685: Demon Or Abyssal?

685: Demon Or Abyssal?

Suddenly, a rush of searing pain spread through her body, and the world became dark.

Nerim’s heart slowed to a halt as she gasped for air.

It wasn’t until he saved her that she noticed how close to death she was.

‘W-What’s happening…’ Nerim tried to move her arms as a sharp pain gnawed at her muscles like something bit into her flesh and stopped her from moving.  Her heart pounded, a thick, powerful thump as she felt something pushing through her veins.

A painful, and yet strangely pleasant feeling as if something scraped the gunk from inside her body and forced it out through her gills and pores.  A thick, dirty layer oozed down her body thanks to the mucus from her gills, allowing her to breathe better in water and on land.

She watched the dungeon with lazy eyes, able to feel a strange bond towards Asmodeus, who fought the monster.  ‘Why does my body feel so hot?’  Nerim’s voice was hoarse, her nerves tingled, and that’s when something happened that confused her.

Asmodeus screamed as his body began to deform, his flesh filled with countless veins that bulged underneath his skin like hers had moments before.

His shadow grew large, like a living beast, as arms grew from its back.

Asmodeus remained locked in place, his pained groan echoing through the caverns.

What shocked her was the monster covered in purple veins, shrank, slowly revealing a young male, around her age with messy brown hair, a scar on his cheek and a nose like Logan’s.

The process felt slow, and each time she closed her eyes, it felt like hours had passed.

“My boy?” Logan’s voice trembled as the last of the tainted veins and metal dripped off the young man and wrapped around Asmodeus.

Logan instantly rushed towards the young man; he ignored Asmodeus and hugged him tight.

“Thorim!

It’s me!

Yer Dah!” The Celtic warrior’s voice rumbled through the cave with his emotions.

Thorim’s eyes slowly parted, a faint layer of dead skin cracking when they did, his father rushing to rub and clean it away.

It resembled when a deer or cow was born in the wild, and the mother licked the afterbirth and flesh off.  ‘We found him?’  Nerim’s chest tightened as her limbs filled with unexplained power.

Because she was a powerful warrior, she knew this power wasn’t natural or…

something within her changed.

The scent, the taste in the air and her senses had evolved.

The tingle of mana when she clenched her fists created a crackle in the air.  With just a thought, she could summon her ice.

However, when she looked up again after being able to shift her body, she watched Asmodeus.

Those purple veins and metal covered his body and handsome face, and pulsed and swallowed him whole.

Ba-Dump Ba-Dump Ba-Dump And yet, the low thud of his heart’s beating echoed through the chamber…

the monstrous shadow raged and extended countless limbs, but Asmodeus himself remained still, standing straight with both hands at his side.

Crack!

The metal covering his face cracked…  As if the shadow waited for that moment, it shrank and enveloped his body, devouring Asmodeus and turning him jet black like ink.

“R-Ryuiji…” She squeezed her throat, saying his name, but he didn’t react.

“Dad, it’s really you?

You came for me…?” Thorim’s broken, dry voice echoed as the two dwarves hugged tight.  “Of course, ya fool.

Why wouldn’ I?” Although Logan and Thorim were ignoring Asmodeus, she couldn’t get angry, but Nerim dragged herself off the stone.

‘Why?’ Her chest hurt.

She felt she had to move and get closer.

It was as if something connected them.

Although she found him attractive, it wasn’t that.

The emotion and feeling she had were more spiritual and magical.  Black and purple veins burrowed into his flesh, pumping something from the dungeon floor and walls into his body.

The low gurgle and squish echoed in Nerim’s mind.

It was so visceral that she could almost feel his pain.  When the tentacles pulsed, so did her muscles.  However, in her abdomen, a warmth spread…

burning the pain away, she could sense a strange power.

It was hot, light and felt comfortable just below her navel.

To those who didn’t know, a divine shard’s power was mystical and thus caused many humans and other races to worship the beings that gave them.

It was how the lesser gods gained power when they first came to this planet.

Squish!

The darkness enveloping Asmodeus suddenly pulsed, his figure growing and shrinking greatly, as it bubbled.

One by one, the tendrils piercing his flesh drooped and flopped to the ground, slowly turning to ash before touching it.

His legs shook as he took a single step.  Asmodeus’s head flicked back as more and more tendrils and veins slipped from his flesh…

the darkness still gripping his body tight before they all burned to ash.

‘What’s happening!?

Is he going to die?!!!’ Nerim’s heart bounced as if jumping from her throat as she saw Asmodeus drop to one knee, his arms dangling beside him, covered in bloody flesh.

The darkness around Asmodeus shuddered once, twice and then ruptured with a wet crack.

Asmodeus breathed in sharp bursts, steam rising from his skin as the black shell covering him tightened like a cocoon about to burst.

The tendrils that had been drilling into his flesh recoiled violently, snapping back into the floor like worms retreating into soil and with a sudden crack, which spread down his spine, Nerim froze.

It wasn’t his spine breaking, but the fleshy shell and corrupted flesh that peeled away.

A second crack followed by a third echoed as it collapsed like porcelain.

The black carapace split open down his back, and a sheet of dead flesh slid off him like a cast-off skin, hitting the floor with a wet slap before crumbling to soot.

Beneath it, Nerim saw something pale and yet beautiful…

it was almost luminous.

“Ryuji?” Nerim whispered.  His shoulders shook, the remaining black sludge and shell falling to dust as his nude body stood in the middle of the dark cavern.

Every piece that hit the ground crumbled instantly, as though the dungeon refused to hold any trace of it.

What emerged beneath was a pristine body, smooth, unmarred as if sculpted…

but it wasn’t human, at the very least she could tell from the faint black markings.

‘That’s the demonic language!?’ Dark veins pulsed under his beautiful skin, snaking like the ink in the marble walls.

He took deep breaths, with such force that she could hear his lungs swell, and each breath blew the remaining dead tissue off him in black flakes.

‘Woah…’ Her eyes lingered beneath his waist before shifting away with bright red cheeks.  All she could think was, everything about him was larger than life.

Asmodeus shifted, and the ground beneath him cracked.

That’s when the shadows that enveloped him surged around his shoulders.

Four tendrils burst from his back, long, covered in chitin plates.

They weren’t part of his flesh but grew from his shadow itself, rising like extensions of his will.

Each one hardened at the tip, forming jagged spears of blood.

Once again, the thud of his heart shook the dust from the ceiling.

Ba-dump.

Ba-dump.

Ba-dump.

His head slowly lifted, and his human disguise vanished.

He returned to his demonic form when he fought the Arbiters…

rather, his entire body now remained in a pseudo Abyssal Sovereign state after devouring the Abyssal blood and energy.

His form appeared complete.

Bright golden irises shimmered in the dark cavern as he glanced at Thorim and Logan, who cried and made noise.

He curled his lips into a calm grin, seeing that state, then flicked his head back to Zahir, who looked fine before finally looking at her.

“Ah!” She gasped.

His glance wasn’t any different from before.

It felt like he could see through her…

into her depths.

“Phew.” He exhaled with a low growl mixed in while flexing his fingers as if retraining and learning to move.

The last of the black shell fell away, and he turned to Nerim and lifted his feet slowly and carefully and approached her.

With each step, her chest pounded and her eyes widened at the sight, unable to look away, her scales bright blue and cheeks red.

“C-Clothes…” The moment she spoke, his eyes opened for a moment before he coughed and looked down, seeming to notice his current state for the first time.

He snapped his fingers.  A black shadow twisted around him, forming a skintight suit of demonic armour.

“Sorry, I didn’t notice.”  If any of his wives stood here, they would slap his back and call him a liar.

All of them now knew he enjoyed bragging about his body and cock.

Instead, he wanted to enjoy her naïve and new reaction.

“I kept my promise…” Asmodeus muttered to himself.

He watched Logan and Thorim in silence as the two slowly recovered from their stupor and chuckled when Logan’s teary face appeared the moment he turned around.

It was something he didn’t expect and was surprising.

After the chaos, suddenly the dungeon became quiet…

huge chunks of the silver mineral and ore lay behind where Thorim appeared.

‘Strange…’  But Nerim couldn’t sense the eerie and terrifying atmosphere anymore.

She just watched Asmodeus, who held out his palm, and a strange white, red and black flame appeared.

The outline was red with black flames inside, and a white flickering core inside.

“Is it over?”  Asmodeus looked back at her with a smile, but it quickly faded as he glanced towards the west.

Then he remained silent for a moment, the black veins writhing under his flesh, much like the ones under her skin.  “For now at least.”
