Chapter 267: Tradition
“Th… thank you.”

Elizabeth nodded with a gentle smile.

“You’re an amazing person.”

‘Amazing, huh?’ Azel thought as the girl walked away.

Was he really one?

Somehow, it didn’t feel right being called that.

He sighed and turned toward the staircase, only to see another figure descending.

Well, “descending” was a generous term — the man was stumbling more than walking, like a drunk trying to stay upright.

“Hello!” the newcomer greeted with a dramatic wave.

He wore long, flowing robes embroidered with golden threads that glowed under the mansion’s lights.

The man’s clothing practically screamed “noble.”

“You must be Azel Thorne,” he said grandly. “Naelia has told me so much about you.”

“I don’t talk about Azel!” Naelia quickly protested, cheeks pink. “Or do I?”

“How interesting.” The man reached the bottom of the stairs, his purple hair shining under the chandelier.

Even the way it swayed looked rehearsed. “This must be your first time meeting a Great Mage face-to-face. Allow me to grant you the honor of—”

‘Now this,’ Azel thought, suppressing a sigh, ‘is exactly how I expected Great Mages to behave.’

The man was yapping away, completely absorbed in his own theatrics.

Azel barely listened, eyes drifting toward the decorative wall designs instead.

Naelia leaned closer, whispering quietly,

“Don’t mind Crono. He’s like this all the time. He’s actually a nice guy once you get past the bragging. He’s a close friend of Father’s.”

“What’s he the Great Mage of again?” Azel whispered back, though he already suspected.

“Shadow,” she said.

Azel wanted to laugh.

Of course.

Now he remembered.

Crono… the Great Mage of Shadow was the same one who’d died first in the war against the Children of the Sky.

They’d mounted his head on a spike as a warning to the others.

‘Poor guy,’ Azel thought.

Still, the man was alive and well for now.

Maybe history would change this time or maybe not… At least not with this attitude.

Crono straightened his posture dramatically, crossing both arms over his chest.

“So, how many days do you plan on staying?”

“Two,” Azel replied calmly. “Then we’ll be on our way.”

It was better than renting an inn.

This town’s laws were too lenient on firearms and though bullets couldn’t kill him, they still hurt.

“Ah, splendid!” Crono clapped his hands.

The sharp sound echoed through the hall.

Two maids descended the stairs instantly, their uniforms were immaculate.

“Please see to our guests,” Crono ordered. “Prepare rooms, meals, and anything else they might need. Treat them as you would treat kings.”

The maids bowed in perfect synchronization.

“And if you require anything, Lord Azel,” Crono added with a dramatic sweep of his arm, “do not hesitate to ask!”

With that, he turned and glided up the stairs like a man walking on stage after a grand performance.

Azel sighed quietly. ‘He’s like a peacock.’

“You need to freshen up,” Naelia said, wrinkling her nose as she leaned close. “You stink.”

Azel blinked and raised an arm, sniffing under his sleeve. “It doesn’t smell that bad,” he muttered.

Naelia tilted her head and smirked. “Take a nice long shower.”

‘ the Winter Region,’ Azel thought dryly, ‘this would be called man smell.’

The maid standing at Azel’s side bowed politely. “If I may, my lady, I’d like to lead Master Azel to his room now.”

Naelia waved a hand. “Go ahead. Make sure he gets a proper bath.”

The maid nodded and gestured for Azel to follow.

…

‘Finally, peace and quiet,’ Azel thought as he stood under the shower, letting the warm water fall over his broad shoulders.

The steam curled around him, soothing his muscles and he had to admit… he really needed a bath, he felt much more calmer now.

He glanced down at his stomach, his six-pack sharply defined under the falling water.

‘Sometimes I still find it hard to believe that this is all real.’

The power, the strength, the new life he was living… it had to be a dream of some sort.

He closed his eyes, letting the water drown out the world.

Right now he had two days.

Two days of well-deserved rest, lounging in his quarters, and spending time with the heroines.

Then, he’d set go to Lycas with Ravik — it was time to terrorize the smug bastard who ruled these lands.

It really wasn’t a bad plan at all.

The creak of the bathroom door snapped him out of his thoughts.

Azel’s eyes flicked toward the sound, expecting the maid with his towel or a fresh set of clothes.

Instead, Ravik stood there, totally stark naked with his arms spread wide like some deranged prophet.

“My lord, I have come to bathe with you!” Ravik declared, his voice booming with reverence.

“Gay motherfucker!” Azel roared, his temper flaring like a struck match.

In a blink, he blurred across the tiled floor.

His foot connected with Ravik’s chest, sending the man stumbling backward through the doorway.

Azel slammed the door shut with a force that rattled the hinges. “Why would you want to bathe with another grown-ass man?”

Outside, Ravik’s laughter echoed. “Oh, come now, my lord! It’s tradition! Bonding in the baths, like the warriors of old!”

“Bonding, my ass!” Azel shouted back, leaning against the door as if Ravik might try to barge in again.

‘The audacity,’ Azel thought, shaking his head as he returned to the shower.

The warm water did little to ease his irritation at Ravik’s antics.

After a few minutes, he stepped out, finding the maid had left a plush towel by the door.

Wrapping it around his waist, he entered his room, it was a large luxurious one… literally more luxurious than anything he had ever been in.

The massive bed called out to him, promising a long, uninterrupted nap… exactly what he craved right now.

The door swung open without a knock, and Azel’s jaw tightened.

Naelia walked in, completely naked like Ravik and she looked very confident.

“Come on, let’s bathe together,” she said.

Azel averted his gaze.

“I already finished. Alone. Why would you need to bathe with me?”

“No need to act innocent, you bad man,” Naelia purred, grabbing his hand with surprising strength. “I’m going to wash you properly.”

He let her… what’s the worse that could happen?
