Chapter 248: A Backup Plan for the ‘Future’ of the World.
Elven Capital.
In a small mansion located in an area with very few architectures, a small temporary lab has been built in the basement area.
‘Hmm… the chemical composition and the elemental composition of this thing are extremely bizarre…’
‘In terms of actual composition, this leaf is no different from a leaf of any other tree but in terms of elemental composition it’s so complex and has high affinity for nearly all elements…’
Jareth put down the test tubes in his hand and grabbed the leaf of the world tree in his hand with a solemn look on his face.
‘I only have one leaf or I would have definitely liked to dissect it completely and figure out it’s mysteries slowly…’
Jareth shook his head and put the leaf back into his system space.
‘The amazing elemental features of the leaf of the world tree are just a few abilities of it…’
‘This thing can be used for creating magic weapons, powerful artifacts, high-grade potions and can even be used as a catalyst for a high-grade magic…’
Jareth sighed at the various possibilities this leaf represents and a thought came to his mind.
‘With this leaf as a catalyst for the magic circle, opening a wormhole with a combination of technology and magic is not just a dream anymore…’
‘It won’t be long before I will succeed…’
Jareth walked out of the basement and glanced at the clear blue sky from the windows while walking through the long empty hallway.
“I know you are there; are you trying to appear mysterious or something by hiding in there?”
Jareth seemed to have only mumbled those words at random, but the air suddenly trembled, and the void shook as a man wearing a silver coat appeared out of seemingly nowhere.
“So you have become capable of bending void to the point that you can conceal yourself into it now? That’s quite interesting…”
In this miasma-covered world, it’s impossible for anyone to ascend beyond grade 0 to a newer grade, and unless they do so, no matter how powerful you are, breaking the space-time fabric is very difficult.
Those times when Jareth managed to do so were just purely because of the ‘Attack cards’ he had used.
Even Zion, despite his immense talents and powers, is unable to break through the space-time fabric and conceal himself in the ‘Void’.
Although he can’t rip apart the space-time fabric, it’s very much possible for him to bend the space-time fabric in such a way that no one else can see or sense him from outside the fold in the fabric of space and time.
“Well, I learned this recently after seeing that massive spatial rift… you can say that I had a sudden stroke of realization or something like that…”
“But I am quite surprised you can sense it despite my best efforts to conceal my mana and presence…”
“That ‘Mana Singularity’ that you have… it really is a very overpowered ability; if only I had it… sigh…”
Jareth shook his head at Zion’s complaints and spoke in a calm tone.
“You know it better than anyone else why you don’t have mana singularity…”
While saying those words, Jareth glanced towards the sky, or in particular, towards the ‘Endless Sea of Miasma.’
“If my theories are correct, the sea of miasma seems to have an incomplete consciousness…”
“It’s like how animals have instincts that guide their decisions without any need of a higher consciousness…”
“The sea of miasma seems to be expanding and devouring everything just on pure instincts…”
Jareth glanced at Zion at that moment.
“The Sea of Miasma can likely instinctively sense the danger you pose to it… that’s likely the reason why you were never able to get ‘Mana Singularity’ despite being the strongest mage for several millennia…”
“If you had ‘Mana Singularity,’ it would have become hundred times more difficult for the sea of miasma to invade this world…”
“And you might have actually been able to repair the great seal… the false dome seal all by yourself…”
Hearing Jareth’s words, Zion sighed heavily.
“You are also strong; can’t you repair the great seal too?”
Jareth shook his head at those words.
“The False Dome seal is insanely massive; even if I spend my entire lifespan just repairing it, I will never be able to repair it by even one percent…”
“It would just be a wasted effort…”
‘Of course there’s another way; that is to sacrifice my own lifespan and use my own body as a catalyst…’
‘That way the seal can be repaired at least to the point that it won’t collapse for another two or three thousand years…’
‘But I obviously will never use my own life so wastefully…’
Zion is a half-elf; thus, his lifespan is immense. Even though he has already lived for several millennia, he’s barely even in his ‘twenties’ compared to humans.
If he had ‘Mana Singularity,’ he could have spent thousands of years to repair the seal while sacrificing his own life force and eventually dying because of that, which would have been a major headache for the sea of miasma.
The Sea of Miasma has the power to ‘Bend’ the ‘Laws’ of the ‘World’ to a small degree and it likely bent the ‘Laws’ so that Zion doesn’t get any ‘Legendary techniques.’
Jareth, on the other hand, is just a normal human with a very small lifespan.
Although he’s reached immense heights in magic and his lifespan has improved due to that, it’s still too small.
“I just don’t get it. How was this massive seal even created!? Who was that Golden Descendant in the legends anyway!?”
Hearing Zion’s question Jareth shook his head and replied in a calm tone,
“Hmm… that ‘being’ likely had already transcended the realm of mortals… he was likely above grade-0… that the is to say…”
“With his powers and abilities, it won’t be wrong to call him a ‘Demi-God’… and his presence is the best proof that there are other humans that exist far away from this planet…”
“Maybe even outside the ‘Sea of Miasma’…”
Zion sighed at Jareth’s words.
“The ‘Sea of Miasma’ seems endless and so massive that I can’t sense the end of it no matter what… I truly doubt if there even is an ‘Outside’ left anymore…”
“Perhaps everything has already been swallowed by the sea of miasma…”
“The future of humanity seems extremely bleak in my opinion…”
Hearing the self-deprecating tone of Zion, Jareth shook his head and spoke in a tone full of confidence and pride.
“There is one way out… Mark Kalashnikov… the ‘Future of Mankind,’ he’s the genius who has the capability to create a new ‘Path’ for humanity…”
“As long as he’s given enough time to grow up, I am quite sure that he will be the guiding light for the entire world in the future…”
Jareth himself is planning to leave this planet because he thinks that to be the solution with the highest probability of him surviving.
But he never depends on just one single plan.
Mark was declared the ‘Most talented Person’ in the entire world by the game developers.
No one on this planet has succeeded in crossing the great hurdle of the higher realm, but Jareth is very sure that Mark will be the one who can cross his hurdle.
He just needs ‘time.’
And that’s what this world doesn’t have at all; this world lacks ‘time.’
“The reason why I am desperately trying to destroy the plans of the false dome cult is because I want to buy more ‘Time’ for Mark…”
“I want to stop them from harming the ‘Golden Nails’ so that Mark has enough time to grow up before the false dome seal breaks apart…”
Thinking about this matter from such a perspective, it seems like ‘Mark’ is the real protagonist of this world, not that pathetic guy ‘Allen.’
Suddenly a realization came to Jareth’s mind.
‘There’s no way that the ‘World’ will let people die and won’t interfere… this is a magical world and the ‘World’ itself must be a little bit conscious too if the ‘Sea of Miasma’ is also conscious…’
‘That means, ‘Mark’ might be the manifestation of the help that the ‘World’ is trying to give to this dying planet…’
‘Then what is ‘Allen’? Why does he have the ‘Heavenly Luck’ blessing him’?
Jareth had no idea why there were seemingly two completely different protagonists present on this planet at the exact same time when such a thing should have been impossible.
‘It’s as if…. As if, the ‘World’ and the ‘Heavenly Will’ are against each other…’
The more Jareth thinks and finds out about this world, the more bizarre it gets and the more questions he has in his mind.
“Hmm, I see… okay then, in the future when I am done with dealing with my work here, I will also help you with training that kid…”
“I will still pursue my original plan, but it’s not a bad thing to keep a backup plan either. I will support you in this matter too…”
Zion raised his fist towards Jareth, and Jareth did the same; the two of them bumped their fists against each other to show their agreement.
Jareth then sighed and decided to walk away.
“I will be leaving the elven empire soon; if you want to meet the kiddo, do it soon…”
