Chapter 276: The True Face of the ‘Wailing Hills’. Part-3.
*No no no!! Why are these… why are the giants who should be sleeping peacefully for eternity in a situation like this… What is going on here!?*
Jareth didn’t have the luxury to focus on Rororon’s words, but his question did raise his interest.
“What do you mean by that? Aren’t these skeletons artificially crafted by miasma with the help of the lingering hatred of the dead fairies and spirits?”
“I can sense powerful miasmic corruption from them… What are you trying to say?”
Hearing Jareth’s question, Rororon seemed to hesitate a bit before replying.
*I-its… The thing is, there was a race of giant humanoid beings living near the entrance of the fairy empire and they used to guard the entrance to the fairy empire…*
*The humans slaughtered them to make their way in… this place became their eternal graveyard… their final resting spot for eternity…*
*I never thought that their skeletons would still be remaining intact and fall in the control of evil…*
“Hoh, there was actually another unfortunate race that fell victim to humans… really, the more history I learn, the more I find humans villainous and bad…”
Jareth could only shake his head at those words.
Humans are inherently ambitious and tend to use violence against those they consider ‘different’ than them.
It’s in their DNA to conquer new lands and increase their might in the world.
Many races aim to do that, and there’s nothing wrong about it, as that’s the ultimate goal of every ambitious race.
Having ambitions is the main force that drives people forward in life; without ambitions and dreams, a person is just surviving with no purpose in life to aim for.
But still, it’s cruel that so many intelligent races have been wiped out by humans in this world.
“You are a weird evil spirit. You are saying they have fallen under the control of evil… when you yourself are affected by miasma and evil!”
While enduring the constant swarms of giant skeletons rushing at him, Jareth kept walking forward at a fast pace and questioned Rororon in a confused tone.
*That… I am different than those who end up falling under the control of miasma; I am different that those evil spirits. they are just lowly beings…*
*Don’t compare me with such mindless beings; that’s an insult to my great self!*
*But really… this place has changed a lot compared to when I last saw it…*
Rororon’s voice carried a hint of sadness and a deep sense of regret; Jareth felt puzzled by this situation.
‘I don’t remember any character or npc from the game that had a side story or something else mentioning about this talking evil spirit…’
‘According to the general trope in games… it seems like this little fellow used to live in the fairy kingdom… he might even be a dead fairy spirit that turned into evil spirit somehow…’
Fairies are one of the best healing magic users in the world; their healing and purification capabilities are off the charts.
If Jareth had the support of the fairy race, he could have easily set up a method to purify whatever corruption was plaguing this planet.
Then he could have asked them to help power and enhance the ‘false dome’ barrier with their powerful purification magic.
That way, the false dome barrier would have lasted much longer; it would have been strengthened to the point that it would extend the barrier’s lifespan by nearly a thousand years or even more.
‘I don’t know… Why didn’t Zion or Luche protect the fairy race?… Luche is a weirdo that isn’t reliable so forget about her. why didn’t Zion step up I wonder…’
‘Was he staying outside this planet all this time? Don’t tell me that he came to this planet after centuries just because I ended up killing Konda…’
Zion final boss area was not on this planet, which might suggest that he was never planning on coming back to this planet and was planning to die a lonely death when the false dome barrier shattered.
‘Sigh, the fairies are truly a pitiful race…’
*Ugh… I feel very uncomfortable watching these powerful warriors’ bodies get tarnished like that… it’s a mockery of their honour…*
“An evil spirit talking about honour and feelings—that’s so weird… I didn’t expect a day would come that I would hear these words from the mouth of an evil being…”
Jareth teasing tone irritated Rororon, and he retorted loudly.
*Like I already said! I am not an evil being!!*
*Also, these skeletons belong to the ‘Giant’ race’s most honourable warriors that sacrificed their lives to protect the fairy empire and the innocent people…*
*Their bodies should be treated with respect; miasma is making a mockery of everything that the fairies held dear to them!*
Rororon’s words had deep anger, sadness, regret, and helplessness in them. Jareth could feel that despite being an evil spirit, this little fellow was very intelligent!
Not only was he knowledgeable about the history of this area, but he also had a very strong emotional intelligence.
Although he seemed to be hiding some big secret, Jareth felt more and more amused at his words.
‘In the game, there was no mention of the giants or anything of that sort; I just used to think that these skeletons were something that were made out of miasma and the will of the dead fairies…’
‘To think they also have such a story behind their presence here… this world still has many secrets that I don’t know about…’
Jareth sighed to himself and increased his pace of running even more, using his mana to strengthen himself.
The consumption of mana was already skyrocketing, and so he didn’t want to waste too much time lingering around in this place.
Jareth followed the narrow, broken stone road; although everything around him was dark, he already knew that he was getting closer and closer to his goal.
*I don’t know if you should be heading in this direction… isn’t this the direction that leads deeper into this hell hole?…*
*How much deeper are you planning to go?*
“I am aiming for the ‘Miracle City, Levina’!”
*Miracle city, my foot! It would be more suitable to call it the city of ‘Misery and Misfortune,’ in my opinion…*
“You talk as if you have been there… Did you used to live there or what?”
Rororon went silent at Jareth’s words and didn’t reply, which made Jareth even more amused.
‘Not replying is as good as agreeing with my hypothesis; this fellow is definitely not normal…’
Jareth kept asking various questions to extract more information from the evil spirit and find out more information about various things in this place.
Rororon only answered with vague remarks and refused to tell Jareth anything crucial, as if he was actively trying to avoid talking about the miracle city.
‘Well, even I know that the miracle city might not look as good as its name suggests… after all, it’s a city that was devastated by the humans and has been abandoned for centuries…’
‘It might really have become too devastated to even be considered a city by now… I don’t know if there will be any difference from the game…’
The layout and map of the miracle city are unknown to Jareth; he’s heard about it but has never seen dedicated videos or images about it.
He only knows about the item that he needs from the city but has no idea where he might find it.
