Chapter 279: Chapter 279: Rong Ye is doomed!
Su Qinglan woke up feeling like she was floating on a cloud. Her body was humming with a deep, warm satisfaction that made her want to purr.
Every time she woke up after being pampered by her husbands, she felt like a different person…rested, stronger, and full of life. It was as if she were a little vixen who had finally found the perfect den.
A smug smile curled her lips as she realized her power had increased again. The fox’s “pampering” had definitely done wonders for her cultivation.
She lazily opened her eyes, expecting to see a certain purple-tip-haired fox grinning at her, but the space beside her was empty.
The bedding had been changed into fresh, soft furs, and she was wearing a clean, comfortable gown.
Where did Rong Ye go? she wondered. Looking toward the window, she saw the bright morning sun streaming in. She had slept for a very long time!
Her gaze landed on her stomach. It was becoming more and more round, looking like a giant, ripe melon.
It seemed the babies were almost ready to meet the world. She gently patted her bulging belly and whispered, “Good morning, babies. Come soon; Mommy is waiting for you.”
Almost immediately, she felt a strong thump against her palm, followed by another one. Her eyes turned into happy crescents. They were so energetic!
As she tried to sit up, her legs felt a little wobbly. She remembered the “dangerous” positions from the night before and blushed. I was a bit too enthusiastic yesterday, she thought, feeling a slight tremble in her knees.
But then she remembered what her system had told her.
In this beast world, human logic didn’t apply. Doing the “deed” during pregnancy actually helped the babies grow stronger.
A mother’s body couldn’t provide enough energy to a beast cub, so the essence from the beast husbands were actually a vital nutrient for the cubs.
“Fine,” she pouted to herself. “I’ll do it for the babies. But next time, I’m staying flat on the bed. No more kneeling!”
She finally gathered her strength and walked toward the hole in the floor. She didn’t want to wait for someone to carry her; she wanted to see everyone. She began to climb down the vine ladder, her movements a bit slow because of her heavy belly.
Downstairs, Han Jue was just walking in with a stone bowl filled with warm soup. He looked up and almost dropped the bowl in shock.
From the hole in the ceiling, two tender, slightly chubby little feet were peeking out, dangling in the air as they searched for the next rung of the ladder.
Then, a very large, round pregnant belly slowly emerged, swaying slightly as she descended.
Han Jue felt his blood rush to his head. The height of the ground floor was almost twice his height! If she slipped, the consequences would be unthinkable.
“Lan Lan!” he roared, his heart nearly stopping.
He dropped the bowl on the table and ran toward her like a streak of lightning. Su Qinglan heard him and looked down, waving one of her tiny paws at him with a bright, innocent smile. “Morning, Han Jue!”
Han Jue didn’t smile back. He felt like spanking this naughty female of his! He reached up, his large hands easily grabbing her waist, and plucked her off the ladder as if she were a stray kitten.
“What are you doing?!” he scolded, his voice thick with worry and anger. “Why are you climbing down alone? Do you know how high this is? What if you fell?”
Su Qinglan didn’t look scared at all. She immediately clung to his neck, burying her face in his shoulder to avoid his angry gaze. She knew that if she acted cute, he wouldn’t be able to stay mad for long.
“I missed you guys,” she mumbled into his neck, using her softest voice. “And the babies were hungry.”
Han Jue let out a long, frustrated sigh. He held her tightly in his arms, feeling the weight of her and the life inside her. His anger melted away, replaced by the overwhelming urge to protect her.
“You are going to be the death of me, Lan Lan,” he whispered, carrying her toward the table. “Stay still. If you want to move, you call us. Do you understand?”
Su Qinglan clung tightly to Han Jue’s neck, but as his large, strong hands instinctively gripped her buttocks to support her weight, she suddenly let out a sharp hiss of pain.
“Ouch! Careful!” she gasped, her body tensing in his arms.
Han Jue’s heart skipped a beat. He immediately became frantic with worry, his voice trembling. “What is it, Lan Lan? Did I hurt you? Did you twist something on that ladder?”
Su Qinglan looked at him with wide, watery eyes, her voice sounding incredibly pitiful and innocent. “Han Jue… my butt hurts. It hurts so much.”
While her tone was tragic, a sly, hidden smirk played on her lips that Han Jue was far too panicked to notice.
She knew exactly what she was doing. She hadn’t forgotten the “stinging” lessons from the fox last night.
If she couldn’t beat that shameless Rong Ye herself, she would certainly borrow Han Jue’s hand to do it for her!
Han Jue didn’t waste a second. He carefully set her down on the ground and turned her around, gently pulling her dress aside just enough to see her back. His breath hitched. There, on her tender skin, were big, angry red slap marks left by the fox.
The sight made Han Jue’s blood boil instantly. His eyes darkened with a terrifying level of rage.
He wanted to march straight outside, grab that white-haired fox by his scrawny neck, and beat him until he turned into a rug! How dare he treat their precious mate so roughly?
Su Qinglan felt the shift in the air and cheered internally.
Yes! Teach that naughty fox a lesson! She knew that if she hit Rong Ye, the shameless fox would probably just enjoy it and wag his tail.
But if Han Jue…the serious, heavy-handed wolf was the one doing the hitting, the fox would definitely shed a few real tears!
“He was so mean, Han Jue,” she whispered, adding fuel to the fire. “He even did it twice!”
Han Jue’s face was like a stone. He carefully picked her up again and carried her over to the soft bedding on the ground floor. He sat her down with extreme gentleness, as if she were made of the finest glass.
“Stay here,” he gritted out through clenched teeth. He stomped over to their medicine basket and brought back a cooling herbal salve.
As he began to apply the cold paste to her sore skin, he couldn’t stop cursing under his breath.
“That shameless low-life fox… no wonder you were screaming so much last night. If I had known he was being a hooligan, I would have dragged him down those stairs by his hair!”
Su Qinglan sat there, feeling the soothing cool of the medicine, and let out a satisfied sigh. Her plan was working perfectly.
Outside, in the pouring rain, Rong Ye was squatting by the over flowing river, humming a happy tune while he washed the beddings and their messy clothes from the night before.
He was feeling like the king of the world, his tail wagging and splashing the water behind him.
Suddenly, he let out a massive sneeze.
ACHOO!
He rubbed his nose, looking around in confusion. “Who is badmouthing me?” he wondered aloud, completely oblivious to the fact that Han Jue was currently planning to turn his fox ears into a headband.
“Must be that stinky snake being jealous of my talent! Humph!”
Xuan Long: “…”
(Why was he always blamed? He didn’t know anything.)
