Chapter 137: You may mark your bride!
Kael.

My heart raced in my chest like the motherfucking traitor it has been for a while now as my brothers and I walked up the aisle in our expensive dark tuxedos amidst the crowd of family members, business associates and friends that had come to celebrate this moment with us.

As we went, my eyes scanned the crowd for any signs of Leilani, but she was nowhere to be found even though Alpha Frostclaw was here. I sighed, looking away as it felt as though a large boulder now settled at the base of my stomach.

And hades, I didn’t know why her absensce affected me so much. I didn’t know why I wanted her to be here so badly.

Maybe I had half expected her to come today and ruin the wedding, forcing my brothers and I to elope with her.

My chest felt tight when we arrived at the alter and in that instant, it felt as though my knees had suddenly gone weak… like my legs could no longer hold the weight of my body anymore.

Zevran then leaned close to me and placed his hand over my shoulder; and while people around would’ve seen that action as endearing, we both knew that this was our way of holding up. Our way of not walking away from this altar… our way of consoling each other for this disaster that was about to unfold.

A few minutes later, the large heavy doors were pushed open and Chalice stepped out looking like something straight out of a movie.

I couldn’t deny the fact that she was beautiful, extremely so; But right now, she wasn’t the woman I wanted to walk down the isle with. She wasn’t the woman who set my blood on fire by a single glance.

She wasn’t my mate.

Her bright smile looked like a special kind of make up on her face. It made her look radiant… beautiful; and while that should have made me feel better, it made my chest tighten even more.

And then she slowly approached us and smiled as she struggled to walk up the last set of stairs leading to the altar.

And goddess, I didn’t go to help her, neither did Zevran.

—Surprisingly, Caelum didn’t either.

She frowned, looked up at us and whispered; “I’m stuck.”

But I still didn’t move, in couldn’t. My brothers didn’t either.

Her face crumpled and she lowered her head in embarrassment only to lift it back up when large arms looped around hers.

It was her father.

He smiled; “Honey, are you experiencing cold feet?”

She shook her head. “No.”

“Then go on!” He continued, “…your husbands are waiting!”

Hearing Beta Malakai say those words made my blood burn with rage. I frowned at him, immediately making a mental note to ask him to step down from from his position soon. At least, his son was more competent compared to him these days—

“Kael?” Zevran whispered and I turned to look at him, my anger peaking when I noticed Chalice standing right before us with her blinding smile.

‘She isn’t the woman I want! She just looks like her!’ I chanted in my head when my eyes fell on her.

But even the goddess knew that it was too late now to make amends, especially since we were already at the altar and Leilani was nowhere to be found.

—

Chalice.

This entire thing felt forced. It was my dream wedding, yes, but it looked like a version sent from the bottomless pit of hell!

Gavin wouldn’t even look or talk to me, and the triplets… goddess, those three were another case entirely.

My chest tightened when I looked up at their faces only to be met with stone— and I mean that literally because there was not a single smile in sight.

Not even on Caelum’s face!

And it was infuriating!

“Miss Chalice Blackthorne, do you take Alphas Kael, Caelum and Zevran Stormborn as your lawfully wedded husbands… In sickness and in health, in troubles and in moments of joy, and until death do you part?” The priest’s voice called out sharply, snapping me out of my reverie and I nodded with a small smile.

“Yes, I do.”

As soon as I said those words, my eyes turned to the crowd and my breath hitched when I saw Louis sitting at the back with a smile across his face. He tipped his head at me and mouthed words that I couldn’t hear or make out so I immediately looked away.

“Alphas Kael, Caelum and Zevran Stormborn, do you take Miss Chalice Blackthorne as your lawfully wedded wife and Luna… In sickness and in health, in troubles and in moments of joy, and until death do you part?” The question was directed at the triplets and my heart stuttered when they didn’t answer right away.

I glanced up at them just then to see them watching me with cold expressionless eyes and I looked away, biting down on my lower lips as my body trembled violently.

Goddess, this cannot be happening… this shouldn’t be happening—!

“Yes, I do.” Caelum answered first.

“Yes, I do,” Kael and Zevran replied in unison, and I… I let out a sigh of relief.

The priest, probably satisfied with their answers, even though delayed, continued; “If anyone here knows of any reason why these people should not be joined in holy matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace!”

And as soon as I heard that, my eyes turned to Louis while the triplets’ glanced at the door as if expecting someone to walk in.

And I knew exactly who that was…

Leilani.

My face fell.

“If anyone here knows of any reason why these people should not be joined in holy matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace!” The priest repeated again and this time, the doors actually burst open, and my heart plummeted when Leilani stepped into the hall, clad in the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen in my life.

The crowd turned to her as she waled in but instead of coming to us, she found herself a chair and sat down, smiling as she crossed her legs and folded her arms across her chest.

Wait, why isn’t she stopping the wedding?

Isn’t she here to do that?

My eyes flashed as I turned to the triplets and to my utmost horror, they looked almost… disappointed.

The priest nodded.

“Very well then, since no one objects, we shall proceed. So to seal this union, Alphas…” he drawled, bowing slightly, “…you may now mark your bride!”

I froze.
