Chapter 458: Legion
“What a huge dome.”

“Did a senior from Blackwell House build it here?”

“Of course, only Exalted Rank cultivators and above can have such large mana reserves. Otherwise dozens of Ninth Tier mages will be required to make this.”

“But the mana signature seems consistent in all vines, so high chances are that a single mage built it.”

The students discussed among themselves while arriving inside the mansion. Soon, the discussion grew louder before a student asked the servants of the mansion about who created the dome.

And the servants proudly told them that it was created by Young Noble Orion, making all the students take a breath of cold air.

Their shocked gazes traveled towards Orion as they all saw him standing there without any signs of exhaustion. Because they knew this dome was created just some time ago since there was no such vast dome yesterday evening or in the morning.

Orion looked at everyone with a smile on his face without explaining. This was the effect he wanted to achieve. To awe everyone with his powers.

Though he knew not everyone would believe it while most would think that the servants were lying. But that didn’t matter, all he wanted was to plant a seed in their hearts.

Orion took a step forward seeing the students gathering together, “Everyone, thank you for arriving at my abrupt notice. Let’s wait for 2 more hours for everyone to gather and then we can start this event, until then everyone can spar against each other or try these delicacies we prepared for everyone.”

Saying so, he clapped his hands and the servants of the mansion started to drag tables with high quality food towards the students.

Everyone’s eyes lit up as they saw the high grade food which only high ranking nobles could eat most of the time.

The students didn’t act shy at all and started to eat first before anyone even mentioned sparring.

Orion smiled and chatted with his friends while waiting for students to gather.

After around two hours, everyone gathered on the field, including Garron, Tavian and a few other top ranking students.

They were just chatting among their own circle while waiting for Orion to start the event so they could know what he wanted to gather them for.

Seeing that everyone had gathered and most of the students had come, Orion came in front of everyone and began, “Everyone, thanks for arriving here. I won’t beat around the bush and waste everyone’s time. Today I wanted to talk about the test that the academy gave us.”

Everyone’s ears perked up as this was what they had been waiting for.

Orion continued, “This academy test isn’t as easy as the previous one, and one can even say that it is one of the most dangerous events of our life until now. The demons are cunning and ruthless, they will kill us the first moment they get. And the academy won’t save anyone. If my estimate is right, then half of the students will die during this test.”

He paused, looking at everyone’s frowning faces as they went in deep thought, he continued, “I know everyone is thinking your strength is good and it won’t be you. But remember that even veterans who have been fighting against demons for over a year on this battlefield perish on each demon wave. And quite a few of them are even High ranking cultivators above Tier 6. While most of you are at Tier 5 or 6 only.”

Everyone’s faces darkened slightly as they also knew about it but were trying their best to ignore it, but now Orion shoved the reality right in their faces.

“So, my solution for this is to make a legion. A legion made up of us students at the start to fight against the demons. We can better take care of each other rather than just forming individual small groups and being surrounded to death by demons.”

“If we make a legion, then we can effectively make a solid formation to steadily train ourselves while also keeping us safe. And our main motive will be to keep our casualties as low as possible, because this test won’t end with just one wave or two waves but possibly until a certain number of students are eliminated or the time limit that academy internally decided is reached.”

Pausing here, he took a deep breath and declared, “And for that reason I have decided to form this legion. I will be the Legion Commander with 7 Deputy Commanders under me.”

His club members looked at him strangely as he suddenly decided to change Generals to Deputy Commanders all of a sudden. But they didn’t question him or object and continued to listen to him.

“Among the Seven Deputy Commanders, I have decided 5 of them, which are: Arya, Nyss, Sylvia, Elias, and Kale. Two positions are remaining which will be decided from among the others who will join us.”

Before his words could finish the students erupted in loud chatter as they softly mumbled favoritism and nepotism and other terms.

Orion’s lips twitched as he heard nepotism among the crowd as he inwardly screamed, ‘Nepotism?! Do they look like my children bastards?!’

“Cough,” He slightly coughed and said, “Of course their positions are not yet solid. If any of you can defeat them then you can become the Deputy Commander. I will form seven rings on the ground here. And then seven people will enter including the 5 Deputy Commanders I have decided. Then everyone can challenge them in a one on one duel and if you can manage to win against them then you can become the Deputy Commander.”

Everyone’s eyes brightened as they heard Orion’s words, while some had a strange flicker in their eyes as they eyed Orion.

Seemingly understanding the intent of some people among the crowd, he smiled confidently and declared, “And of course, even the position of Legion Commander is up for grabs. If you can defeat me then you can become the Commander. But only 7 Deputy Commanders have the right to challenge me. So if you want my position then you first need to win the Deputy Commander position.”

After speaking, Orion looked at everyone’s excited expression with a satisfied smile on his face and nodded his head, “Alright we won’t waste any time since we don’t know when the beast wave will arrive and we need a lot of work to do. NOW!! Everyone who wants to join the legion stay, and those who want to act independently can go out of the mansion. No one will stop you. You have 5 minutes to decide.”

The students began to discuss among themselves, clearly this was a major event for them. One that could possibly decide their life and death or even their future path.

Some shrewd individuals among them saw this as an opportunity to ascend the social ladder as if they could form some connection with a Duke House or even directly with Princess Arya then they would be set for life.

Orion just stood at the front with his hands behind his back and waited for everyone’s decision. Seeing that no one had left after 5 minutes passed, he broke out into a satisfied smile, “Good, looks like there is no fool here who likes to seek death. Let’s not waste time then, I will form 7 platforms for battle between everyone.”

Just as he finished saying, he mumbled a spell as dense vines began to grow out of the ground and spiraled in one place before forming 7 large platforms while the students consciously moved towards the side of the walls to leave space at the center for the platforms to manifest.

Orion enhanced the vines with his mana and even infused it with his sword intent to make them tougher so they wouldn’t break with the battles among the students.

While on the other hand, the students marveled at his control over the spell which he could manipulate at will. Some of them finally believed that the dome was created by Orion.

But some students inwardly questioned whether the platforms could withstand the battles between them.

Orion didn’t bother to explain much and quickly finished forming the platforms and softly said, “Now, Deputy Commanders, please get up on the platform. While those of you who think you can become the Deputy Commanders, you can challenge them or take the 6th and 7th ring.”

Arya, Nyss, Sylvia, Kale, and Elias went above the ring and took their positions without saying anything and stood there while watching the crowd with a hint of excitement on their faces.

They also wanted to suppress everyone and make a name for themselves, and this was the perfect opportunity to do exactly that.

While on the last two platforms, Garron and Tavian slowly took their positions and looked at everyone with serious expressions.

The others didn’t go up in fear of exhausting themselves with consecutive battles.
