710: The World’s Corruption 710: The World’s Corruption “Lad, hold on!

These wee feet o’ mine can’t run that fast!” On a long, winding path shaped like a serpent coiling a mountain, Asmodeus led the party towards their latest mission.  The brilliant sky bloomed bright with sunlight; despite winter, it seemed the mainland enjoyed warmth and lacked the frigid cold of the northern continent.

When he bought a map from the local market a few months ago, thanks to his previous world and life.

Asmodeus finally understood this world’s shape more.  The mainland was massive, almost five times the size of the continent, which lingered not in the west or central hemisphere but closer to the north, much like the United Kingdom of Britain in his previous world.  Only not so tiny, instead its size could match the entirety of Western Europe, while the mainland resembled Russia, and the United States joined as one.  ‘No wonder there are hundreds of cities, and several kingdoms here…’ Asmodeus chewed on the squeaky bacon in his mouth.

He loved the jerky with salt, a syrup like maple and left to soak in crushed sweet apples for a week.

“How are you doing, Old Man?

Just keep running.

I’ll buy the beer once we arrive!” “Hmph!” The party moved slowly because of the lingering mist that returned every thirty minutes.  “Kyaaa!” On his back, the tiny Vivi spread her arms, shouting and screaming, sometimes playing silly little tricks, pulling his hair or pinching Asmodeus’s neck with her small fingers.

From the moment he saved her, his position seemed closer to a brother than a father.

But after a month, she now relied on Nerim like a sister, and Asmodeus was the harsh, evil father.

“Vivi, behave.”  Nerim’s soft feet tapped the ground like a fairy, her magic and aura now freely swirling around her body like a beautiful watery veil.

The heat, cold and poor situations caused by travelling no longer affected her.  ‘To think that dry skin was so dangerous…’  Asmodeus remembered when Nerim’s gills became infected because of the dirty air near the Iron Maw, causing her to lose the thin, sticky layer of fluids that kept her gills, skin and scales fresh outside of the water.  “Foolish boy!

Don’t think this dwarf only likes alcohol, Hmph!”  “Father, do you need me to help carry your things?” Thorim’s growth since he was saved couldn’t be ignored; thanks to Asmodeus teasing him, his confidence exploded.

A maiden even tried to seduce him during their stay in Francel.

‘A shame his stupid father ruined it…

hahaha.’ This made Asmodeus conscious of a child’s mind once again, and so he swore never to ruin his son’s good deeds in the future.

Logan was to blame, carrying two huge sacks on his back, larger than his body.

After meeting the blacksmith in Francel, he realised it wasn’t yet time to put down the hammer.

Asmodeus didn’t know the details, but Logan mentioned something about a special core known to exist inside a volcano somewhere in the east.  This mission was related to that mission, the reward was high, and it travelled along the trail of the slavers which carried Brando’s crew and the other women that Nerim knew.  “Is everything alright?”  “I’m fine.”  Nerim’s nature switched like a light bulb.

When alone, she would joke, tease and get embarrassed at the simplest jokes.

But when outside, she became sullen, cold and remained soft no matter how much he pushed her buttons.

Unless the others were gone.

Usually, she would get her revenge when the others slept…

“What’s up?” She asked, glancing at Asmodeus with her ocean-blue eyes.  Sometimes he found the colour of her eyes too captivating.

“I just wondered if you’re trying to seduce me like this, I am a good honest boy.” “….What?”  Ever since he became comfortable around the group, Asmodeus also began acting like he did in the past.

Not the god, emperor or leader that everyone expected of him in the west, but just Ryuji Vincenzo, who just enjoyed flirting, fighting and fuc…Ahem!

[You really like this fishy girl…

I can’t help but feel jealous!] ‘Shhh, baby, you know you are my wife, my empress.

Don’t be jealous.’  [Mm….

so you know?] Serena also lost more battles ever since she began managing the empire alone; somehow, he found teasing her like this more fun than the previous serious exchange between them.

It no longer felt like a chore or duty, but…

something he did for fun.

‘I see you tonight, let me reward you.’ [Fufufu, you just want to do naughty things and make more kids!] ‘Well…’ “Who would seduce you?

Are you neurotic?” Nerim’s scales bloomed bright blue along with her pink cheeks as she puffed hot air and turned away.

Obviously, this wasn’t her battle to win, yet she still came back and always tried to seduce him with her long, tanned legs…

sneaking into his bed and camp each night despite being a good, pure girl.

“Stop fighting, you know that I am right.”  He immediately took advantage of her movements.

Unable to stop as they were jogging up the mountain path, she slipped and fell into his arms.

The spear tied to her back was useless against the advance of a demon god.  He hooked her shoulder and leg, carrying her like a princess.  “Here it comes again…”  Logan complained like a bitter old man.

He shook his head while jogging along.

This scene wasn’t foreign; in fact, he was curious why they hadn’t crossed the line.  “Wait, stop…

don’t touch there, the sun is still out!” Nerim scolded him, slapping his hand, which squeezed her soft bronze cheeks.

He couldn’t help feeling that her body was improving each day they spent together.

“It’s okay, I just touch it for now.”  “You!”  Vivi watched their interactions and shook her head, a little girl much wiser than her years.

She suffered each night with the current Nerim acting prim and shy, yet when the moon rose, everything reversed with the wolf becoming the pig, and the pig the wolf.  “Phew, okay, let’s focus…

can you feel that energy?”  Asmodeus’s face became serious, his eyes narrowed while watching the distant forest, with beautiful, blooming flowers of various colours.

But deep in the depths, he could sense something foul, dark and inhuman.

“Mm, but what is it?”  The two glanced at each other, with Asmodeus smirking at Nerim.

Impressed, she managed to sense the distance; this wasn’t an enemy close by, but rather more than a mile away.  “W-What’s going on, lad?” Logan couldn’t sense accurately, but his experience allowed him to ‘feel’ that something wasn’t quite right.

The animals became silent, and birds flocked from the west to the east under the blazing sunlight.

Zahir’s eyes narrowed.

“There’s a foul scent in the air.”  Thorim sadly lacked the detailed survival skills, but he was strong enough to survive as the puppet in the iron maw and carrying the blood of a dwarf, he had the chance to learn these skills along the path.  “I think it’s undead.” “Undead?” Nerim gasped.  “It cannae be!?

Undead…

we’ve not ‘ad undead for decades!” “Eh?” Asmodeus didn’t understand their shock…

on the continent, he fought against the god of death and his undead minions.

That meant that this monster type wasn’t rare or new, but somehow it didn’t appear on the mainland?

‘Why?’ Suddenly, Asmodeus noticed a discrepancy.  Maybe he noticed sooner, but ignored it.

Because the monsters he found, as usual, on the continent didn’t exist here in the mainland.

The monsters over here were natural, not formed by deformed and saturated mana but…

humanoid races.

Races tainted by magic as if something was protecting the land from evil.

[My dear husband, you’re almost on the mark…]  ‘Really?’ Once Serena spoke, he stopped rushing and focused on the distant rumble of disgusting mana.

The flavour of mana carried a light taste, or smell…

water was clear and refreshing, fire carried a spicy but comforting feeling.

This darkness wasn’t like the sweet and addictive demonic mana, but…

vile, rotten, the stench of forgotten fish.

“Urk, it’s vile.” Nerim covered her nose as her gills began to move more often.

She wrapped them in her passive water aura and started breathing like a fish.

It seemed the others couldn’t smell it yet.

Usually, corpses carried an overwhelmingly sour and debilitating stench.

The undead here were no different, and being able to smell even their mana was clearly evil.

Asmodeus lowered Nerim from his arms and gripped the air.

He pushed Vivi into Thorim’s arms while gripping Blood Reaper.  “This might not be a straightforward mission after all…”  Their mission was to deliver a special ore to the village atop the mountain where a famed blacksmith awaited.

This blacksmith would then spend a week teaching Logan and Thorim as a reward.  “Ack lad…

this stinks…” “Evil!” Zahir grasped his upgraded curved blades, with his hips lowered.

“It looks like we’re gonna fight.” “Asmodeus, their mana is affecting my magic!” Nerim’s flowing water slowed, the graceful veils of water became sluggish and slowly the water turned black, as decay and disease spread through them.  Even the surrounding treeline slowly faded; the colours once brilliant and vivid slowly bled into a grey zone lacking saturation.

“Something has noticed us…” Asmodeus poured mana into his eyes and scanned the area.

“Everyone, prepare for combat!”
