Chapter 261: New home.
*~Leon’s POV~*

“So… do I look manly enough now?” she asked, spinning around in her oversized clothes.

“Yes, you look manly enough, Harara,” I said as we walked out of the store. I finished paying the store owner and caught up to her.

“Well, we need to do something about my name. If I want to identify as a man, then I must have a man’s name.” She placed her hands on her hips. “So what kind of name would you want me to have, husband?”

I thought for a moment. “How about… Eric?”

“Eric?” She blinked. “Do I look like an Eric?”

I looked her up and down—oversized jacket, short hair, the tiniest frame ever. She definitely looked like a feminine, confused little man.

“Yes,” I said. “You look like an Eric.”

“Okay then, if you say so, husband.” She breathed.

“You need to stop calling me that.” I quickly said turning around to see if the store owner heard that.

“Why? You are my husband. Why would I stop calling you husband?” She asked confused to the core.

“Because it’s weird. Why would a man call another man husband?” I shook my head

She paused… then slowly nodded. “Oh. That makes sense.”

She spun around again. “I need to start doing basic man stuff. If I want to be a man, I must act like a man. And I’m just a little girl.”

“How old are you?” I asked.

“I’m seven,” she said with a straight face.

I blinked. “Seven? Aurora—you are nineteen. You are NOT seven.”

She frowned. “But the last birthday I remember… I was seven.”

“Something happened,” I said gently. “But you’re nineteen. My wife is nineteen.”

“What happened to my memories?” she asked, confused.

I scratched my head. “Let’s just say… you lost them. And you’ll get them back soon.”

“Actually…” she mumbled, “…maybe I don’t want them back. I don’t know why, but something doesn’t feel right whenever I imagine remembering anything.”

A knot twisted in my stomach. She really didn’t want her old memories.

She really wanted a fresh start.

“Well… you don’t need to force anything,” I said softly. “You can live your life as Eric.”

She nodded firmly. “So what’s the first basic thing about being a man? What do I need to know?”

“Being a man is tough, Eric. Being a man means a lot. And you have the brain of a seven-year-old girl, so I don’t believe you can actually be a man.”

“Oh! That’s an insult!” She smacked my shoulder. “I’m strong enough to be a man! I’m sure of it. What is so hard about being a man? Is it carrying swords? Because I can carry a sword—watch!”

She rushed toward a nearby sword stand. The moment she lifted one of the swords, it dropped her straight to the ground with its weight.

I bit my tongue to stop myself from laughing. “Yes… I see how well you’re handling the whole ‘man’ thing.”

“Well—maybe I can’t hold a sword,” she grumbled, “but I can ride a horse! I’ve seen men ride horses!”

My eyes widened. “Eric, don’t—”

But I was too late.

She spotted a horse tied to a post and sprinted for it. Before I could reach her, she freed the horse. The moment she mounted it, the horse went wild, bucking aggressively.

She flew off and landed hard on her back.

I rushed to her and grabbed her shoulders. “You can’t run around acting crazy! You’re undercover—do you understand? You’re not supposed to be here at all. And now you’re causing trouble.”

“I’m sorry, husb—” she said as I suddenly cut her off.

“Don’t call me that publicly,” I hissed, as wolves began to crowd around us, whispering and glaring.

“All hail the Alpha!,” someone said.

One wolf howled—loud and sharp—and the crowd parted instantly, creating a clear path as another wolf approached.

Aurora pushed through the crowd to see the person properly.

“Oh my God! Come and look at the Alpha!” she squealed, dragging me with her.

I peeked as well and saw a tall, powerful man with silver hair and bright yellow eyes charging through the crowd with wolves behind him. He walked past confidently—until Aurora stepped directly into his path.

I immediately yanked her away before she got herself killed. The Alpha halted, stopping right in front of her. My stomach twisted.

Oh God. If he realizes she’s not a wolf, this will be bad. Very bad.

“Hi! I’m Eric!” Aurora said immediately, chin raised proudly.

The Alpha’s gaze swept over her. “You don’t look like a wolf from this pack.”

“That’s because I’m not a wolf. I’m a man. A normal man—”

I slapped my hand over her mouth before she finished burying us alive.

“I’m so sorry,” I said quickly. “My friend here—his name is Eric. He’s a human. My human friend.”

The Alpha raised a brow. “A human befriending a wolf. Interesting bond.” He stepped closer. “Which pack are you from? You’re clearly not Riverdale wolves.”

“I… don’t actually have a pack,” I muttered, scratching my head. I couldn’t say New Orleans—if they sent us back, we were dead.

“So you’re a rogue,” the Alpha concluded.

“Yes,” I said.

“That explains why your friend is human.” He nodded at both of us. “Welcome to Riverdale Park. We accept everyone. And for our visitors, we grant free housing in the White House. Also—there is a ball ceremony tonight. You are both invited.”

He turned to one of his wolves, gave a short instruction, and walked off.

A wolf guard approached us and handed me a scroll.

“That is your invitation. You may use it to enter the High House—show it to the guards and they’ll let you through.”

I nodded, and he walked away.

Aurora shrieked the moment the crowd began disbanding.

“Oh my God! Look at this! We’re going to a ball!” She spun around, practically glowing. “This park is so nice! I told you this was a good idea—not going back into that evil forest and those cute creatures’ hands.”

“Cute?” I muttered. “Yeah… right.”

I started walking, dragging her along before she got carried away again.

“So what are we wearing to the ball?” she asked, already excited. “Am I going to wear a gown? Or oversized clothes again? I’d look so good in a gown but I can’t—because I’m Eric—so maybe something manly—”

“Eric, please,” I sighed. “Men don’t talk this much.”

“What?” She blinked. “Yes we do.”

“No. Men talk a little. If you don’t want to get caught, you need to talk less and act reserved.”

“Hmmm…” She tapped her chin. “I can’t do that. I’m a very expressive person!”

She smiled, absolutely unbothered.

My heart melted.

This was the Aurora I never got to see. When I met her years ago, she had buried this part of herself—buried her softness, her innocence, her brightness. She had been scared, hurt, hardened. And I… I failed to protect that version of her.

But now? I would never let her lose this again.

We finally stopped in front of a small, abandoned-looking hut.

“Well,” I said. “We found our home.”
