690: The Divine Palace of Purity 690: The Divine Palace of Purity In a pristine room filled with golden furniture and pure white walls, seven large humanoids sat in silence around a black rectangular table made of stone.

A female sat in the head seat, her eyes half closed as she faced a gigantic arched door. The five figures all resembled each other, with a number carved into each of their porcelain-like bodies.

Ein, who sat in the largest seat, tapped the table and finally spoke out to the other almost identical five arbiters.

“What news of our master?” “Lady Ein, we have received no orders from the master.” Another female answered with a monotone voice.

The number carved into her arm and seat was five.

“Funf…”  The Arbiter in the fifth seat differed from the others.

Normally, they lacked emotion and human expression.

But she was like a sculpted doll, resembling the most beautiful of maidens, with long, luscious hair and gleaming eyes.

“What of that disgusting filth?

When can we destroy them?” Zwei, the huge Arbiter with no hair, ground his teeth.

The cracks from his battle against Asmodeus remained as a sort of reminder of his loss.  ‘This fool!

Why can’t he forget that demon!?’  In the centre of the table, a map with countless flashing lights of various colours appeared.

Ein examined the map, tracing across the demon empire and continent.

Her fingertip lingered on the huge black mass south of the empire before shifting her gaze to the mainland.  ‘The gateway of the abyss…’ She thought quietly while moving her finger as if searching for something.

That’s when the small male in the third seat suddenly spoke up.  “Our Master mentioned that soon those gates will open and the world will face judgment.” “Is that true, Drei?” Zwei and Funf both asked at the same time.

“Yes, the reason he pulled you both back is because the seal on the abyss weakened during your fight.” Drei’s golden hair fluttered as if a gentle breeze enveloped his body, but he appeared to have more emotions than Ein or Zwei.

The five Arbiters normally controlled and watched over a single part of the continent.  “It seems that the age of peace is over.” Vier, a mysterious man with a scholarly feel, an Arbiter who wore spectacles and a half cape.

“Look, the abyss in several locations has begun its awakening.

That man has broken the balance.” Funf’s eyes glowed with a faint pink light.

“Man, which man?” She curled her lips into a seductive curve of glossy red.  Ein clenched her fists, although her power surpassed the others.

None of them held command over the other, as the creator would decide everything.

‘It’s that damned emperor’s fault…’ Her mind lingered on that fateful day, the day she failed for the first time and received punishment.

Punishment.

To an Arbiter, this might be akin to a human’s death, their bodies torn apart, reconstructed repeatedly until any errors or corruption vanished.

‘Then why can I not forget his face, his aura and…’  She bit her lip and lowered her gaze, a red hue tainting her pure white cheeks.

The defined muscles, the way his throat swallowed down the blood pooling in his mouth.

Desperate to appear strong and able to fight them off…  ‘Why is my chest so hot…

do I need tuning!?’ “Ein.” Her finger tapped a single dot that drifted across the mainland, close to the trade city of Francel…

She watched it in silence.

The world vanished, the beautiful white room vanished, even her fellow arbiters vanished as she gazed into the void.

The Arbiters were the blueprint for humans, supposed perfect beings that lacked the intense emotions and mistakes that happened when the creator made humans and the other races, but even the creator could make mistakes.

“Ein!”  ‘Asmodeus Vincenzo Lumeria…

a mortal that managed to wound us.’ She touched her cheek and took a deep breath, the tingling of his aura, her shock when he suddenly awakened and touched the divine realm. Ein’s chest thrummed with a violent ache, and a desire to fight, to face him once again burned deep in her abdomen.

“What did he do to me?” Her whisper echoed in the room as Zwei’s bellowing voice followed him, slamming the table.

“EIN!” “Hm?”  Ein glanced up at the four Arbiters, two of them looking at her with empty, cold gazes, but the fifth and second’s stares carried emotions, different from how they’d normally observe her.  A passionate and curious squint.

An aggressive and brooding glare.

“What is the issue, Zwei?” “Y-You, what is wrong…

No.

Why is your finger following that abomination?” “Eh?”  Ever since she fought against Asmodeus and his wives, something broke inside Ein, a strange and yet natural emotion.

Curiosity and the desire to see more.

‘I want to fight him, to see him grow.’ In all truth, if she wanted to kill him before their time ended, she had dozens of chances.

Her abilities and mastery of her magic far surpassed the young Demigod’s.

His domain, although powerful, was not without its drawbacks.

“No reason.”  ‘I cannot let them sense any instabilities.’  Despite being born and serving the same master, the Arbiters haven’t existed for long; only Ein remained of the original five.

These new Arbiters were each born after her previous comrades and brethren fought in the abyss and became corrupted.

‘Corruption…

is it so corrupt to feel emotions?’  Ein didn’t have the answer.  But she felt that if she continued to meet and fight with the self-proclaimed Demon God…  She would find the answer.

“Forget it, Zwei, Drei.

The little demon can wait, the issue is the guardian of the sea.

It’s been completely devoured by the Abyss and has awoken once again.” “That monster…”  “Kraken, a being created by master.” Funf muttered to herself while watching the huge black mass travelling through the ocean between the two continents.

“To defy our divine master and choose to assimilate with the filthy abyss!” Ein’s eyes still shifted to the smaller dot, the colours mixed into a brilliant light, red, black, gold and a faint trace of purple from the abyss.

‘He’s grown stronger.’ She thought, but the dot beside her, somehow brought a painful twitch to her chest.

‘Who is that, who carries such a deep bond with the abyss?’ She shook her head and recovered herself.  “Now, who will descend to investigate this issue?”  Her words reverberated off the walls as the other four Arbiters all glanced at the map and at each other.

To fight against the abyss and those who broke the order of the world was their reason for existing.

“I refuse,” Zwei spoke first, but his refusal was something rare.

“Eh, big guy don’t you usually love this?” Funf chuckled as she licked her lips.

“I don’t mind going down there, to descend it’s been decades for me.” “I’ll pass, since Funf wishes to deal with this troublesome matter.” Vier casually left the room after taking one last glance at Ein.

He bowed and vanished into the white walls.

‘…’ “I would prefer to examine the abyss in the empire.” Drei, the small male with two swords at his waist, glances at the small black dots hovering in the north.

His target was clearly the demon empire, without its master.

Ein wanted to accept this mission.

For Arbiters the there were two methods of action.

To descend in this manner meant taking a human form.

But the last time that Funf descended to the human realm…

she didn’t return for one hundred years and caused chaos.

“You better not cause any troubles like last time…”  “Of course~ Ein, you can trust me!” Funf winked at Ein, who was the last one remaining in the silent white room.

“I’ll go down quick, and solve all the issues.” She didn’t give Ein a chance to speak and vanished.

“…why can’t I trust her…”  Funf, the youngest of the Arbiters, no, this wasn’t why she was doubtful of her brethren…

It was the glance of the fifth.

She never stopped looking at the marking that Ein followed, the marker that she placed during their fight.  Asmodeus’s marker.

“I should descend too, just in case.” *** Meanwhile, after several days of travelling and visiting his wives at night, Asmodeus listened to the tale of an old queen from the mainland.  “There was once a beautiful woman, with looks that could charm the gods.

They say she appeared from nowhere like a goddess.

But as if by fate she met a young prince travelling the lands to prepare for his future as the king saw her.” Logan chugged his ale while telling the story of the ancient queen Medusa.

“Medusa, the queen of the damned.” Nerim huffed while peeking at Asmodeus, who listened to the tale with a bright smile on his face.

“What happened to that prince?” He’d been learning about the mainland, from Zahir’s tales of his gods and their unique powers and myths to the monarchs of the small, forgotten kingdoms.  “It is said that the monster queen Medusa used her charm and illusion magic to completely control the prince.

The poor man never touched his beloved queen, and became nothing but a puppet for her greedy desires.” ‘Seduction and Illusion…

A dangerous woman.’  Nerim coughed and then added.

“It’s rumoured she was actually a siren.” “Really?”  “Mm!”  Ever since they left the dungeon, and she told him about wanting revenge on a god, Asmodeus began to spend more time with Nerim.

He hadn’t told her of his true nature, but with their nightly talks…

caused her affection and attachment to sprout.

“Shall we have one more round, then head to our rooms?” “Aye!” Nerim and Zahir both nodded as the first night in the city of Francel began.
