Chapter 279: The cause of the Bizarreness…
‘But if these wyverns have already been brainwashed by the members of the false dome cult… where are those cultists?’
Jareth could not find them anywhere, even with his mana detection working at full capacity.
Unless it’s someone with a legendary technique like him or someone way too strong, it’s near impossible to fool Jareth’s mana detection.
Which means either those cultists have already left, or they never came here, and this brainwashing wasn’t done by them.
‘I am more inclined to believe the former scenario though… I don’t understand why these cultists left, though. Didn’t they come here to control the wyverns in the first place?’
Jareth shook his head and flew around the area, examining every nook and cranny to find clues, but he couldn’t find anything that could be used as proof of the presence of those cultists.
‘Did they fall in the deep valley?’
After searching for a long time with no breakthroughs, only that dark and deep valley was left.
‘I instinctively feel that going down there might be a bad idea…’
Jareth’s instincts have always been sharp; even in his past life, he managed to survive in that shady company due to his outstanding survival instincts.
‘Forget it… I can’t stay here for long anyway; I need to move forward…’
Jareth flew back upwards and arrived near the mindless wyvern swarm again.
‘If I can’t find what’s going on with them, there’s only one way to deal with these wyverns…’
[Grade-2 Fire Magic: Overload: Embrace of the Sun!]
Jareth raised his arm towards the sky and summoned his grimoire, which amplified the effects of his magic and improved the power of his spells.
A massive amount of mana flowed out of Jareth’s body and formed a giant magic circle in the sky above him
The temperature of the entire valley started increasing, and even the dark miasmic clouds started to recede backwards from the sheer might of that spell.
A gigantic ball of flames condensed with dense fire elementals started to form.
Jareth brought out some low-grade fire crystals from his space ring and threw them in the magic circle to enrich the fire elementals.
He only had five high-grade fire crystals, which he had already used; thus, he had no other choice but to use these weaker crystals now.
There are fire elementals in the air too, but they are heavily suppressed by miasma, so he can’t rely too much on them.
*BOOOOM!!!!*
The ball of fire exploded, and a gigantic shockwave spread in every direction.
The explosion was so powerful that the entire tribe of wyverns, which was wandering around among the spear-shaped mountains, was completely evaporated in a matter of milliseconds!
Even those mountaintops were leveled down and burned to the point that the stone and debris turned into molten lava in a matter of a few milliseconds.
Huge amounts of debris and rubble fell down into the deep valley.
As Jareth’s powerful flame magic had caused the miasma in the area to weaken for a few milliseconds, Jareth got to see what was in the deep valley when those huge chunks of debris fell down and pierced the clouds.
‘What the!? Urk…’
Jareth felt nauseous and uncomfortable after seeing the reality of the place below the dark miasmic clouds.
‘I feel like I might vomit…’
[Basic Magic: Rational Mind!]
Jareth had to recast his rational mind spell, as the previous one’s effects got corroded in an instant after seeing that ‘thing’ below.
What Jareth saw was a massive blob of rotting mass; it was a gigantic moss-like creature, just that it was made of meat blobs interconnected with each other.
There were massive brains hanging around it, and hundreds of massive bleeding eyes were all over that body of horror.
That thing was emitting powerful mental waves, and just looking at it caused some degree of mental damage to Jareth.
Thankfully he already had several mental barriers prepared beforehand, and there was also the ‘rational mind’ spell, which prevented him from going mad and insane on the spot.
‘That’s almost at the level of Konda or something… just that Konda was capable of moving and wreaking havoc; this thing, on the other hand, is planted in one place…’
Konda could put massive debuffs on others just with its powerful presence; the same seemed to be true with this bizarre organism.
It had slimy tentacles the size of skyscrapers waving around, and they were all emitting powerful psychic waves.
Jareth didn’t notice those psychic waves before because those thick clouds of miasma were blocking them.
But the moment that massive number of debris fell down, those psychic waves crashed with Jareth’s mana shield and bombarded his mental barriers at the same moment.
Thankfully the miasmic clouds covered the area again in just a second or two; otherwise Jareth would have had to use tremendous amounts of mana to withstand that constant bombarding psychic wave.
‘To think there was something like this existing here… I… I really know too little about this world…’
Jareth always thought that there was no one or nothing stronger than the three endgame bosses inside the false dome barrier.
There are demon gods outside the false dome barrier, but they are outside and can’t really influence the inside world that much.
Only Zion and the other two are capable of wiping out everyone on their own from the inside.
Jareth never even expected that there might be someone else or something else in this world at the same level as those three.
‘No wonder my instincts were telling me to back off… no wonder the wyvern tribe was behaving like that…’
With such powerful psychic capabilities, it’s easy to brainwash most creatures in this world, let alone the wyverns that were already in an unstable state.
‘Well, there is some good news in this matter too… if this creature was the cause of the problem with wyverns, then it means the false dome cult hasn’t come here as of yet…’
One of the main reasons why Jareth came here is to protect the golden nail from the false dome cult members, and if they haven’t come here yet, then it’s a great opportunity for Jareth.
‘Every golden nail is sealing ‘something’ or ‘someone’ inside it… don’t tell me that this golden nail located in the ‘wailing hills’ area is actually sealing this bizarre creature?’
The golden nail in the abyss altar area was sealing ‘Konda,’ and the golden nail in the elven capital was sealing a miasmic rift; there’s a high chance that the golden nail here is also sealing something catastrophic.
‘Whatever this creature is, if it’s being sealed by the golden nail is thus restricted to this area, I must protect that golden nail no matter what!’
‘I don’t want another headache like Konda to appear!’
With a newfound determination, Jareth flew upwards and shot toward the opposite direction of the plateau he had arrived from.
‘I need to reach that golden nail before the false dome cult…’
In the game, the wyverns were not brainwashed; however, a change may have occurred due to a butterfly effect, allowing this sealed being to influence reality and cause the bizarre changes in the wyvern tribe.
There is no time to take a risk; it’s better to just go and fix whatever change or gap the butterfly effect has done.
