Chapter 490: Ch-490:Framed
As soon as Wang Ming used Zhang Liang to kill Mei Mei, the people outside the establishment had already detected the murder.

The pedestrians who were walking and minding their own business immediately halted their footsteps and looked at the sky. Their expressions changed immediately as they saw huge letters written in blood-red form, with the word “MURDER” forming in the sky.

The crowd immediately reacted as they looked at the sky and at each other in disbelief.

“Heavens, when was the last time a murder happened in Golden Leaf City?” said a woman nervously.

“Not in the last few decades,” said another man, stunned.

“Damn, I just want to know who is bold enough to kill someone in the capital of the Black Bamboo Kingdom. This is the first time I’m seeing this, and I’ve been operating a business for a decade now,” said a shopkeeper, peeking out of his stall.

“Same, same. Whoever it is, his or her fate will be anything but good,” another person said with gleaming eyes.

“The royal guards should be arriving soon—oh, speak of the devil,” one person was about to continue speaking but stopped mid-sentence when his head snapped toward a certain direction. Not only him, but everyone was looking into the distance.

A dozen guards wearing black helmets and armor appeared, and one person wearing golden armor and a helmet also arrived with the group. The crowd fell silent as they could see the guards’ faces beneath their helmets, and they looked anything but pleasant. All of them wore grim and furious expressions.

“Damn, which bastard dares?” one of the soldiers frowned from the side, but the person in golden armor remained calm and did not change his expression, instead looking at the sky.

Soon, a red beam of light descended from the sky, and the guards frowned when they saw there was no killing intent behind it as it pointed toward a certain place.

“Let’s go,” the leader ordered, cursing in his head, “Which family’s bastard caused this mess?”

The leader growled when he sensed no killing intent from the beam. He instantly realized it was no ordinary person. If it were, lightning similar to Heavenly Lightning, though far less potent, would have descended upon the offender. This beam, however, was merely used for tracking a culprit, and only members of the Eight Great Families had this privilege, as their ancestors were the ones responsible for creating this city and the Black Bamboo Kingdom. Honestly, he was shocked at which reckless youth had done this. One could tell it was a youth because no one in the older generation would do this, and even among the younger generation, only idiots or the arrogant and delusional would dare.

Woosh! Woosh!

The guards immediately vanished from the place, and the crowd, which had been holding its breath, sighed and looked astonished.

As soon as the guards vanished, the crowd erupted into discussion.

“Hey, tell me if I’m wrong, but shouldn’t lightning have descended and obliterated the offender?” one of them asked in confusion.

“You’re not wrong. I also thought the same. Does anyone know what’s happening?” asked another person.

“You two must be new,” one of the women glanced at them and spoke. “Outsiders don’t know, but residents like me do. This beam is different and works as a tracker to locate the offender who committed murder in the city, and this happens in special cases.”

The men looked at her with a frown and asked, “Special cases?”

“Yes, it means the offender is from the Eight Great Families,” the woman said with a sigh.

“Tsk, special privilege,” both of the men said bitterly upon hearing this.

“Well, of course they will have privileges. Their ancestors built everything,” the woman said with a shrug.

—

The guards saw the beam of light shining upon a famous establishment and entered. They did not even glance at the panicked woman and went straight into the room where the light fell.

“!!!”

The woman who followed from behind and the guards all had their pupils sharply contract to the size of needles upon seeing the scene.

“Young Master Zhang,” the woman said with a look of disbelief. Hearing his name, Zhang Liang looked stiffly at the woman, and cold sweat dripped from his forehead.

In panic, he immediately pulled out the dagger, and blood splurted directly onto his face from Mei Mei’s neck. Her eyes dimmed as her life slipped from her body.

Thud

Her body fell to the ground, and the sound immediately snapped them out of their reverie.

The guards then looked at Zhang Liang with a hint of anger, and the leader wearing golden armor stepped forward and scrutinized him. “So it’s you, Zhang Liang, troublemaker.”

He looked at Zhang Liang with anger and disgust. He was very familiar with the recent conflict between the Zhang and Tang families and had often seen Zhang Liang cause trouble, but he had done nothing and had turned a blind eye as long as Zhang Liang did not cross the bottom line. But today…

“I heard rumors that he had a terrible temper and liked to play rough. She must have refused, and he killed her,” the guard concluded. A hint of murderous aura was directed at Zhang Liang, who turned pale.

“What? Let me explain—I did not kill her,” Zhang Liang said in panic.

“Oh, explain… don’t tell me you were toying with your dagger and she fell on it and died,” the guard asked, crossing his arms with a look of amusement. He didn’t care about Zhang Liang killing someone, but what made him angry was that Zhang Liang had broken the rules of the city, which was a slap to the Wu Family he was loyal to.

“…” Zhang Liang opened his mouth to explain, but no words escaped. Then a sudden thought struck him. “Could I have sleepwalked and killed her?”

“Well?” the guards asked.

“Maybe I sleepwalked and killed her,” Zhang Liang said in a serious voice. Before he could react, he saw a fist flying toward his head, and the next moment his vision was covered in darkness.
