Endless Evolution: Last Star - Chapter 1443
Chapter 1443: Several Sighs
With each of Adam’s evolutions, Silvana became stronger as well. This applied to every part of his power, but Silvana, as his Operator, occupied a special place in the inner space.
She had her own energy that she completely controlled, and Adam tried not to use her energy unnecessarily. It was the right decision, because a situation like this could always happen.
To fight Menax, who had summoned the golden armor and spear, on equal terms, Adam needed to use the second form of his Stellar Nexus.
He could do this at any moment, but as with his previous Nexus, he needed more energy for a more powerful ability.
Up to this point, their fight had been evenly matched, with each having to use many abilities and all their trump cards, but Menax was different from Adam. He was a monster, and his energy reserves were much greater.
Menax had enough energy to maintain the golden armor after using all his abilities. If someone like Erada or, even more so, Beatra had been in his place, they would have been exhausted within a minute.
“Hmm?” Menax narrowed his eyes as he looked at Adam, who had put his staff forward. “What is he doing?”
When Silvana appeared next to Adam and cracks ran across the staff, Menax became alert. He realized that there was no more time to waste.
“I don’t know what you’re planning to do, but it won’t help you!” Menax exclaimed, pointing his spear at Adam.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
The spear trembled as three golden rings appeared at its tip. Each ring was slightly larger than the previous one, creating a funnel aimed directly at Adam.
Menax’s face contorted in pain as blood flowed from his eyes, but he continued to fill his weapon with energy.
Soon, a bright crystal-shaped fragment soared among the rings, gathering enough energy to destroy the hill to its very foundation.
“Let’s see how you block this!”
The fragment trembled as it burst forth in a compressed ray that sliced through the dark sky with a golden line.
In just a few moments, the fragment would reach Adam, and a devastating explosion would reduce him to ashes, ending their battle.
But…
Crack.
At that moment, Adam snapped his staff, dividing it into two equal parts. He did not break his weapon, for purple energy emerged from the two tips, forming sharp spikes.
Now, in his hands were two black rods, enveloped in white-purple energy, like a powerful flame running along the edges in a trembling vortex.
Without fear in his eyes, Adam stretched out his arm and waved one of the rods.
Some time ago, he had used a similar weapon as well. It was one of Lone Blaze’s abilities when he could summon the rods and raise the temperature during battle, heating the rods and threads.
It was a powerful ability, but Adam’s Stellar Nexus had a completely different purpose.
“Alright, that should be enough…” Adam’s voice rang out as the purple line turned into a portal right in the air.
Before the fragment could reach him, Adam bounced off his energy and disappeared into the portal.
Whoooooooosh!
The fragment flew through the spot where Adam had just been, reaching the ground in a heartbeat.
A bright flash covered the canyon as a wild tremor comparable to a powerful earthquake ran across the surface.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
The edges of the canyon cracked as heavy rocks broke off, rolling down the slope. Streams of light, golden flames filled everything from the bottom of the canyon to its peaks.
If the fragment had struck the surface, the pillar of flame would surely have reached the clouds among which Menax now hovered.
However, despite the fact that this attack was supposed to be the last, there was no joy on Menax’s face, only panic.
He looked around as his eyes searched for Adam.
‘Where is he? Where the hell is he? Where could he have disappeared to?!’
Tremble.
An almost imperceptible tremor in space sounded from above, but for Menax, it was enough. He spun around sharply, swinging his spear in advance. He knew it was Adam.
He wasn’t wrong.
SLASH!
The golden blade left a long cut on Adam’s shoulder, running along his ear.
But it didn’t matter anymore.
Thrust!
Two sharp points pierced Menax’s chest as his cold eyes met Menax’s shocked ones.
“This is what you wanted, r-right?” Adam’s hoarse voice rang out, blood flowing from his mouth. “We will fight to the last drop of blood, to the last bit of energy in our bodies to find out which of us is stronger.”
Menax clenched his teeth as Adam swung his right rod for the next attack.
“You’re damn right!” Menax roared as they crashed to the ground.
The dust cloud rose high, but a powerful gust of wind immediately dispersed it.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
One attack after another, Adam brought the black rods down on Menax. Purple specks flew in all directions with each of his attacks.
Menax tried to counterattack and defend himself, but Adam became faster with each strike. He knew his time was running out, so like Menax, he risked his life for victory.
Only one thing gave him confidence—only one of them would survive.
“GRH!!!!” Menax growled in pain as he swung his spear, leaving a wide gash on Adam’s chest.
With his hand, he threw Adam aside as they found themselves several meters apart.
“Agh… Agh… Agh…”
They were both breathing heavily as darkness threatened to engulf their vision and minds. Their strength was running out, but neither of them was going to give up. They would rather die because of their stubbornness and recklessness than at the hands of their enemy.
Step.
Menax stepped forward as his armor shattered into pieces, crumbling to the ground. He pulled his spear out of the ground and aimed it at Adam.
“One last attack, Adam, for both of us!”
With difficulty, Adam nodded. “S-Sure… There’s no other way. Just not in this fight.”
For a moment, their gazes turned cold as they both moved. Menax was about to pierce Adam with his spear, but… Adam, in turn, released the rods.
Menax’s eyes widened as the purple flame engulfed him and his frame disappeared.
Thrust.
As Menax took his next step, he felt a cold and dull, barely noticeable pain.
“Argh…?”
He looked down to see Adam’s hand entering his chest at the wrist. Adam’s palm pierced Menax’s heart, leaving him with only a few breaths left in this life.
