Chapter 407: Better Than Steven’s Kitchen
He looked at the assortment of ingredients on the cabinet and sighed, he had never really seen so many ingredients in one place before.

He was really surprised.

There was a great amount of perfectly packed monster meat, they just looked like regular meat.

As for the fish, the Monster fishes were really preserved raw. He looked at the different cabinets and Layla widened her eyes upon realizing that this was his first time in the kitchen.

She looked at him because he looked way too composed for someone who clearly didn’t know where anything was.

“Do I need to assign a maid to make you familiar with the kitchen?” She asked.

While she wanted to see if her son-in-law could cook… she wasn’t deranged enough to watch him stumble around and then judge him for it.

Azel, who could see the name tags of the ingredients due to the System, raised his hand and shook his head. “No need, I already know what these items are.”

Layla blinked. “You know… all of them?”

Even she mixed things up sometimes, especially with the rarer monster herbs and spices but he nodded confidently.

“I have what I want to cook in mind.” Azel said as he reached into an open cabinet, pulling out a bowl where a whole Mountain Beast worth of meat had been sealed with a preservation enchantment.

When he dropped it onto the counter, the marble surface thudded softly under the weight.

Then, without hesitation, he began moving around the kitchen like a man who had been cooking there for years… opening drawers, grabbing utensils, selecting containers of herbs until he had lined everything up neatly on the wide counter.

The ingredients were: Mountain-Beast meat, Stonehorn bone-marrow stock, Ember carrots, Frost potatoes, Heart onions, Hearth butter, flour, Sun salt, Blackrock pepper, Bronze-bay leaves, Cloud-sage, and Ironroot vinegar.

“I can’t believe I was able to get all the ingredients here.” Azel stretched his hands. “This kitchen really has everything.”

“Ah, that’s quite a set of ingredients… What are you planning to cook?” Layla asked.

Even she… someone who loved cooking had never gathered this combination before.

“Well you see… when I was still staying with my father, The Sword Saint,” Azel said, taking a knife from a holder and testing its weight, “he didn’t particularly like cooking, but he loved eating new kinds of food. So I took it upon myself to experiment with healthy stuff to make a personal dish you’ve never seen before.”

But the truth was much darker.

‘That bastard handed me a cookbook of his wife’s recipes and forced me to find all the ingredients in the forest… and then had the nerve to say the food was “not bad.”‘

He ignored the memory and smiled at his mother-in-law. “I call it Mountain Beast Hearty Stew, to be served with rice.”

“Mountain beast? I’ve seen a lot of stews made with Mountain beast, but never with these ingredients.” Bella’s voice entered, and she stepped closer with a sparkle in her eyes.

She was also in charge of cooking in the mansion. “Please cook, my lord… so I can learn from your greatness.”

“It’s been a while so my Cooking skills might have deteriorated,” Azel replied, though he knew damn well they hadn’t. They were maxed out after all.

He pulled out a wide plate and placed the Mountain Beast meat on it.

The bowl was large and it was the perfect size for the oversized beast. He lifted his knife and then the kitchen fell silent.

He moved.

His speed wasn’t just fast… It was Blinding.

The knife blurred through the air in smooth, efficient strokes. In less than a minute, every piece of Mountain Beast meat had turned into perfectly cut cubes.

Bella’s hand flew to her mouth.

”What the fuck?”

“I swear I used to be faster,” Azel muttered. It had been a while since he cooked anything, but he honestly expected himself to be smoother.

That single comment shook Layla.

Faster? This already looked like mana-enhanced professional technique, except he hadn’t used a drop of mana.

He took a mixing bowl, and when he set it down he couldn’t help but sigh slightly.

‘There are so many bowls… Steven could learn to buy more for his kitchen.’

But Bella misunderstood completely.

“M-my lord… don’t be disappointed. We do not have as much facilities for cooking as the Sword Saint’s household, but we try our best.”

Azel’s expression twitched.

‘What do you know about cooking with three cracked plates and a pot older than you?’

Instead, he simply nodded. “I actually like it.”

He took the container of Sun salt, sprinkled some into the bowl, then added Blackrock pepper.

After that, he uncorked the Ironroot Vinegar and poured a measured amount inside. He picked up a spoon and stirred in slow rotations.

The mix didn’t splash but he continued mixing until the scent rose.

“It smells… surprisingly good…” Bella said as she stepped closer.

Azel placed the cubes of meat into the mixture and began mixing them thoroughly, coating every surface until the meat glistened lightly from the marinade.

Then he pulled out another plate.

Now it was time for the vegetables.

“I’ve never seen Ember carrots and Frost potatoes used together,” Layla admitted. Azel didn’t respond; he was already slicing.

And again…

He blurred.

Ember carrots were chopped round in thick, sturdy pieces so they wouldn’t disintegrate in the stew.

Frost potatoes were cut into large, chunky cubes.

Heart-onions were sliced into heart-shaped loops that curled naturally.

Then suddenly he winced, stopped, and put the knife down.

“I cut myself.”

He lifted his hand where a small cut leaked blood. He had lowered his bone density since this wasn’t combat, but he forgot that cooking was practically warfare.

Sybil immediately floated over and took his hand gently.

“Let me see…” she said.

And then, without any bit of hesitation, she popped his finger into her mouth to suck out the blood…

Only for her to pull it back just as quickly.

“Your finger tastes like onions.” Sybil said as she squeezed her face and floated backward.
