Chapter 399: How To Impress Your Father-In-Law [II]
“H… huh?” The Clan Head stared at the scene before him as if reality itself had betrayed him.

He refused… absolutely refused to believe what he was seeing.

And judging by the looks on Sybil’s sisters’ faces, and even their husbands’, that disbelief was shared across the entire table.

The maids were frozen, the butler was trembling, and even the decorative paintings on the wall seemed offended by the sight.

Sybil… the hot-headed, loud-mouthed, a walking disaster of curses and unfiltered thoughts… was sitting next to a man like a shy maiden in love.

She was submissive, cute and flushed like she’d swallowed her own dignity.

The Clan Head rubbed his eyes.

Her sisters exchanged looks that clearly screamed what the fuck is going on.

“Ah.” The Clan Head cleared his throat dramatically, as if that might reset the universe. “When my daughter informed me that the Sword Saint’s son would be coming to meet us today, I was quite surprised. In fact, I dared say I did not believe it one bit.”

“Dad!” Sybil yelled, mortified.

“And I’m sure you understand,” he continued mercilessly, ignoring her, “that my daughter is… not the brightest tool in the shed.”

“Father!” Sybil kicked the table leg under the cloth.

“And she is not, perhaps, the most… endowed woman in the Empire. Men your age tend to enjoy large breasts. Sybil, unfortunately, lacks that as well.”

Her sisters nodded sympathetically like helpful demons.

Sybil glared daggers at both of them and her cheeks were red with embarassment.

“Can I know your intentions with my daughter,” the Clan Head asked, turning back to Azel, “and why you want to marry her?”

Azel shrugged gently and ran a hand through his styled silver hair. “I love Sybil because she’s Sybil.”

Sybil froze and her ears tingled… When she confessed, she didn’t let him say why he loved her. So this was the perfect time to hear it.

‘I hope it’s not something cringe and stupid.’

“Yes, she’s incredibly perverted,” Azel added without remorse, “and she talks about having sex at least twelve times a day.”

Sybil jabbed him in the stomach but he didn’t budge.

She hurt her own finger.

“And she might not have the biggest breasts in the Empire,” he continued casually, “but Sybil is beautiful and she’s strong. She has a fire in her that doesn’t come from magic or aura… she fights for the people she loves, even when she’s scared. She gets loud when she’s excited, curses when she’s embarrassed, and tries her hardest even when the world expects her to fail. She makes life fun and every day I spend with her is a reminder that I actually like waking up in the morning.”

The table went dead silent.

Even the husbands blushed.

Sybil covered her face entirely, red from ears to collarbone.

“So yes,” Azel concluded softly, “I think she’ll make a great wife.”

The Clan Head blinked rapidly and took a sip of wine, trying to hide the fact that he, too, felt something warm bloom in his chest.

Azel picked up a cup of wine. “Then I understand the reason you’re testing me. Even I wouldn’t want to hand my daughter off to some random man.”

The Clan Head sighed, nodding slowly. “Of course. You’ve passed the first test… and the next will come immediately after breakfast. But I do have one question.”

“Yes, Father-in-law.”

“I know Sybil didn’t tell you to arrive during breakfast.” He stared at his daughter accusingly, making her shrink like a scolded puppy. “She is absolutely the type of girl to forget. So how did you know to come at this time?”

“Oh, that?” Azel smiled as if it were obvious. “I’ve been studying how to marry an Astra Clan daughter. Would you believe there’s a book on that in the library?”

He shrugged. “It said I was supposed to arrive during breakfast, dressed properly, to impress.”

A wave of amazement swept through the table.

The Clan Head stroked his beard proudly.

‘He checks all my boxes,’ he thought. ‘Not only can he handle my daughter, he has impressed the entire family. He even did research. A serious young man… I truly never imagined Sybil of all people would bring home someone like this.’

“Though,” Azel added politely, “I must ask… where is Mother-in-law?”

The Clan Head cleared his throat. “She went to handle business in the capital. She’ll be back tomorrow. You can meet her then.”

“I look forward to it,” Azel said.

“For now, let us begin breakfast.”

Azel looked down at the spread of food.

Truthfully, he hadn’t read the book… why bother? He remembered what Reinhardt did in the game.

Following the same steps seemed safe. But looking at the table, he couldn’t help the thought:

‘Damn… is that crab?’

There were trays upon trays of expensive meals… spiced meats, seasoned noodles, rare seafood, pastries with gold dust, fruit cut into the shape of the Empire crest.

The Astra Clan clearly ate like nobles who took pride in being nobles.

‘I’m not picky,’ Azel thought. ‘I’ll just eat and then grab something else later. Marrying a noble daughter sure comes with stress.’

He reached for his fork only for Sybil to block his hand with hers with her eyes sparkling.

“Let me feed you instead…”

She scooped a piece of meat from his plate and lifted it toward his lips.

“Say ‘Ah~'”

The entire room froze.

Azel leaned forward obediently and opened his mouth. “Ah.”

He chewed, nodded, and smiled warmly. “It tastes great. The maids did excellent work.”

“T-Thank you…” one of the maids whispered, her knees had turned weak.

Azel then took his own fork, twirled a little of Sybil’s peppered noodles, and lifted the bite toward her lips.

“Say ‘Ah.'”

Sybil’s entire soul melted. She opened her mouth, trembling, and he fed her gently.

The maids nearly fainted.

…

Breakfast eventually came to an end though the Clan Head had spent most of it resisting the urge to groan.

‘Those two are making me jealous,’ he thought bitterly. ‘Why does my daughter get this life? Why does she get this kind of man? Is this fair? Is this justice? I want to be fed like that too…’

But now it was time for the next test and the Clan head looked forward to it… It wasn’t a serious one, even the other husbands here had failed too.

Azel stood up politely.

And at that exact moment…

WHOOSH.

A blur moved across the dining hall faster than human eyes could follow. The tablecloth fluttered.

A spinning kick descended toward Azel’s face like an execution.

Azel sighed, casually raised a hand, and caught the foot mid-spin.

The force compressed under his grip, suppressing the wind magic enough to stop the attack from blowing the table apart.

Everyone gasped.

The attacker landed lightly on the floor with a grin.

“Welcome, Brother-in-law.”
