Endless Evolution: Last Star - Chapter 1446
Chapter 1446: Distant Spire
Adam’s victory over Menax soon became known not only in Izardo and at the Forgotten Mills but throughout the world, to every monster who saw Adam as a potential ally or enemy.
It is unknown whether this news will reach the Citadel and whether other Phantoms will learn of it in the future, but for Adam, it will forever be an achievement.
“Hah, who would have thought that in all my time in the Tarnished Lands, my most significant battle would occur at the end of the journey?” Adam smiled bitterly as he looked at the majestic spire in the distance.
It took him a long time, but he managed to reach the border of the Tarnished Lands, returning to the Dead Lands, to its farthest reaches, which had long ceased to be dangerous to him.
As soon as he came within sight of the spire, a fighter jet flew out from the top to pick him up.
However, despite the fact that Silvana had received all the necessary information a few minutes ago, Adam did not react. He just kept walking forward.
“Adam, maybe you should accept their help?” Silvana asked with a concerned voice.
“Their help? Hah, I’ve been walking through an empty canyon for several hours, I’ve walked dozens of kilometers, and they think I can’t make it to the spire?”
Silvana rolled her eyes. “Maybe you should walk to the Citadel then?”
Adam shook his head.
“Nah, in that case, it’ll take me several days. I’m against it, because that would mean I’d see you a few days later.”
Silvana wanted to say something in response, but fell silent as her cheeks flushed.
“You… F-Fool!”
“Hahaha, get ready. After what I saw at the Tarnished Lands, I’m going to take a good rest. I’ve had enough of monsters, hybrids, talented assassins, and strange maids who can cook delicious food. It’s time to go home!” Adam waved his hand.
Although he did not accept help from the spire, the fighter jet hovered above him, accompanying him to the entrance.
At the base of each spire, there are gates on both sides, so as soon as Adam got close enough, the gates began to move.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
With a tremble, two heavy steel slabs opened, revealing a tall figure behind them.
A woman in a white coat greeted him. Like all the leaders of the spires, she was one of the Touched Humans, and therefore a member of the Gamma Division.
She, too, had once gone through her trials to become stronger, but she would never reach the level of Phantom before her.
“Adam Vinter! We have received information that you are returning to the Citadel after several months of absence! We will be happy to help you with everything you need!” The woman exclaimed, standing up straight like the military personnel she was.
He turned around, watching as the gates slowly closed, hiding the recently risen sun.
“Well, I would like to say that I want to teleport to the Citadel immediately, but I am clearly not in that state right now. Do you have a free room where I can sleep, right?”
The woman nodded deeply. She was experienced enough to understand that Adam was now at less than 10% of his strength. To defeat Menax, he had spent everything he had, and his opponent had done the same.
“Sure, every spire has everything you need for effective rest. We can easily provide you with silence, a soft bed, and a large selection of food so that you can recover faster.”
“Great…” Adam yawned. “That’s what I need right now…”
…
Crackle.
The door opened as Adam entered.
The spires were not luxury hotels, so the room had a simple white and gray interior with a large bed and a table against the wall.
Considering that Adam wanted only one thing right now—to sleep—these conditions were close to ideal.
“Good night…” Silvana murmured softly.
“Hah, I hope I wake up soon. I’m tired, but I haven’t suffered any critical injuries… It would be bad if I slept for several weeks…”
All the way along the canyon, Adam had resisted the darkness that was trying to plunge him into sleep, but now that he had stopped resisting and fallen onto the bed, nothing stood in the way of the darkness.
Adam did not regret the time he spent in the Tarnished Lands. He had achieved a lot and become much stronger, but he could not stay in Izardo any longer.
Every place he visited had a purpose, and for him, it turned out to be more effective than all his other journeys.
He had passed through several territories and regions, fought many battles, made many new acquaintances, and completely created the Second Grand Star.
In his battle against Menax, there was no need for evolution, but now he understood that only the strongest Black Threat Monsters could pose a threat to him.
Perhaps it was still too early for him to face the Lords, but with one or two more evolutions, even the Lesser Lords would be no match for him.
However… To reach that level, he needed to take a few more steps. The Phantoms became significantly stronger with each evolution, which changed their path, but it was much easier for a monster to do so. He always had to remember that.
Click.
Silvana took off her headphones as, for the first time in several hours, she had the opportunity to leave her desk and rest as well.
Although she could be close to Adam through her spectral form, it was not the same as standing next to him on the battlefield.
Still, Silvana was tired. She had been alone in the Citadel for several months, and all she could do was help Adam from a distance, watching him fight, learn, and suffer pain during attacks.
Thump.
She collapsed onto the bed and stared at the ceiling.
“Damn… Maybe a few months is fast for others, especially monsters, but for me it’s almost an eternity.”
Silvana rolled onto her side and hugged the pillow.
“I wish he would come back soon. Before we solve global problems, we need to make sure that other things are okay…”
