- Chapter 98 - 98 Chapter 98 I Named Myself
98: Chapter 98: I Named Myself 98: Chapter 98: I Named Myself She coughed quickly, forcing her expression to stay calm.
“Alright then,” she said, trying to sound composed.
“Lesson one: no kissing without consent.” He nodded obediently.
“Understood.” “Lesson two,” she continued.
“Don’t threaten to kill people I like.” “Even if they’re useless?” he asked innocently.
She pinched the bridge of her nose.
“Especially if they’re useless!” For a long moment, silence filled the cave.
Then unexpectedly… Xuan Long let out a faint huff, like a small laugh.
Su Qinglan blinked.
Wait… did he just laugh?
He looked down at her, his expression softening just a little.
“You’re strange,” he said.
“But I think I like it.” “You are the first person to teach me so many things.” Su Qinglan’s eyes widened slightly.
Her ears burned.
“Didn’t your mother or father teach you those things?” she murmured quietly.
But Xuan Long heard it and replied casually, “I don’t remember my father or mother.
They never existed in my life.” “Huh!” Now it was Su Qinglan’s turn to be stunned.
Didn’t remember mother and father?
Did something happen to them, or was he simply abandoned at a young age?
Even without her noticing, her eyes softened, and now she understood.
No wonder he was so awkward.
Maybe he had lived his entire life alone.
There was no one to teach him anything, and he didn’t even look like he had lived in a tribe.
Does that mean he had lived his entire life alone?
“Female, what are you thinking?” Xuan Long asked in a deep husky tone, and she didn’t even realize when he had come so close to her.
“My name is Su Qinglan, not female.” She decided to immediately change the topic.
She didn’t want him to remember his past, which might bring bad memories.
“My name is Xuan Long.
Xuan means mysterious… something deep and unfathomable, like the darkness beneath the abyss.
And Long means dragon, a creature of power and pride, born to rule the skies.” “Put together…” He smiled faintly, eyes glinting with quiet arrogance.
“It means the Mysterious Dragon, one who answers to no one but himself.” Su Qinglan’s mouth formed an O, and he chuckled at her silly expression.
“Is it good I named myself?” “Yes… yes it is so good.
I have never heard such a beautiful name,” Su Qinglan immediately praised him, but on the other side, her heart clenched for him when she heard that he had named himself.
“But no one has ever called me by my name.
Will you call me Qinglan?” he gently asked, with a hopeful smile.
Her heart stirred at his harmless and hopeful smile, and she said, “Xuan Long, will you bring me fruits?” she gently asked, mirroring his expression.
And Xuan Long’s eyes widened before he said, “I will bring it to you… you wait here,” he said, and immediately transformed into a big snake and slithered out of the cave.
Su Qinglan looked at his form, which was literally radiating joy, as he vanished from the cave entrance.
And she realized that even being powerful still cannot save you from the worst fate.
And in her opinion, being alone your entire life was worse than death itself.
Who could understand it better than her?
Was she not also alone for her entire life back in the apocalypse world?
After her father died, no one wanted to come closer to her, and those who did all had ulterior motives.
She had fallen into their tricks more than once.
After that, she simply stopped associating with anyone, living her life quietly.
And strangely, her luck was never worse when it came to surviving.
Even if everyone died, she would still survive.
It would not be a lie to say that it had helped her survive for so long when she was all alone.
*** Luo Chen landed back on the cliff just as the evening light began to fade.
His wings folded neatly behind him as his sharp eyes scanned the area.
But the moment he looked around, his entire body went still.
The entire area was empty, without any sign of life.
And the female was nowhere to be seen.
For a second, he just stood there, his feathers ruffling in disbelief.
Then, his yellow eyes narrowed dangerously.
“What… is this?” he muttered, his voice low, cold.
His gaze swept over the rocky ledge, and that was when he saw it.
A thick vine.
A vine that had no business growing there.
It twisted up from the edge of the cliff and went down.
Luo Chen’s expression darkened immediately.
“This… wasn’t here before.” He crouched, touching it with his talons, and the faint warmth that came from it made his feathers bristle.
“This is the same thing that protected the female before… against that ferocious beast.” His voice dripped with disbelief.
“What is this thing doing here?” His sharp eyes followed the vine down the cliffside, and his face turned darker by the second.
“Don’t tell me…” he said under his breath, with an angry expression.
He leaned forward, looking down from the high cliff, and sure enough, the vine dangled all the way to the forest below.
A vein throbbed in his temple.
“That bold little female… she actually dared to run away from me?” His wings flared open with a snap, and his face twisted into a mixture of anger and amusement.
“How daring,” he muttered coldly, a strange smile tugging at his lips.
“Truly bold.” Without another second wasted, he leapt off the cliff and dove straight down, his sharp wings cutting through the wind.
The air howled past him as he followed the line of the vine, faster and faster.
Soon, the ground rushed up to meet him.
But what he saw made his eyes narrow in irritation.
The vine didn’t reach the forest.
It ended halfway down the rocky mountain.
And below it, some stupid furry beast was gnawing on the end of the vine like it was a snack.
Luo Chen’s expression turned utterly black.
He swooped down and caught the furry beast in his claws, lifting it effortlessly into the air.
The creature squeaked and struggled, its tiny legs kicking helplessly.
“Speak!” Luo Chen barked, his voice low and dangerous.
“Did you see a female?
Tell me!” The little creature only squeaked louder, twisting in his grip, eyes full of fear.
Luo Chen’s patience snapped.
“Useless thing!” he hissed, his feathers puffing slightly in irritation.
“Why do all these creatures in this forest make such annoying noises?” He gave the small beast a little shake, but it only squealed more pitifully, making no sense at all.
Luo Chen’s yellow eyes darkened further; his patience had finally snapped.
With a swift, brutal motion, his talons clenched tighter around the furry beast.
The small creature’s squeaks turned into sharp, panicked cries, but they fell on deaf ears.
“No place for useless creatures,” he muttered coldly, his voice devoid of any mercy.
In one ruthless motion, he tightened his grip.
Bones cracked under the pressure, and the little beast went still.
Luo Chen dropped it to the ground without a second thought.
The lifeless body fell rapidly to the forest below.
He didn’t flinch.
His gaze returned immediately to the forest, scanning for any sign of the female.
“That’s what happens to those who get in my way,” he said quietly, almost to himself.
“Remember… no one survives my wrath if they cannot be of use.” His wings spread wide, casting a long shadow over the trees, and he took off again, moving silently and ruthlessly through the forest, leaving the small death behind him like it had never mattered.
