Chapter 365: Test Subject
‘I feel drained…’ Azel thought, dragging himself out of bed.
Not only had Medusa completely worn him out the moment he stepped into the house after handling the Sybil situation, but he’d also spent half the night inspecting the new boundaries of their territory.
“Master…” Medusa murmured in her sleep, clinging to his side like a vine.
Lillia, on the other hand, had both arms wrapped around his waist like the good daughter she was.
He sighed. ‘These women are going to suffocate me one of these days.’
Carefully, he slipped free from their grips and got to his feet.
His uniform hung neatly on a nearby chair… it was washed, ironed, and freshly perfumed.
Probably Anya’s handiwork. After a quick shower and breakfast, he adjusted his tie and headed outside.
He wanted to get to the Academy early for today… but before that, he had something else in mind.
The backyard was quiet except for the sound of sharp impacts sounding through the morning mist.
Feng was there, he was completely bare-chested and his fists were glowing with mana as he threw strike after strike at the empty air.
Each punch detonated a burst of mana, creating a shockwave that kicked up dust around him.
When Feng noticed him, he immediately stopped and straightened with sweat glistening across his body. “Master! Good morning!”
“You look rather dashing today,” Azel said with a half-smile.
Feng rubbed his nose bashfully. “Thank you, Master. You look… well, beautiful, as always.”
Azel chuckled and stepped closer.
Feng had changed.
His frame was a lot tougher and he could control mana easier, he even looked like he could tank a few hits from Sebastian.
“I see your closed cultivation did more than I expected,” Azel said. “Let’s try something before I head out for today…”
Feng blinked. “Try something?”
Azel rolled his shoulders, stretching his arms. “A little test. Nothing serious.”
That was only half-true.
He was planning to see if Sebastian’s pressure point technique worked on mages as well. The best way to learn was through practice, and unfortunately for Feng, he was the most durable sparring partner available.
Plus maybe he did want another person to feel a little bit of the frustration he had been going through yesterday… what could he say? Today he suddenly felt very petty.
The instant Azel raised his hand, his aura flared around him like a cloak.
“Master… you’re using aura?” Feng asked, stepping back and instinctively summoning mana to his limbs.
“Yes,” Azel said simply.
Then, with a deep voice. “Come.”
Feng’s body tensed, and in the next moment, his mana erupted… blue light flashing from his skin as he lunged forward, kicking off the ground.
His speed was impressive and was a lot better than what he could manage to do before, but Azel had trained with Sebastian in close combat for hours and died more times than he could count in that damn mental domain.
Compared to Sebastian, Feng’s movements looked like a slow-motion tutorial.
Azel tilted his head just enough for the kick to pass by his cheek.
The wind brushed his hair but the only thing that the wind could do was to make his hair cooler.
Feng twisted mid-air and spun into another strike, this time reinforcing his legs with a dense mana coating.
“Nice try.”
Azel parried with his forearm, redirecting the blow.
The air cracked from the force… Feng couldn’t understand how his master was using minimal aura to block his strong attacks.
Feng hit the ground and countered instantly, summoning a gleaming spear of pure mana in his hands. “Then let’s get serious!”
He thrust rapidly, the spear flickering like lightning as he launched a flurry of strikes.
Each jab carried mana compression enough to punch through stone.
But Azel was already moving through them, weaving between the attacks effortlessly. It was straight up bullying.
‘Alright… time to see if it works.’
He channeled aura into his fingertips.
Pressure point seventy-nine, if Sebastian’s crazy lessons were accurate, which they were… this pressure point was located on the outer thigh.
Pressing it gently should cause temporary paralysis. Too much force, however… and the victim would never walk again.
A shimmering barrier of mana formed around Feng, but Azel blurred past it in an instant.
His two fingers struck precisely. The barrier shattered like glass, and the pressure point was hit before Feng even realized what happened.
The young man stumbled, looking confused. “Why do I… feel so woozy…?”
Then his legs buckled, and he dropped to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut.
“Boss… what is this?” Feng said, his voice calm despite his body refusing to move.
“I hit one of the pressure points in your body,” Azel said, folding his arms and pacing like a teacher giving a lecture. “Think of it as a lesson in anatomy and self-defense. You’ve got dozens of weak spots hidden under all that muscle. Your job now is to find every single one of them… without crippling yourself in the process.”
Feng’s eyes sparkled despite lying flat. “Understood, Master! But… how do I move again?”
“It’ll wear off in an hour or two.” Azel waved him off casually. “Consider it a learning experience.”
“Y-yes, Master…”
Azel smiled and turned toward the door.
…
The walk to the Academy was quiet. He was so early that students were only just beginning to arrive.
‘I actually have free time for once,’ he thought. A nap on the Academy roof didn’t sound too bad, the First Calamity was coming up. ‘I need to move them away from the academy for now… Who knows when this calamity will start?’
But just as he was about to head in that direction…
“Azel!”
He turned and immediately blinked.
Esme was sprinting toward him, her hair sticking out in every possible direction with goggles pushed up onto her head and soot smeared on her cheek.
She looked like she had survived a small explosion.
“It worked—the formula that—you gave—” she gasped, words tumbling out so fast they became one continuous sound.
“Hey, hey. Slow down.” Azel raised a hand. “I’m not running away.”
Esme took a deep breath, hands on her knees, and tried again. “The formula for the mana potion… I tried your method. And it worked.”
“Really?” Azel’s eyebrows rose. “You fixed the stabilization?”
“Yes! It’s completely stable now. No smoke, no residue, no sudden kabooms though it took several trials!” she said proudly, reaching into her coat. “Here, look!”
She pulled out a small glass vial filled with swirling blue liquid. “Behold! My masterpiece! The Esmeralda Special.”
Azel looked at it skeptically. “You sure it won’t blow up in my face?”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” Esme frowned then added under her breath, “Well… not unless your mana flow is unstable.”
He blinked. “What?”
“Nothing! Absolutely nothing!” she said quickly. “Anyway, I need a test subject. So…” She thrust the vial toward him with a wide grin. “Drink up!”
