Chapter 1436: Golden Ray (Part 2)
Like any talent, whether from monsters or phantoms, Menax was quite young. He had lived in this world for only a few decades, far less than a hundred, and had not yet seen a single World Wipe.
Compared to Erada, he was a child, and compared to someone like Norax, he was a newborn baby, but Adam was in the same situation.
Sure, there was quite a big age difference between Menax and Adam, but considering that many monsters of their level lived for several hundred years, they were almost the same age as each other.
This was not surprising, as both Menax and Adam progressed quickly. This also meant that both of them had been through more battles.
In fact, Menax’s path had more victories and bloody battles than some Black Threat Monster that had lived for several hundred years. One of them chose the path of battles and victories, while the other quietly absorbed energy for many years, occasionally fighting when necessary.
So, Menax’s hands were covered in blood, both from other monsters and, of course, phantoms. He had killed many phantoms, he knew what they were capable of and how they fought, at all levels.
Even the K4-Level was no exception. He destroyed both the phantom and its operator, and their combined abilities were no obstacle for him.
Well, Menax had never fought against a stellar phantom before. He didn’t know what someone like Adam and his operator were capable of.
SLASH!
An invisible blade swept through the golden arms, cutting them in two and slicing through the wind currents on its way to a shocked Menax.
‘What the…?’
Menax’s pupils narrowed as he jumped aside at the last moment. The Imaginary Cut swept past him on the left, leaving a short cut on his cloak.
“So this is the power of your Operator?” Menax asked, towering over Adam. “Impressive. I didn’t expect anything other than your trump cards to damage the golden arms, still, it’s not enough!”
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
The space trembled as a golden aura burst forth from Menax in a powerful stream, like a wild flame.
Adam narrowed his eyes as he watched two dark hollows appear within Menax’s aura, then he saw the outline of a massive skull.
‘I see… So it’s a skeleton or something like that after all?’ Adam nodded internally. ‘For a skeleton, it has quite a lot of arms, but what is its skull capable of?’
Soon, Adam got the answer to his question.
The bright light contracted into a tiny orb when the golden skull opened its jaw.
In a heartbeat, a blinding ray burst out with a single purpose — to turn Adam into a handful of ashes.
The space trembled from the raging light, but instead of fear, it only brought a smirk to Adam’s face.
“What?” Menax frowned, expending enormous reserves of energy on this attack. “Why is he smiling? As far as I know, he shouldn’t have any way to stop this ray.”
Adam stepped forward as white gloves covered his hands.
With a burst of energy, a massive spear appeared in Adam’s hand, trembling with power. He knew that using multiple spears against Menax would be useless, as Menax would simply block each one with the golden arms, so he decided to put all his ability charge into one throw.
“Alright, let’s see whose explosion is stronger, yours or mine!” Adam exclaimed and threw the spear forward with all his might.
Whoooooooooosh.
The golden ray and white spear collided at a single point in the middle of the canyon. The golden and white streams of flame mixed, trying to suppress each other, but neither of them succeeded.
The wind currents spread in all directions, sweeping away from the battlefield and carrying away the rocks and sparse trees covering the canyon, raising waves of dust.
As a result, the golden skull closed its jaw and disappeared into Menax’s energy, while Adam’s white spear lost all its power.
Only a cloud of flames remained at the site of the explosion, which would dissipate in a few seconds, and their battle would continue.
Whoooooooosh.
At the same moment, something crossed the white and golden flame as Menax’s eyes widened.
At tremendous speed, the black thread, more like a giant arrow, headed towards him.
The black thread moved fast, too fast.
‘Fuck! I can’t make it!’ Menax exclaimed inwardly as all he could do was tilt his body.
Thrust!
The black thread whizzed past Menax, leaving a long cut on his cheek, as two streams of blood flowed down.
With the next gust of wind, the flame cloud dispersed as Adam saw Menax’s cold, cruel expression.
In response, Adam just smirked. He was glad to see such a look on his opponent’s face.
“Well, well, it seems someone couldn’t predict such a simple trick? I thought you watched my fight against Erada, just like half of Izardo.”
Menax clenched his fists in anger, but managed to control his emotions.
“Agh…”
He exhaled cold air and shook his head.
“Sure, I watched every one of your fights closely whenever I had the chance. I studied you, Adam Vinter. I’m used to doing whatever it takes to win. That’s why I’m here now, towering over you.”
Adam threw his head back in a mocking chuckle.
“For someone with such an arrogant look, you talk too much. Don’t you think so?”
Menax narrowed his eyes as the first drop of blood fell. He was confident of his victory, but he was the one who had received the first wound. Obviously, this was not what Menax wanted, he could not accept such an outcome.
“I see. Are you trying to provoke me?” Menax asked. “I want you to know that you will not succeed. You have expended more energy than I have, and now I am ready for your attacks, but you are not!”
At the same moment, a golden flame ran across the ground as more than a dozen golden arms appeared. None of them rushed to attack Adam.
Instead, the palms turned toward Adam as eyes opened on them and soon shone brightly.
Before Adam could figure out how to defend himself, the golden rays rained down on him like hail.
