Chapter 237: Smart babies
*~Aurora’s POV~*
I settled myself and calmed my breathe and adjusted my gown.
“Hazel, and the others are outside,” he said quickly. “They didn’t believe me when I said you were here. Come on—we need to go, now!”
He grabbed my hand and reached for the basket.
“What—Leon, wait!” I snapped, pulling back. “You can’t just walk out of here! They’ll be back any minute. We can’t escape, do you even know where we are? This place is fueled by magic,”
“You’re a witch you can break whatever spell they’ve cast here. Let’s go, right now.” He pulled my arm.
Then I heard the demon lord footstep approaching.
“Someone’s here,” I whispered. “He just went to get something.”
“Then we’d better move before he comes back,” Leon urged.
“No, you don’t get it!” I whispered sharply. “Why are you always this stubborn, Leon? You wouldn’t even be in this mess if you’d just listened to me before”
Footsteps… becoming more and more closer.
I gasped and immediately pressed my hand over Leon’s mouth. His eyes widened in surprise—and that’s when I realized how close we were. We hadn’t been this close since the …… incident
I tore my hand away and gestured for him to hide. He nodded and slipped behind the huge wardrobe, crouching into the shadows.
The demon entered. His sharp gaze swept across the room.
“Something feels… strange,” he muttered. “Is someone here?”
“No,” I said quickly, forcing calm into my voice.
He stepped closer to Heather’s basket. Christian was standing protectively beside her, his small hands clenched.
“How did he—?” the demon frowned.
“He teleported,” I said quietly. “You didn’t really think you could take one twin without the other showing up, did you? You said it yourself—they’re incredibly powerful. You made a mistake bringing one of them here.”
“Well,” the demon murmured, crouching near Christian, “does he know that once he’s here, he can never leave?”
“As long as it’s for his sister, he’ll stay,” I said, my voice firm. “And I’ll stay too. Nothing will happen to them while I’m here.”
He straightened up, smirking. “I doubt you’ll be able to protect them if danger comes. But there’s no harm for now. Since Heather’s brother is here to take care of her, I suppose that’s for the best. She won’t cry—with her sweet little brother around.”
He gave me a strange, tight smile and handed me a bottle. “Here. Milk. But I only brought one. I’ll grab another to—dissolve their hunger, shall we say.”
He turned toward the door—but froze.
He was standing right in front of the wardrobe.
“I thought you said,” he murmured, voice low and dangerous, “that there was no one else here.”
“What are you saying?” I stammered. “There’s no one here! You must be hallucinating.”
His gaze burned with fury as he lunged toward me.
Before I could move, he grabbed my head and slammed it against the wall—so hard the wall cracked. Blood spilled from my mouth, my knees buckling beneath me. My bones felt like they were melting. I had never taken a hit like that before.
I glared up at him through the pain, blood on my lips. “Don’t you know how to treat a woman?” I hissed. “Who throws a woman against a wall like that?”
He raised his hand again, ready to strike—
—but then Leon exploded out of the wardrobe.
He moved faster than I’d ever seen him move. His fist connected squarely with the demon’s jaw, sending the creature flying across the room. The wall shattered completely this time, a rain of broken plaster falling around us.
Leon’s eyes burned with rage as he turned to me. “Are you alright?” he said, grabbing my face, his thumb brushing against my bleeding lips.
I pushed his hand away. “I’m fine,” I whispered hoarsely. “The babies—”
He nodded and reached toward the basket—
—but the demon lord was already standing.
His face was… cracking. Like stone breaking apart. No human face should look like that. It was horrifying—lines of darkness split across his cheeks, his cold blue eyes glowing through the fractures.
“Oh,” he said, voice dripping with mock delight, “your lover came to your rescue. How touching. But I thought you two were separated now… weren’t you?”
Leon moved closer to me, shielding the basket with his body. I crouched beside the twins, ready to protect them.
“Do you often bring other visitors here?” the demon lord taunted. “I love welcoming guests.”
“Yes,” I snapped. “This house is surrounded. You might as well give up and let us go—now!”
He smirked, unbothered. “Oh, the more, the merrier. I’ll tell my demons to prepare a feast.” He tilted his head, eyes gleaming. “What should we serve first? Werewolf heads? Or perhaps… their insignias?”
“You will not dare say another word, you bastard!” Leon roared. “How dare you enter the High House, kidnap the babies, and take Aurora—the Unborn Attempt!”
“Oh, that wasn’t me,” the demon lord said casually. “Didn’t she tell you? It was Darius. I never asked him to bring her—he simply did. Perhaps Darius has… a soft spot for this cute little red-eyed witch.”
My stomach twisted. So Darius wasn’t supposed to bring me—only Heather. Then why did he?
Leon’s grip tightened around my hand.
But the demon smirked. “You should warn your little wolf to back off. Because if he doesn’t…” His voice darkened. “Well, I heard you dumped her for some stupid wolf. Didn’t you, boy? Do you even realize how beautiful—and valuable—this woman next to you is?”
He laughed coldly. “You traded a witch who can wield dark magic… for nothing. Such a fool.”
“Shut up,” Leon growled.
“Oh, but the good thing is—you can’t have her now,” the demon continued, his grin widening. “You’re already mated. Darius will bring her into our family. Together, they’ll make beautiful children… powerful ones. Their offspring will surpass even me.”
Leon snapped.
He charged, his fist glowing blue with power—but the demon lord caught it mid-swing. There was a sickening crack—and Leon screamed as his fingers twisted unnaturally.
“Versa!” I shouted, throwing my hand out to cast a counterspell—
—but the demon blocked it with a single flick of his wrist.
Then, before I could move—he grabbed Leon by the throat, twisted—
Snap.
Leon’s body fell limp to the floor. A cry fell from my mouth.
The air shifted the walls trembled. The room grew hotter, pulsing with fury as the demon turned toward me, his rage now fully unleashed.
I spun toward the twins. “Go!” I cried.
And as if they understood, Heather and Christian vanished…teleporting away in a moment.
“Heather—NO!” the demon roared, his voice shaking the entire room.
