Chapter 233: Dark magic
*~Aurora’s POV~*

My vision was blurry as an insane headache pounded in my skull. I tried to look around, but my eyes couldn’t focus — everything spun, shapes fading in and out like mist.

What do I even remember? Nothing.

Oh …. the only thing I remember was me… pulling Darius’s hair.

I’d entered the room, then there was a flash of light — and everything after that was gone.

Am I still intact?

I ran my hands over myself. My body still ached, but everything seemed… normal. I still felt pain in my arms, but nothing else. No wounds. No broken bones. Just pain.

What happened to me?

When my sight finally steadied, I noticed a small basket beside me. I blinked and leaned closer.

A baby.

A sleeping baby.

“Heather!” I gasped, my heart pounding in my chest as I recognized her tiny face.

What was Heather doing here? Where was Hazel? And Cayden?

I looked around again, but there was no one. Just me — in a dusty old room filled with silence.

Oh my gods.

My heartbeat thundered in my ears as panic started to build.

I tried to take a deep breath, to think, but then Leon’s voice echoed faintly in my head. “You shouldn’t go in there. He’s a white-haired demon.”

My breath hitched. Oh my gods… was he right?

Was Darius really a demon?

I turned back to the cradle, staring at Heather’s sleeping face. Thank the goddess she was safe — still breathing, still peaceful.

But if Leon was right, then what was she doing here?

Demons. That would explain everything.

Demons… Heather… Darius. I connected the dots myself.

But how? How could he have entered the High House and taken both me and Heather without anyone noticing?

I remembered entering the room with him. There was no baby then.

So how did he get Heather? How did he take me out of the High House without being stopped?

And then the memory still slowly returning to me.

I remembered leon trying to stop me…yelling, warning — and me using my powers to pin him against the wall, cracking his bones like brittle twigs.

I ran my fingers through my hair, guilt sinking in.

“Oh no… I shouldn’t have…” But I couldn’t bring myself to fully blame it on me.

Coming from Leon — who would’ve believed him? He’s a pathological liar.

Anger flared in my chest again, but I forced it down. This wasn’t the time.

Right now, I needed to figure out where I was and how to get Heather and myself out of here.

I managed to get on my feet. My back was hurting like I was a grandma. I walked over to her and gently carried her against my chest without waking her. She purred a little.

oh, who will separate this sweet little girl from her mother. I’m sure if she wakes up, she’ll be hungry and start yelling like crazy. I gazed around and then saw a door. I started walking toward it, and as I was about to turn the doorknob, the door suddenly opened. I jumped back a little as a white-haired lady entered the room.

I tensed. It was the same lady who sang the song that killed the wolves the other day. I quickly averted my gaze to avoid eye contact, in case her spells worked through the eyes. I knew enough to be cautious.

“Oh, you’re awake! Guys, she’s awake!” she called, then turned her head and immediately increased the distance between us.

“What are you? And why did you bring me here?” I demanded.

“Wow, he was right. You’re such a beauty. But I know your powers are even more beautiful,” she purred, walking closer to me. I stretched out my hand and moved back.

“I’ll tear you into pieces,” I said, and she laughed.

“Oh, I know. I know how much power you hold inside you, Aurora. You’re the only witch Dahlia trained who actually became like her—maybe even more powerful. Dark magic runs through your veins; I can see it,” she said, gazing at my hand.

I looked at my hand but saw nothing. Dark magic? How does she know I can control dark magic?

“What are you saying?” I asked.

“You know, like you said—or like you claimed we are demons. And we demons don’t cast spells like witches or have natural raw strength like wolves. You could say our power is dark magic,” she whispered, and my eyes widened.

Dark magic. So there are creatures that naturally wield dark magic without consequences. I took a step back. God damn it. No wonder she managed to kill people just by singing. Dark magic is an insane amount of power to hold.

“Oh, don’t be scared of me. I should be scared of you,” she said with a smile. “Witches cast spells naturally, but they don’t use dark magic. Dahlia was the first to break the barrier between magic and dark magic. But she sold her soul to it so she could wield it. That’s why she’s cursed—and why she never truly died.”

Sweat dripped down my forehead. She never truly died?

So… is Dahlia still alive somewhere? I shook the thought away immediately.

“And you,” the woman continued, “you also broke the barriers. But you only used it a few times. You didn’t even sell your soul to dark magic, yet you command it naturally, like it belongs to you. Even I, born with the ability to wield it, don’t control it like you do. I must say, your powers are really impressive.”

“Are you just here to praise me?” I asked sharply. “Look, I need to get out of here right now. She’s a baby.” I pointed to Heather. “She needs to be with her mom.”

“Oh, she will be. And for some reason, the demon lord wants that little girl in your hands.”

“What? What kind of creep wants a baby who isn’t even a year old?”

“Apparently, he’s a creep. I’ll give you that,” she said with a shrug. “But don’t worry—it’s not what you think. Nothing like that. He just believes that little girl is something…. I don’t care. But don’t worry—we’re not going to harm her. And neither will you, unless you threaten to use your powers on us. Then I’ll be forced to use mine on you.”

I gritted my teeth. “You just said I’m more powerful than you. You might want to control your tongue,” I said.

She smirked. “Oh, so Darius was right. You are one hell of a redhead witch.”

“Don’t mess with me. If you don’t release me right now, I have different creatures—who will rush down here and tear you and your damn demons apart if you don’t let me go.”
