Chapter 1257: Something Worth Fighting For
Lenavira’s long silver-blonde hair flowed behind her as she jumped lightly across the white marble floor. Her palms glowed with concentrated light essence—curved blades of radiance formed around her fingers, leaving trails of shimmering brilliance wherever she moved. Every step she took seemed gentle, but the pressure in her attacks was unmistakable.

Alice, on the other hand, countered with streaks of fiery crimson. She spun, kicked, and punched with blazing arcs of flame dancing around her body like the wings of a phoenix. Her movements held a sharp edge, fierce yet controlled, showing the discipline she had gained across countless battles.

But what stood out most—what Max noticed instantly—was that both of them were laughing.

Genuine laughter.

Not strained. Not nervous. Not forced.

Friendly. Warm. Alive.

They weren’t trying to overpower one another. They were enjoying the fight, pushing each other, testing each other’s strength as equals who trusted one another deeply.

Two friends who treated combat as a game rather than a conflict.

Lenavira narrowed her eyes playfully and flicked her wrist. A beam of soft golden light shot toward Alice like a focused comet.

Alice grinned, twisting her body mid-air. She slid under the beam and sent a tigertail whip of flame arching toward Lenavira. The flame curved gracefully, bright and untamed, and Lenavira countered by clapping her hands together—summoning a burst of radiant wind that scattered Alice’s flames into glowing sparks.

They shimmered around them like floating embers.

Alice laughed. “You’re getting better at this. I almost felt that one.”

Lenavira smiled gently. “You too. I thought your flames would melt my barrier this time.”

Alice puffed up her chest proudly. “Of course. I am stronger than before.”

Lenavira nodded, her eyes warm. “Yes. You are.”

Max watched them from the entrance for a moment, a faint smile growing on his lips. Seeing Lenavira awake and moving so freely, her curse gone and her spirit restored, filled a part of him with peace. And watching Alice laugh so openly—something she rarely did—made that peace settle deeper into his chest.

The two girls hadn’t noticed him yet.

They were too absorbed in their friendly spar. Fire and light danced together, merging and splitting as if celebrating their reunion.

Their energies didn’t clash harshly. They blended beautifully.

Alice lunged forward again, Lenavira sidestepped, the flames brushed past her shoulder, and the light around her flared like a blooming flower.

Max leaned against a pillar and allowed himself a soft exhale.

After the confrontation with Mark… after negotiations that could have killed them all… after a threat that still loomed over their world…

Seeing this simple, peaceful scene felt like a blessing.

A reminder that not everything in his life was chaos.

Some parts were still human.

Still warm.

Still worth protecting.

Max felt a genuine calm settle in his heart as he watched the two women in his life spar, laugh, and shine in the chamber lit by golden statues and ancestral runes.

Alice was the first to sense him. She turned mid-step, flames curling gently around her arms, and the moment her gaze met Max’s, her face lit up with a brightness that exceeded even her fire element.

Her eyes widened, her lips curved into a radiant smile, and her entire posture softened in an instant. It was the kind of reaction that came only from someone who had been waiting for him. Someone who felt her world settle the moment he appeared.

Lenavira noticed Alice’s sudden change and followed her gaze. When she saw Max standing there with that warm, familiar smile, her breath caught. Her golden irises softened and a gentle, almost ethereal glow appeared in her eyes.

Her light element responded unconsciously, shimmering faintly around her like a delicate halo. She looked both relieved and happy, almost as if some part of her had been waiting for this moment too.

“Max…” Alice whispered under her breath.

“Max…” Lenavira echoed more softly.

Max stepped away from the pillar with a relaxed smile. The tension of the earlier confrontation with Mark had faded from his features. His presence felt calm, steady, reassuring. And when he walked forward, both Alice and Lenavira straightened without realizing it, their smiles widening as if they couldn’t hide it even if they tried.

“Looks like you two are getting along well,” Max said with a smile that reached his eyes.

Alice dashed toward him first, and Max opened his arms without hesitation. She collided into his embrace, wrapping her arms tightly around him. Her warmth enveloped him instantly, her flames dimming to a gentle, comforting glow. She buried her face briefly against his chest, taking in his scent as if making sure he was real and safe.

Max chuckled softly and held her close.

But then Lenavira approached. She didn’t rush like Alice did, but the joy in her eyes was clear. She stepped forward almost hesitantly at first, though her steps quickened the closer she got. When she reached him, Max didn’t even wait—he extended an arm toward her as well.

She blinked in surprise.

Then her expression softened.

Very slowly, she leaned into him.

Max wrapped his other arm around her and pulled both women into a warm embrace.

For a brief moment, everything felt natural—effortless. A moment of pure connection between the three of them. Alice nestled comfortably against him while Lenavira rested lightly against his shoulder, her light aura washing over them like a soothing breeze.

But only a few seconds passed before Lenavira froze ever so slightly.

Her breath hitched.

Her eyes opened a little wider.

Reality hit her.

Her cheeks flushed with a soft pink glow, and her heart skipped a beat. She remembered—Alice was Max’s girlfriend. She wasn’t. Even though the bond between her and Max had grown stronger, even though something unspoken existed between them, there had been no declaration… no step taken… no clarity.

Suddenly, her thoughts tangled.

‘Should I be this close? Should I step back? What if Alice misunderstands?’

She shifted subtly, feeling a strange nervousness swirling in her chest. Her fingers tightened slightly before she slowly loosened her hold. Her expression, which had been open and joyful a moment ago, gained a hint of awkwardness as she took a half-step back, lowering her gaze for a second.

Alice noticed immediately.

She glanced at Lenavira with a soft smile—not angry, not jealous, not even surprised. She knew Lenavira well. She understood the awkwardness instantly. And she knew Max too well to be bothered by such a small moment.

Alice gently nudged Lenavira’s arm with her elbow, giving her a reassuring look.

Lenavira blinked up at her, her eyes widening slightly.

Alice smiled.

A real, understanding smile.

Max noticed the shift too, his gaze moving between the two women with a quiet amusement. He didn’t comment, didn’t make it awkward, didn’t step away. Instead, he placed a gentle hand on Lenavira’s shoulder, grounding her, reassuring her without saying a word.

Her awkwardness eased.

Her expression relaxed again—even if a faint blush remained.

The three of them stood together in the warm glow of ancestral lights, and for a moment it felt like a small family reunion. Alice beaming. Lenavira glowing. Max standing between them, the warmth of their presence softening something deep inside him.
