Chapter 364: Reasons To Love [II]
He read through it quietly. Every word felt personal… it was too personal for him to say out loud. It wouldn’t be as heartfelt if he did it himself.

So he handed the paper back.

She snatched it from him with a pout, her cheeks had completely turned as red as a tomato.

Then she slipped it into her storage ring.

“You’re very mean and you lack manners,” she said, crossing her arms. “My father could have you beheaded for this… you know?”

“Beheadings still happen?” Azel asked, raising a brow.

“That was like fifty years ago,” Sybil replied flatly. “But that’s not the point. Come on… I want to tell you the reasons.”

“Come where?” Azel asked but then he felt his body lift from the ground.

The wind moved beneath him, lifting him up.

“Wait… we’re going into the sky again?”

“Yes.” Sybil smiled with her green hair dancing in the breeze. “The head mage of the Resonant Library recommended a love story. The wind mage in it made the princess fly with him for a confession… so tonight, you’ll be my princess.”

She extended her hand with a smile. “You can refuse, but if you do, I’ll chase you down in front of everyone tomorrow and confess anyway.”

‘I’d actually like to see that,’ Azel thought. It would make it look just like a scene from a romance novel.

But he took her hand anyway.

In an instant, they soared into the moonlit sky… the academy gradually began shrinking below them as the wind whistled gently around their bodies.

It was quieter up here and very peaceful.

The light of the moon reflected off her hair, giving it a silvery glow that made her look… unreal.

“We did the ritual already,” she said softly. “In my family, I have to defeat the one I love when they’re exhausted… that’s the first test. Then I can introduce them to my parents.”

She glanced sideways at him. “I don’t actually care if you have more women. We’re all nobles. But you should help Flare too.”

Azel exhaled.

She looked different tonight… Maybe it was just the light, or maybe it was the honesty on her face. Her lips looked really kissable.

“So are you going to tell me?” he asked. “Or did you just drag me up here to freeze?”

“Shh,” she said with a small grin. “I was getting there. I managed to write a lot of reasons… about one hundred and forty-eight, actually. Even though I don’t know if I’m imposing on you or if I’m the only one in love.”

Azel smiled. “We haven’t even known each other that long.”

“But it feels like I’ve known you all my life.”

She reached out, taking both of his hands in hers. Her fingers were cold not because of the altitude, but because she was nervous and the fact that she was using something she had learned in books called “Buttering”.

“There are a lot of reasons I love you… but I’ll just list a few for now.”

Azel nodded. “Go on.”

“The first reason,” she began, “is that you don’t try to impress me.”

He blinked. “That’s… a reason?”

“It might sound silly, but it means everything to me,” she said earnestly. “I’m from a great clan, Azel. Every day, there are people trying to win my favor… with compliments, gifts, or pathetic smiles. But you never did. You just treat me like—”

“A normal person,” he finished.

Her eyes softened. “Exactly. And that’s the second reason. You treat me like a person. Everyone else calls me ‘Lady Sybil’ or focuses on me whenever I walk past. But you never cared about that.”

She laughed a little. “Honestly, that might be why I started liking you.”

He gave a small shrug. “If I started acting like that now, you’d hate me.”

“Probably.” She grinned. “Though if you talked to me a little less politely and stopped patting my head like a pet, you’d be hotter.”

He blinked. “You don’t like the headpats?”

“I love them,” she said quickly, then grabbed his hand and placed it gently on her head. “See?”

Azel froze, his face turning slightly pink.

“Relax,” she teased. “You always act so serious.”

He cleared his throat and tried to look away, but she could tell she’d caught him off guard.

“You also make me feel calm,” she continued, her voice softening again. “Remember that time I wanted to destroy those corpses after the meadow was ruined? You stopped me. You made me think clearly.”

Her gaze dropped slightly. “You do that all the time. You make my heart calm down when it’s going crazy.”

He looked at her in silence.

“I don’t think you realize it,” she said, “but whenever I look at you… I feel like I can breathe.”

She smiled though her cheeks were pink. “You also make me want to be better. If it weren’t for that, I might’ve been expelled already.”

She gave a small laugh. “You, Flare, and Esme… you brighten up my day. Even when I’m being unbearable.”

He chuckled quietly. “You said it, not me.”

Sybil shot him a mock glare, but it melted quickly into a smile. “And those cookies you left at the counter… they helped too. I went back and the maid said you left them behind.”

Azel tilted his head feigning confusion. “Cookies?”

“Yes. Don’t pretend you don’t remember. They tasted good, but it wasn’t about the taste… it was about the thought.”

There was a small silence. The wind brushed between them, carrying the scent of night-blooming flowers from the gardens below.

“So I have to ask,” she said finally, voice trembling, “Azel Thorne… do you love me?”

Azel looked at her and nodded once. “Yes.”

He didn’t hesitate.

Sybil’s breath caught in her throat. “Then… can you list your reasons like I did?”

“You took hours to come up with yours,” he replied.

“Shh.” She pressed a finger gently against his lips. “You can’t tell me you don’t have at least one.”

He smiled and was about to answer but stopped when she floated closer.

“I can see it in your eyes… There’s no need to say anything.”

Her emerald eyes caught the light of the moon, and for a second, the world seemed to slow down.

Azel’s hands wrapped around her waist as he pulled her face close and they kissed. Her lips tasted like the cookies he had bought… he pulled back shortly after and Sybil’s face was completely pink.

She looked him right in his eyes.

“Wanna fuck?”

Azel almost choked on his saliva… why did she have to ruin such a wholesome moment with her horny nature?

“Stop being so horny all the time.” He said as he kissed her once again.

…

Esme sighed, adjusting the binoculars in her hands.

‘Kissing in the sky looks so romantic,’ she thought as she watched them kiss in the sky, though she didn’t understand why her chest suddenly hurt.

‘Heart pain? Maybe it’s because I haven’t finished my project.’

She frowned, lowering the binoculars.

“…Guess it wouldn’t hurt to try what Azel suggested,” she muttered, glancing at the empty beakers on her desk.
