Chapter 231: White haired demons
*~Leon’s POV~*

The meeting had been dismissed.

I watched Aurora leave, that man trailing behind her like a loyal puppy.

Yeah, sure, I’m happy she’s found someone from her own kind — a wizard, no less. They can be together for all I care. But there’s just something about him that reeks.

The way Aurora suddenly let him into her life overnight — it’s not like her. She doesn’t just open up to anyone. I know how long it took before we even became friends. How long it took before I could so much as touch her bare skin without her flinching.

But him? He made it look easy.

Or maybe it’s because they share the same bloodline. Witch and wizard. Same magic, same species — though, that shouldn’t matter. It shouldn’t make her trust him that fast.

I tried to shake off the thought. “Whatever,” I muttered under my breath. “Let her be.”

I decided to go see Sophia, my wife. That’s what I do now whenever I start thinking too much about Aurora — I go to her. Maybe if I spend enough time with Sophia, she’ll cloud my thoughts, make me forget Aurora completely. Maybe I’ll fall for her the way I once fell for Aurora.

But before I knew it, my feet had taken me somewhere else.

Aurora’s training ground.

My body had memorized the path. It’s like my mind was programmed to check on her every time I walked this way — to see if she was there, training,.

I saw her.

She was training again. Her hair sticking to her neck, sweat tracing down her face, her movements sharp, effortless, beautiful. For a second, I forgot I was supposed to move on.

Then I noticed she wasn’t alone.

That man…Darius… stood with her.

Of course. She was training him. That’s all, right?

But something about him felt off. His energy… it wasn’t that of a beginner. He was almost as strong as Aurora. So why was she training him when their power levels were nearly equal?

Then suddenly, he tripped and broke his arm.

I shouldn’t have enjoyed that. But I did anyways.

And then she bent down to him, worry all over her face.

He reached up and pinched her cheek.

My heart flared like fire. I clenched my fists so tightly I could feel my nails digging into my palms.

What the hell? What the actual hell? Why would you touch her?

And why would Aurora let him?

I was this close to storming down there and ripping his hand off when she helped him up.

She wrapped his arm around her shoulders, supporting him, and he gripped her shoulder in return, holding her close.

Damn it.

At this point, he wasn’t even pretending anymore. He was touching her, and she didn’t even realize it.

Hot emotions roared through my veins. My heart was pounding so hard it hurt. I wanted to rush down there and pull them apart — but I forced myself to stop. To wait.

Just wait.

Then she took him inside the High House.

And I followed.

As he walked, the back of his hair… just for a second… turned white.

He glanced around to make sure no one had seen. But when his blue eyes met mine, he smirked.

White hair. Blue eyes. Gorgeous.

Caspian’s voice in my head. That was how Aurora described them.

And that’s exactly what I’d just seen.

That man…Darius. He looked exactly like that.

Was he one of them? Was he in disguise?

The woman from earlier—the one who claimed to have seen them—had died right in front of us. What if she was telling the truth? What if they silenced her before she could reveal more?

And now… what if they’d sent him to do the same—to kill Aurora?

No. No, no, no.

The thought of him harming her snapped something in me.

I rushed toward her just as she helped him through the hall, his arm slung over her shoulders. “Please—” I started, but she ignored me, guiding him into her room.

When she finally stepped out and shut the door behind her, I told her everything—what I’d seen, what I suspected.

She stared at me, eyes sharp with disbelief. “Are you stupid? How could you accuse him—a witch—of being one of those things you saw? He looks nothing like them!”

“He looks exactly like them!” I snapped. “He has white hair, blue eyes, that same cursed beauty. And he’s always around you. Don’t you think that’s strange? You think all of this is coincidence? Maybe he’s here to do the same thing that happened to that woman today.”

Her jaw tightened. “No, Leon. Please—no. I’m exhausted already. You’ve exhausted me. Because of you, the entire Nelaya Pack doesn’t believe me. You’ve mentally drained me. Just—leave me alone.”

“No, Aurora—your life’s in danger!”

“My life is not in danger. And even if it is, stay out of it! You have a wife now. You have a pack. You have better things to do than obsessing over me.”

“I’m not obsessing over you!” I shouted. “You have no idea what’s inside that room. That man is a demon—he’s going to kill you!”

“Where is all of this coming from?” she demanded, voice trembling.

“It’s coming from the fact that I want to protect you!”

“Then don’t!” she cried, stepping back. “I don’t need your protection! I can protect myself. I am Aurora. Nobody’s ever protected me before—and nobody ever will. I’ll always protect myself.”

“You need protection this time,” I said through clenched teeth. “That man in there has already charmed his way into your heart.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Are you jealous, Leon?”

“I’m not jealous, Aurora,” I snapped. “I will never be jealous. I have my wife. And I want you to have your own man—but that man in there isn’t the one for you.”

“And why should I believe you,” she hissed, “when everything that comes out of your mouth is a lie?”

“I’m telling the truth this time.”

“The truth?” she spat bitterly. “Your entire existence to me is a lie. You told me you loved me—over and over again. You swore we’d spend our lives together. And then you stood in front of the entire pack and called it child’s play. This morning, you said we were just childhood friends. So tell me, Leon—why should I believe anything you say?”

Her voice broke on the last word. “Please… just let me be. I don’t ever want to see you again.”

She turned, but I caught her wrist, holding tight.

“If you think I’m going to let you walk back into that room,” I said darkly, “then you’re mistaken.”
