Chapter 288: In The Miracle City, Levina. Part-3.
*Well, those people were shocked and angry at the same time; their efforts went down the drain and they had already destroyed the fairy race so they couldn’t even vent their anger on anyone…*
‘Serves them right… sigh, what a failure…’
Jareth shook his head and didn’t bother delving into the matter too much.
“So, what’s the actual treasure told in the legends then? There’s no way people would have gone so crazy just for a random treasure that no one even knew if it existed or not, right?”
*According to the legends, the great treasure is some lost object that can grant you immense knowledge and wisdom; it’s said to be able to give a person the power to see the truth of the world…*
*It’s basically said to be capable of making a person omniscient and comparable to an all-knowing sage or something like that… this legend was passed down by word of mouth among fairies so there’s no solid records of it anywhere…*
“That sounds like a very powerful item… but there’s no way that something can just make you omniscient and all-knowing like that; this story is clearly made up and has no actual value…”
In his past life, Jareth himself has done similar shady things like this; at times he has even swindled people using such cheap tricks.
Only dumb people fall for such obvious traps; intelligent folks don’t bother with them and just walk away.
Jareth could only shake his head at the foolishness of those people who even believed this legend in the first place.
“By the way, where can we find the ‘Spirit Realm Node Detection Artifact’?”
*W-what!? How do you know about that!? That’s the greatest hidden treasure of the fairy race! How come a human knows about it!?*
*Only the fairy king of each generation is qualified to know about its existence! The rest of the world does not even know of its name!*
Rororon was so shocked by Jareth’s words that he spilled all the beans on his own, causing Jareth to smirk in victory.
“Hehe, You finally revealed the truth… I was already suspicious of your identity, and how you knew so much about the fairies. no wonder…”
“As you yourself said, only the Fairy King of each generation is qualified to know about this artifact, so tell me, how do you know about it, in fact?”
“You are the last Fairy King of the fairy race, aren’t you, Rororon?”
The fairy race had no hierarchies, and thus they had no such things as royal family surnames or something like that.
But when the evil spirit told Jareth his name was ‘Rororon,’ Jareth already became suspicious, as that name was closely linked to ‘king’ and ‘ruler’ in certain languages.
Jareth did not have the habit of keeping the meaning of various names in his mind, but he had been researching various history books for the past year or so, and he seemed to have read about this name somewhere.
That was not the only suspicious thing; Rororon was keeping his ‘sanity’ intact even though he was an ‘evil spirit’ corrupted with miasma and corruption.
That could only happen in one scenario, and that is the person who’s being corrupted has a very pure soul and has an affinity with light elementals, making his soul very resistant to miasma.
In this kind of situation, the person can keep his sanity intact for a long time, and only his body will show corruption, while his soul will remain safe for a very long time to come.
Rororon’s soul is likely getting affected by miasma after so many years of corruption, but he’s still okay, which means that his miasma resistance is very high.
“I can kind of understand why your nation fell now… if the king of a nation is as naïve as you, then that nation is bound to fall…”
*You!… no… you are in fact right… I was very naïve back then and even now I still can’t reach the final decision…*
*Fairies are inherently very kind and benevolent… they are similar to elves in that aspect, but unlike elves, we are very weak physically and our only good point is that we are good with elements…*
In the past there were many fairies that were good at the healing magic due to their high affinities with nature and wood magic.
There were all kinds of elemental fairies, and they were all good at helping others.
Humans and other intelligent beings across the world once used to come to ‘Levina’ to get treatment for incurable diseases or life-threatening injuries.
Levina was once a place that saved many lives, and people considered this grace of fairies a miracle.
This was the main reason why the city of Levina was called the city of miracles, as it could save the lives of thousands of suffering people.
Its destruction caused tremendous damage to the entire world, and the setback was so bad that humans had to erase most of the history of the fairy race from the records.
Rororon was the last fairy king who saw it all happen in front of his eyes; he was strong and talented.
He had a level of talent similar to Zion, and he could have reached the same level as Zion or Luche at some point, but he was stuck in a dilemma.
*I was naïve… I always believed in people’s kindness. I believed that humans will stop at some point, that it was not a good thing to wage wars, and that fighting would only create more misery for everyone…*
*By the time I realized the true nature of humans, it was too late… I was always unfit to be a king… A king needs to be ruthless and domineering, but I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t even bring the resolve to kill an animal, let alone a human…*
Rororon was no different than other fairies; he had only learned healing magic or weak magic that can only be used for helping others.
In his entire life, he never tried to be stronger and learn offensive magic that could harm others, and when the time arrived when he needed offensive magic, he could only stand and watch his people die.
There was nothing he could do but flee.
*Look at the irony; I could only flee for a bit and in the end got caught by miasma… became an eternal sl*ve to miasmic corruption as it spread through my entire body…*
*I am just a pathetic remnant of that long-forgotten past… the punishment for not protecting my nation is that I am forced to live in this eternally rotting body while lamenting the past over and over… I can’t even die on my own…*
Jareth sighed at Rororon’s sadness-filled voice and kept flying towards the distant tower with a solemn look on his face.
“I see… I kind of already guessed most of it from your previous statements… but your really were a moron of a king…”
“Forget it… It’s pointless to blame you for this matter; fairies are inherently like this. if they weren’t, they won’t be fairies anymore…”
“Those humans were the real piece of sh*t though… despite the fact that they were receiving life-saving healing, they still did something like this…”
Imagine a situation where ‘a doctor saves you from fatal injuries, and after getting healthy, instead of thanking him, you smash down the entire hospital instead.’
This is exactly what those folks did.
