Chapter 482: This battle is over!
“Father, you are hurt!”

Cirri called in worry, but Kael didn’t give in—

“I’ve seen worse.”

He answered, his eyes still flaring with determination.

In the end, he clenched his sword tightly again and—

With blood dripping from his arm and sparks lighting the sky above—

He jumped up.

The battle continued. More than a few minutes had passed since the Sky Kingdom soldiers had been fighting Kael. The ‘surprise’ factor Kael once held was now gone.

His tricks no longer stunned them or made them stare at each other without answers. Yes, he was still a difficult opponent to defeat, no doubt.

But…

The Sky Kingdom was one of the four strongest powers in all of Nerathis. Its soldiers weren’t like others; to join the Sky Army, these people had begun their training before they turned ten. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that they had dedicated their entire lives to this.

Combined with the abundance of resources the Sky Kingdom used to raise them, it wouldn’t be wrong to call these people… elites.

Even if they once fell like twigs, they didn’t despair—they learned, and within just a few minutes, they had come up with counter plans.

The Sky Army had the numbers advantage, and this was what they were going to use.

They had already understood how Kael ‘flew’ in the air, and while his movements were still unpredictable, some of the mages’ spells still connected.

So now, the Sky Mages had but a single goal—to intercept the enemy as the warriors got close.

And that was exactly what happened—

The spells slowed Kael, and the warriors surrounded him. The soldiers already knew he had mastered Sword Aura, but this wasn’t the first time they were fighting a Sword Master; they already had tactics to overwhelm Kael.

Even in close combat, Kael didn’t get many chances to ‘cut’ his enemies. The enemy warriors always maintained distance; only those with Weapon Auras of their own took his blows head-on, while the others ambushed him from different angles.

The worst part?

This wasn’t even all the Sky Army was doing. While the soldiers and the beasts surrounded and attacked Kael, each with their separate goals in mind,

They also used… artifacts.

Artifacts like the Tempest Shackles—binding chains formed from compressed winds, chains that wrapped themselves around his limbs, slowing his movements. These were especially frustrating to deal with because even when Kael destroyed them, they reformed and wrapped around him again, forcing him to use more strength and stamina to get rid of them, only for them to return.

And this wasn’t it—there were artifacts like the Halo of Judgement, an artifact used to suppress one’s aura, constantly weakening his Sword Aura. If he wasn’t careful, it could even lead to his sword getting cut into two by the enemy weapon masters.

There were also artifacts like Skybreaker Lance, Echo Prism, and others. Some affected the environment around him, creating wind storms that hindered his movements; some limited his vision, while others suppressed him with invisible weights he couldn’t understand where they came from.

Yes, it was overwhelming in every single way.

This obviously wasn’t Kael’s first time fighting more than one enemy, but unlike his previous battles, the enemies he was facing right now were… much more coordinated.

It wasn’t just about numbers—it was about roles—and every single person or beast played his or her role perfectly.

Plus, this was the first time Kael was under the suppression of multiple artifacts; he had no idea how to react to them.

The enemies did not give him time to even breathe, let alone take a step back and recover.

His body was trembling, his aura flickering nonstop—it was unknown whether it was because of the aura-suppressing artifacts or him getting tired.

But…

To Kael—

It did not matter.

Every time he was pushed back, he stepped forward again.

A blade grazed his side—he ignored it.

An arrow struck his shoulder—he pulled it out and kept fighting.

A spell exploded near his legs—he stumbled, then slashed the mage who cast it.

The battlefield had turned into hell.

Beasts crashed into the ground.

Bodies burned, fell, screamed, and vanished into dust.

And still, in the middle of all of it—Kael hovered in the air.

His chest rose and fell heavily, his skin cracked with wounds that healed and reopened again and again.

Cirri’s tired voice informed him of everything happening around him.

The glow in Vitaria’s eyes flickered constantly.

And even as hundreds of beings charged at him—

Kael lifted his sword one more time, and in a hoarse, quiet voice—

“Come then…”

He called out, his eyes showing unshakable resolve.

“Let’s see who lasts longer.”

This time, it wasn’t about fighting or them going back on their words—this time, he truly wanted to see how far he could push himself.

…

The battle continued.

The sky had turned red from fire, smoke, the glow of countless spells exploding mid-air, and… blood.

Kael’s breathing was even harsher now; every time he inhaled, it felt like it would be his last, while every exhale came out as a growl.

Clank Clank Clank

Steel met steel again and again, echoing through the empty plains below.

“Push him back! Don’t give him room to move!”

“He just teleported, it will take a while for him to do it again! Use this time! Press forward!”

“Bind his sword hand—stop it from moving!”

Orders flew one after another, shouted by captains and echoed by soldiers.

Each command hit Kael harder than the last—

Boom

A spell detonated beneath Kael’s feet, shaking the air platform Cirri had made for him. A chain of wind whipped around his leg, tugging him mid-slash. Arrows flashed past his face, forcing him to shift his stance.

Kael barely managed to break free from this, but just then—another wave of magic slowed him down again.

Still, he didn’t fall.

He continued moving like a cornered beast, prepared to give his all, his eyes flaring with strong fighting spirit.

Blood dripped from his chin; his shoulder was pierced, his back was burned, his ribs were cracked—they were all healing at the same time, yes, but even his healing had slowed down.

He just clenched his sword tightly, his blade still shining with aura, but then—

“Father! Left!”

Cirri warned in panic, but it was too late.

Fwwwooosh

A blast of compressed wind struck him from the left, sending him tumbling backward mid-air. Cirri reacted instantly, creating three more wind steps for him to land on.

Kael twisted, touched one with his boot, and launched forward again, slicing through the mage who had cast the spell.

But even as he did—

More orders came.

“Don’t let him recover!”

“Rotate the mages in pairs! Keep firing in sequence!”

“Shield the healers! Bring the Halo of Judgement closer! Suppress his aura!”

“Warriors, focus on his non-vital points! Keep him distracted until the Shackles reform! We must capture him alive!”

Kael gritted his teeth as another chain lashed around his waist, pulling him back.

He cut it with ease—but the split second of delay was enough for a lightning spear to crash into his side.

“Aagghh!”

He groaned in pain, blood coming out of his mouth because of all the internal damage he had taken. His body convulsed mid-air, muscles twitching as the current ran through him.

He barely blocked the next strike that followed.

“FATHER!”

Cirri’s panicked voice reached him.

“I’m fine!”

Kael shouted back in a low, rough voice, the look in his eyes hadn’t changed even now.

About ten meters away, a few mages sat on top of their Bonds, continuously firing spells at Kael.

“See? He’s… not as scary as we first thought.”

One of them muttered, trying to calm his trembling hands as he prepared another spell.

“When the battle started, I thought he was some kind of monster. But now that we’ve seen how he moves, it’s… manageable.”

He laughed lightly.

“Manageable?”

The mage beside him let out a humorless chuckle, not even looking at him.

“We are using a hundred men to suppress one.”

He adjusted his aim, sending another lightning arrow through the air.

“Even the twenty soldiers who were supposed to stay on watch returned to join the fight.”

Finally, he turned his tired eyes toward his partner and—

“If you call this manageable…

I don’t know what to say to you.”

The first mage looked down, unable to say anything, but the other continued after a pause—his tone changing, quieter this time.

“Look at him.”

He gestured toward the battlefield.

The first mage did.

There, in the clouds, Kael—with his clothes torn, bruises all over his body, blood covering him, and chains restricting his movements—hovered, his eyes shining ferociously as he continued swinging his weapon.

“Even against all odds, he’s still moving.”

The mage spoke.

“And do not forget—it has only been a few months since that man came to our world. For us, the so-called elites, to surround a child like we are chasing a beast… it’s nothing manageable, it’s humiliating.”

“Fuck! What are you acting all high and mighty for!?”

Suddenly, the first mage snapped.

“You are standing right with me, doing the same thing you call humiliating! If you feel so bad, why don’t you stand with him!?

Help him out, why won’t you!?”

At those words, the mage momentarily turned silent, then… he lowered his head.

“Yes… I am no different from you…

…maybe I am even worse.”

He added in a soft voice.

The first mage, however, just dismissed his words and tone.

“It doesn’t matter what he is, what he has done, or how great he is! What matters is that we were told to capture him! And now that we have cornered him—that is exactly what we are going to do, and there is nothing you or he can do about it!

This battle is over!

Ove—!!”

“RRROOOOOOAAAAAAAAAARRRRRR!!”

Before the mage could complete, a deafening roar was heard.

It was Igni—and no, this roar didn’t reflect the dragon’s bravery or fighting spirit—it was filled with pain.

And Kael… heard it.
