Chapter 405: Emergency
Belle took a deep breath as the cheering continued and the quadruplets remained in their poses, though their faces betrayed concern.
The roar of the crowd continued beautifully, yet her stomach twisted; She was really tired of it all.
‘So I have to run all the way back?’ She stared at the distant mansion.
The performance venue was far… far enough that even she, with all her stamina, would need multiple breaks to cover. She had already burned enough energy trying to make her way here after all.
‘I’m fucked.’
The crowd still clapped. She still stood near the center with the quadruplets, frozen in a triumphant pose as more flowers rained down though they looked concerned.
Suddenly, a blur descended from the sky.
Before she could react, someone scooped her clean off the ground and soared upward.
“H-hey, let go!” Bella flailed desperately, kicking her feet until she managed a glance at the face holding her.
Her hands fell limp.
“Oh my lord… you didn’t have to carry me.” She stared openly.
Up close, Azel’s face looked unfairly perfect… he was composed and almost looked divine with gold light gleaming from his holy wings.
She finally understood why Sybil, of all people, acted submissive around him. If this man told her to kneel for the rest of the week, she would probably consider it an honor and do it without hesitation.
“You looked like you were in urgent need of transport,” Azel said calmly as he flew upward, his wings widened as he accelerated. “Besides, I want to know what you told Sybil that made her bolt like that.”
“Well…” Bella swallowed as the wind whipped past them. “The Clan Mistress has been brutally wounded.”
Azel came to such an abrupt stop that Bella nearly slipped from his arms. He caught her securely, golden light wrapping around her like a cushion.
“Mother-in-law is wounded?” His voice dropped.
Bella nodded quickly as Azel shot forward again, this time far faster.
“She was brought in by a group of adventurers. They tried first aid, and the Junior healers are with her now, but… but they said the Mistress may not make it.”
“How did it happen?” he pressed.
“She hasn’t said. The Clan Head didn’t want the news spreading until he knew more.” Bella clutched his tracksuit as the mansion came into sight. “That was why he wanted Lady Sybil immediately.”
Azel exhaled sharply. “If the healers can’t save her, I’ll try.”
They descended rapidly, landing in the mansion courtyard.
Bella staggered as soon as her feet hit the ground while Azel helped her stand properly and nodded.
“Please lead me to her.”
“I—I’m not supposed to be in that roo—”
“Are you going to risk the life of your mistress?” Azel asked as he looked into her eyes. “Let’s get going.”
Bella’s legs shook, but she obeyed and led him inside.
…
Sybil burst into the main room.
Her father stood beside the bed with his shoulders rigid.
Sylus sat nearby, wrapped in fresh bandages from his earlier fight with Azel. Her two older sisters hovered anxiously at the edges.
Her mother lay across the bed, she was pale and trembling.
Jagged wounds carved across her torso and arms, each one wrapped haphazardly by the Junior healers who were working without magic.
Sybil’s heart plummeted.
“Why aren’t they using healing magic?!” Her voice cracked as she rounded on the nearest healer. “Where are the standby healers?!”
“They all returned to the Starbloom Church a week ago and won’t be back until tomorrow,” the Clan Head said tightly.
His jaw was clenched so hard it trembled. “We’re trying to slow the bleeding.”
“I-I’ll be fine…” her mother whispered.
She smiled gently despite her pain.
Unlike the rest of the family, she had no natural regeneration… She was born a commoner before marrying into the Astra line, she carried none of the blessed heritage. “I just need to wait until tomorrow…”
Sybil knelt beside the bed, gripping her mother’s hand with both of hers.
Even if she despised nearly everyone in the family at one time or another, she adored her calm, warm mother.
“I can get Azel,” Sybil said suddenly. “I left him at the venu—”
Then her lips froze.
She had left him… On the date…. At the performance… That was rude.
“He can heal,” she repeated quickly.
“He can heal?” the Clan Head said. Sylus’s head snapped up.
“Like healing magic?” Sylus added, completely stunned.
“There’s no guarantee the Mistress can last that long,” the Junior Healer said as he dabbed water across her mother’s cheek. “She is fading.”
Sybil’s hands balled into fists.
She turned toward the window, focusing on every current of air her mana could sense. “I just have to use Second Windflow, right?”
She was a prodigy of wind, but Windflow required control, not talent. She had never truly attempted it… but this was not the moment to hesitate.
Her feet shifted and her eyes glowed green…
Just as she was about to launch herself out through the window, the door burst open.
Azel stepped in with Bella behind him who was panting and completely hunched over.
“Father-in-law,” he said, moving straight to the bedside. “I’m sorry for barging in.”
Sybil’s eyes widened.
He made it… He made it before she even took off.
‘Does that mean he followed me?’ She thought, she really felt at ease now.
Azel hovered his hand over the Mistress’s chest. ‘I’m right on time…’
Holy energy gathered at his palm… a pale golden glow, thinned deliberately so he wouldn’t overwhelm her fragile body.
The divinity pulsed softly as he pressed his hand to her chest.
The woman exhaled shakily.
Light seeped into her wounds like warm sunlight melting frost. The bandaged cuts sealed themselves effortlessly, skin stitching together until not even a scar remained.
Color returned to her cheeks and her trembling eased. She could finally breathe properly now.
The entire room froze.
Azel withdrew his hand gently, and the Clan Mistress opened her eyes fully for the first time since she was brought in.
Her once-torn clothes remained damaged, but her body was whole.
Sybil covered her mouth as tears welled in her eyes.
The Mistress raised both hands and took Azel’s in hers. Her palms were still warm from the healing light.
“From the bottom of my heart… thank you very much,” she whispered. Then her eyes lifted to meet his and her expression softened. “Your eyes… they look quite royal.”
