000 people. ]
[ Sandra: Let me know if you want us to hold position or start prepping the area. We’ve already marked the high ground for a possible Shelter Crystal installation. ]
Shane read through the entire report without skipping.
A half-submerged town with clean water, food sources, and salvage potential. It was risky, but promising. However, he believed that they should check the Neutral Shelter for now.
