Chapter 249: The Mysterious Origin of the Sword ‘Astra’.
“Y-you have already reached the peak of grade 4 and can use spells that have the same power as grade 3 already!? How do you progress so fast!?”

Sitting on a bench in the garden of the mansion given to them by the elven queen to stay, Mark and Risa were killing time while chatting about various things.

A look of extreme shock appeared on Risa’s face as she heard Mark’s claims.

“Well… even I was surprised but… when we worked together with the professor to solve that giant miasmic monster near the abyss rift, I was able to get some realization…”

“And thus, my magic has made further progress… Once we go back the empire, I think I will be able to advance to grade-3 in just a few months at most…”

Risa sighed heavily at Mark’s words.

“I have barely stabilized myself in the grade-4 and it will take a while to go further… your insanely fast progress really makes other feel immense despair…”

‘In front of his insane magical talent… I feel like a trash with no talent whatsoever…’

In the world there are ordinary mages who make progress once every year or two, then there are geniuses like Risa who make progress every few months.

But as they say, there’s always a bigger fish in the ocean.

Mark is the type of genius who can improve tremendously in a matter of mere moments just by relying on sudden random inspiration.

“No need to feel down, young lady; you also have bright future ahead…”

Just when Risa and Mark were talking, Zion suddenly appeared, and seeing that Risa was feeling depressed, he decided to give some words of motivation.

He glanced at Mark, and a complex look appeared on his face.

‘No wonder Jareth thinks of him as the ‘Hope of Humanity’… this kid has even more talent than me!’

“Young lady, can you give us some time alone… I want to have a chat with your friend here…”

A look of suspicion appeared on Risa’s face.

As Risa’s brain circuit is very ‘unique’ in some ways, ever since she was a child, she has always felt that she was very incompatible with people who are ‘Hero Mentality Type.’

She feels comfortable around Mark and Jareth’s type of people, who have a ‘realist’ and a slightly villainous temperament.

Although Zion did work together with Jareth, Risa doesn’t trust him one bit.

She got up from the bench and spoke in a calm tone before leaving.

“I don’t know what business you have with Mark, but you better not do anything funny or I will definitely chase you the depths of hell for revenge…”

Risa is extremely weak compared to a legendary hero like Zion, but for the sake of her love, she has enough courage to even stand against the entire world, let alone Zion.

Even Zion’s eyes widened at her bold claims, but he didn’t say much and nodded his head as he watched her walk away into the distance.

“I see, you already have someone who will support you no matter what happens in the future… that’s quite good… even demons sometimes need company let alone a genius like you…”

“I have seen many talented minds go astray just because they had no one to support them…”

“Even I feel zealous seeing you now…”

Hearing Zion’s words, Mark just sighed and spoke in a calm tone.

“I don’t know… I have no idea what good deed I did in my life that I have so much support and love that even the legendary hero is feeling zealous of me…”

Zion smiled a bit as he walked over to Mark’s side and sat down on the bench in a relaxed posture.

“Ugh… at times like these… I kind of miss my wife…”

Mark was surprised at those words, as he had never read in any history books that the legendary hero Zion Reid even had a wife or a family.

“I had no idea you were married… that’s quite the surprise…”

“In the history books its said that you were so dedicated to your heroic work that you didn’t even have any thoughts about women…”

“By the way… the line you just said… it sounds just like those memes going on internet…”

Zion sighed at those words as he stared at the horizon in the distance.

“I have no idea about that, as I don’t watch what your young people do… but one thing’s for sure, the history books people wrote about me are all filled with too much bullsh*t…”

“Truth be told… when I was your age, I was a god*mn playboy… I would go to bars, drink all night and dance like an idiot…”

“I used to drink till I would get so drunk that I couldn’t even walk properly…”

“Fun fact, I once even fell in the sewer after drinking too much… my father was so d*mn furious at me that he had no other choice but send me to the elven nation to learn their manners and etiquette…”

Talking about the past, a wide grin appeared on Zion’s face.

The things he was talking about were the stories that even Jareth didn’t know because they weren’t mentioned in the game story.

Hearing his words a complex look appeared on Mark’s face.

“All the respect I had for you… has been ruthlessly destroyed by your words… you sound like a street thug instead of a legendary hero…”

Zion just sighed heavily at Mark’s words.

“Honestly speaking… if I had a choice, I would rather have chosen to live as a street thug than this ‘Hero’ life…”

“In my younger days, all I wanted was to live a peaceful and carefree life like any average rich kid from a wealthy family…”

Zion slumped over the bench like a worn-out corporate employee with the most depressing life possible.

“After I met my wife… I stopped being a playboy and devoted my life to her… I just wanted a peaceful life… I wanted to do nothing and rot away just like any other ordinary person…”

“But… As the saying goes, ‘Things that you want don’t happen, and what you don’t want, happens all the time’…”

“I ended up exactly opposite of what I had in mind…”

Zion put his hand in the pocket of his coat and brought out a broken locket. There was a photo of him, his wife, and his daughter on the locket’s inner side.

“The great terror ‘Konda’ struck my homeland and I had no choice but to raise my sword against it…”

“Thankfully, I came in contact with the ‘Sword of Salvation’ by pure chance at that time… or I would have also perished along with my hometown…”

Hearing Zion’s words, Mark became curious and asked without hesitation,

“Talking about that… I heard from professor about that sword of yours…”

“Even history books mention it as the highest-class weapon in the entire world… It is said to be able to even bring ‘dead’ back to life!”

“Is it really that powerful?…”

At Mark’s question, Zion nodded his head with an extremely serious look on his face.

“Yes… ‘Sword of Salvation—Astra’ is the strongest weapon in this world and it indeed has the power to bring even ‘Dead’ back to life…”

“If used at full power it can heal a person who’s already died back to full health as long as the resurrection is done within a set time limit…”

Mark was so shocked at those words that his jaw nearly dropped on the ground.

“S-so why didn’t you bring back your wife to life?”

Zion shook his head at those words.

“Like I said, it is only possible when the power of the ‘Sword of Salvation’ is used at its maximum potential… I am too weak to use it to its full potential…”

“That sword, ‘Astra,’ is a weapon that exceeds the ‘Grade-0’ level… It’s a weapon of such strength that if you can use it at full power, then you would already be considered beyond Grade-0!!”

Zion’s words were so shocking that Mark’s eyes constricted, and he felt just how insignificant the current him was in front of the grand scheme of things.

Zion is already one of the strongest persons in this world, and yet even he can’t use ‘Astra’ to its full potential, which just shows how overpowered this weapon actually is.

“H-how…. I mean W-who in the world even made this weapon!? Even making a grade-0 weapon is already the stuff of legends!”

“How was a weapon of such caliber even created!?”

Zion sighed at those words and spoke in a heavy tone,

“I am quite sure that this sword doesn’t belong to our world… it’s something that came from somewhere else…”

“It was likely brought here by someone else…”

Zion didn’t continue further on this topic because Mark doesn’t know about the ‘Golden Descendant’ and the ‘Sea of Infinite Miasma.’

‘I am quite sure that this sword belonged to that ‘Golden Being’ of the bygone era…’

‘But why would he leave his sword behind? Did that ‘being’ somehow ‘die’ and his sword end up here, or did he leave it behind on purpose? …’

‘There are so many mysterious in this world that even after living for thousands of years, I still never get bored of it…’
