87: Chapter 87: The Brutal Drop 87: Chapter 87: The Brutal Drop Su Qinglan’s heart pounded, not from fear, but from a growing surge of absolute fury.
She was already wrestling with a splitting headache from pushing her power, and now she was being manhandled by a giant, rude bird.
She was so shocked when the owl-beastman spoke.
So it’s a beastman?
Not just a feral beast, but a sentient, speaking creature!
And one who had clearly masked his presence.
The sound of Luo Chen’s threatening voice finally broke her control.
Her usual calm composure cracked and was replaced by anger.
“You damned ugly beast, who the hell are you?
Rotten piece of shit!” A fierce, dangerous light flashed in Su Qinglan’s eyes.
The pain from her shoulders crashed over her.
The sharp talons were digging deeply into her flesh, and she could feel the warm, steady flow of blood down her back.
She was dizzy and weak from overexertion and was now being carried like a sack of grain.
This damn bird is holding me by my shoulder!
If she could see, she would punch this damn bird in the eye, but she clearly couldn’t even move, as she was literally dangling in the air without mercy.
“You ugly bastard, put me down!” Su Qinglan shouted back, her voice ringing out despite the wind rushing past her ears.
“I dare you!
If you don’t listen, you will give me a reason to shatter every bone in your ridiculous face!” She tries to get under the skin of this damn bird, but it didn’t even budge; she would rather let it drop her because she was one hundred percent sure she would cushion her fall.
But this rude bird was not even glancing at her.
She twisted fiercely, ignoring the agonizing pressure on her shoulder blade.
“Get me down, you bastard!
Or I will personally dig a hole in your brain and plant a pretty little flower in it!” This crazy beastman thinks he can just grab her and fly off?
Her mind was racing, trying to figure out a way to strike this high up.
Did he really think I was just a quiet, helpless female who would cry?
If he didn’t listen to her, then she has another plan too; she would pluck out all his features and make him bald.
He better not give her a chance.
Luo Chen’s grip faltered for a second, his wide eyes widening in disbelief at her language and her lack of fear.
He had expected screaming, maybe tears, but not this sharp-tongued female.
Is she really not afraid that if he dropped her, she would become a meat patty!
“You are a mere female!
You dare to threaten me?” He snarled, flying faster, trying to escape Hu Yan’s enraged roars below.
“I don’t just dare; I promise it!” Su Qinglan spat, using the moment of increased speed to try and whip a vine up, but the height was still too great.
“You’ve chosen the wrong day to kidnap.
Now, put me down, or you’re going to regret the day you hatched!” Down below, Hu Yan sprinted through the trees, leaping over beasts he couldn’t even see, his eyes tracking the dark shape in the sky.
“Hidden Trace Technique!” The realization hit him with the force of a physical blow.
The Owl Clan!
Only they possessed the ability to completely mask their presence, which was why he hadn’t detected the giant beastman until Su Qinglan screamed.
He roared her name again, his voice raw with fear and fury, chasing after the flying shadow as fast as his strong legs would allow.
The forest blurred around him, but still he didn’t slow down.
Because once he lost sight of the owl beastman, he would not be able to track him, no matter how good their technique was.
He felt so useless now; he could not even protect her and let her be actually snatched by a beastman under his nose.
“Lan…lan…don’t worry, I am coming,” he chanted this word in his mind and chased them all the way.
Luo Chen glanced down.
Hu Yan was still chasing them, refusing to give up.
Useless effort.
The owl beastman decided this had gone on long enough.
He needed distance now.
He pulled his wings taut, his massive body angling upward, and kicked into a terrifying burst of speed.
They shot straight toward the jagged, distant mountains.
He was depending entirely on the ancestral Hidden Trace Technique now; Hu Yan was chasing only by sight and the faint sound of wingbeats, but soon, even that would be lost.
Su Qinglan realized the change in speed.
They were leaving Hu Yan behind, and that was the last thing she wanted.
Not on my watch, you big idiot.
Ignoring the intense, grinding pain of the talons in her shoulders, she used her core strength to pull her torso up just a few inches.
Her hand shot out toward the thick feathers covering his stomach.
She grabbed a huge, messy handful, digging her fingers in and ripping with all her remaining strength.
Tear!
A cloud of dark, useless feathers instantly scattered behind them on the wind.
A sharp hiss of pure agony escaped Luo Chen.
He shuddered, nearly losing his grip for the second time.
“You evil female!
If you want to die a peaceful death, behave yourself!” he growled through clenched teeth.
Su Qinglan coughed out a laugh.
“A peaceful death?
Darling, I just wanted a souvenir!
And you look much better with a little less fluff.
Next time, I’m aiming for the eyes.
You better not give me a next time!” Luo Chen’s speed didn’t decrease.
If anything, the pain and pure hatred fueled his anger, and his wingbeats became stronger and faster.
He pushed the technique, ensuring the dense wind noise of his flight drowned out her irritating chatter.
But after that, whatever she tried to slow down his speed, he didn’t react, and soon she and Luo Chen shot across the sky like a dark arrow.
Soon, the familiar green forest was a blurry, mottled carpet far below, and the only things visible were the towering, gray mountain peaks.
Su Qinglan craned her neck, trying to find a flicker of gold, but Hu Yan was completely gone.
They had crossed mountain range after mountain range.
Finally, Luo Chen found his destination: a small, craggy ledge with a cave-like entrance high on the side of a massive, rocky cliff.
He didn’t gently land her.
He simply released his talons, and she dropped.
“‹Su Qinglan reacted instantly.
Even with the dizziness, she channeled the last dregs of her power to summon thick vines from the barren rock face just below her, cushioning the fall and absorbing the brunt of the impact.
“‹She still landed with a painful jolt, the shock traveling up her body, but she hadn’t slammed directly onto the stone.
Her eyes widened with absolute horror, however, as the thought flashed through her mind: If I hadn’t had my ability, I would have landed straight onto my stomach.
“‹A genuine, involuntary sound of fear escaped her lips.
She immediately curled in on herself on the cold rock, instinctively wrapping both arms around her abdomen in a fiercely protective embrace.
“Damn!
She would kill this unsightly huge bird.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Violet_Melody99 Creation is hard, cheer me up!
