101: The difference in our worlds.

101: The difference in our worlds.

Leilani.

I got a bouquet of roses again.

But this time, it did not just come with a note, it came with a washed up photograph as well.

A photograph which showed a man whose face I’ve never seen before standing beside mom and dad.

In the photo, dad and mom smiled brightly at the camera, and while mom’s head was tipped back, frozen in a laughter that must span decades now, the man had a stoic expression on his face.

He wasn’t mad.

He didn’t look happy either.

In fact, he looked like the last place he wanted to be was there.

A sense of familiarity shot through me at the sight of this man and his light coloured hair, but because the picture was in black and white, I couldn’t fully make out the exact shade of his hair nor all his features.

So I sighed and dropped it.

The note read; ‘One day, it’ll all make sense.’ And while that would’ve riled me up, it didn’t.

So to that effect, I didn’t write back to the stalker today.

I didn’t ask them to leave me alone like I did the last time, and I already knew it wasn’t Chalice due to this attached photo and note; So I did something I personally wouldn’t have done if I wasn’t so desperate: I took pictures of the items and sent them to Jarek.

I also asked for the service of a watchman, and after confirming these things with Jarek, I put down my phone and stretched.

I had decided to work from home today because I still wasn’t in the mood to face Jarek yet.

And no, it wasn’t because I was mad at him.

If I was even mad at anyone, then it had to be me for stupidly falling for him.

-And I hated that I always loved men who were never meant for me.

First it was the triplets, and now, it’s Jarek.

I sighed.

And just then, my phone buzzed.

It was a text from Jarek, it read;    ‘A watchman has been deployed to your house.

He’ll be arriving in a few minutes.

Just so you know, you’re not to have any form of physical contact with him.

I’ll send you his contact info, and you can communicate through that.

Okay?’ I typed back quickly; ‘Okay.’ A few seconds later, I got the contact information of a man named Jack.

But knowing that this probably wasn’t his real name, I decided to save the number as ‘security’ instead and then went back to work.

I finished working at about 3:45pm, and by this time, I was terribly hungry.

I also didn’t have it in me to cook dinner so I quickly cleaned up, changed into a simple dress and called Maya.

“I’m eating out tonight, would you like to join me?” I asked calmly.

On the other end of the call, Maya giggled.

She answered; “Of course, you know I’ll never say no to free food!” “Okay then, I’ll be at your house in a few minutes to pick you up, make sure to be ready by then.”  “Okay mom.

Love you!” She muttered jokingly, and with that, I ended the call.

After checking to see that everything was in order, I picked up my bag.

But just as I made to step out of the house, a head splitting headache lanced through my skull.

I groaned in pain, letting my bag and keys fall to the floor.

“Fuck!

What is this?” I cried out in pain, whilst clutching my head as if that would help with the ache.

Goddess, it didn’t.

Instead, my head felt like it was about to burst and tears stung my eyes from the pain.  My vision soon began to go blurry and I crumpled to the floor, groaning and heaving when the ache in my skull only intensified.

“Somebody help me…” I groaned.

“I can’t bear this anymore.” My eyes fluttered shut, and just when I was already beginning to think that I would pass out from the gut-wrenching pain splitting my head into two, my eyes snapped open.

And suddenly…  I could no longer feel the pain anymore.

A dull throbbing sensation vibrated through the back of my skull but besides that, there was nothing.

I frowned, sitting up and blinked.

“What the fuck?” But as I sat in silence, wondering what the fuck just happened to me, my phone soon buzzed.

I carefully picked it up, squinted at the screen and saw that it was a text from Maya.

‘Don’t cancel on me.’ It read.

And with that, I picked up my keys and bag, marched out of the house and drove like a crazed woman to Maya’s home.  Her family also owned an upscale villa in one of the high end estates around town.

And as soon as I parked at the driveway, Maya rushed out, waving like a maniac with a bright smile plastered across her face.

She was dressed in a black leather dress which was a start contrast to her bright pink hair.

And goddess, she was beautifulllllll!

So beautiful I often wondered why she was friends with a plain Jane like me.

“You made it!” she screamed excitedly.

“For a moment there, I almost thought you were about to disappear on me!” I smiled at her as I got out of the car and while I did, I noticed to my horror that there was still a slight tremor in my hands.

I was obviously still so shaken from what happened earlier; But deciding to push that thought away, I pulled her into a hug instead and whispered; “Something came up.” “Don’t worry, you don’t have to explain anything to me.

As long as you’re here now.

It’s fine.” She said, pinching my cheek.

However, I was just about to return to my car when a deep rich masculine voice called out; “And you must be Leilani?!” For a moment, I glanced around, wondering where the voice came from until Maya chuckled, cupped my face in her hands and tilted my head back so that I was looking up at their balcony.

A small gasp left my lips when a pair of sharp brown eyes belonging to a middle aged- looking man with sandy brown hair with greying edges met mine.

I quickly bowed.

“Good day sir.” “Good day, Leilani…

right?” “Yes, I am Leilani.” I answered quickly.

“And you must be…” “Maya’s father.” He answered with a smile.

I froze and then turned to Maya who still had a smile on her face.

“Don’t worry, you two can go have fun.

I was in a meeting with some friends, but I wanted to finally meet the famous Leilani, and that’s why I’m here.” “Dad, go on!

You’re making my shy friend uncomfortable!” Maya finally said, breaking the ice.

I watched her father wave dismissively at her, the crinkles around his eyes intensifying as he flashed a smile at us.

And while that scene should’ve warmed my heart, it didn’t.

It only reminded me that this was something I never had.

Something I would never have… I smiled at Maya’s dad, bowed once again and whispered to her.

“Can you drive us today?” Maya didn’t ask why.

She didn’t even seem fazed as she quickly rounded the car and went over to the driver’s seat.

She then opened the door to the passenger’s side for me and I got in, flashing her a grateful smile.

“Today has just been a lot.” I whispered, “My hands are shaking.” “You do not have to explain anything to me, Lani,” she drawled.

“Even if you want me to drive because you simply want to be my passenger princess, I’d do it.

Okay?” “Okay.” I murmured, lowering my head as a sudden warmth bloomed in my chest.

The drive to the restaurant was not a quiet one because as we all know, Maya is a chatterbox.

We arrive there in high spirits, our chuckles floating around us like veils.

But as soon as we were directed to our chairs and sat down, the smile on Maya’s face instantly vanished.

She snorted; “And look who we have here!” I frowned.  It was strange to see that the usually easy going Maya would look so annoyed by someone’s presence, so in curiosity, I turned around to see who she was l glaring at, only to frown instantly when my eyes met Chalice’s.

But she was not alone.

She was with the triplets.

My blood instantly went cold.

CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Ahvahh_ This is a note from me, the author, to you, asking that if you come across any grammatical errors or typos, that you correct me- with love or anything.

I take corrections well.

And I can hardly avoid it, seeing as I write with a phone most times.

Thank you!
