Chapter 261: Chapter 261: Hu Yan Is Furious!
Shi Feng stared down at the female in his arms. He had been watching her from a distance ever since she arrived at the eastern camp. She had a strange, magnetic aura that made it impossible for anyone to look away.
But he was truly shocked to learn that such a beautiful, delicate-looking female was actually the tribe’s witch doctor.
As he held her, his golden eyes flickered. He saw her beautiful face, and then his gaze dropped to her prominent baby bump.
For a split second, a flash of something complicated crossed his eyes…disappointment? Envy? He quickly masked it.
He hadn’t thought twice when the snake lunged. His body had moved on its own to protect her. Now, up close, his heart actually skipped a beat.
She was even more beautiful than he had imagined. Her skin was like cream, and her eyes were wide and bewildered, staring up at him as if he were a god.
Even though she told him to put her down, his arms subconsciously tightened. It felt strangely good to hold her.
Su Qinglan had her soft hands placed firmly on his muscular shoulders for support. Shi Feng was stunned. In the Lion Tribe, females were timid; none had ever touched him so boldly or looked him in the eye like this.
Su Qinglan: “…”
( “Boldly touch? You’re the one holding me six feet off the mud! If I don’t clutch your shoulders, I’m going to face-plant into the swamp!”)
The silence between them was thick and heavy, but it was shattered by a furious roar that seemed to shake the very trees.
“LET GO OF HER!”
Hu Yan came charging through the rain like a golden streak of lightning. He had finally finished his task and had been frantically looking for his mate. When he saw Su Qinglan being held by the “stinky lion king,” he nearly lost his mind.
Hu Yan didn’t hesitate. He lunged forward, his face twisted in a snarl, and snatched Su Qinglan out of Shi Feng’s arms with a protective tug. He immediately pulled her behind his back, shielding her with his body.
“Lan Lan! Are you okay? Did this beast bully you? Did he hurt you?” Hu Yan asked frantically, his hands roaming over her shoulders and arms to check for scratches.
Su Qinglan, finally standing on her own two feet, tried to calm him down. “I’m fine, Hu Yan! He actually saved me from a snake. I almost stepped on it.”
Hu Yan didn’t care about the snake. All he saw was another powerful male touching his female.
He turned his head, his eyes burning with a savage light as he met Shi Feng’s gaze. “You do not lay your hands on my mate, Lion!”
Shi Feng’s expression went from cold to icy. He had lived his whole life as a king. No one spoke to him this way. No one challenged him so lowly.
“I saved her life,” Shi Feng said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, low rumble. “Is this how your tribe shows gratitude? Perhaps you need to be taught some manners, Tiger.”
“Try it,” Hu Yan hissed.
The tension escalated instantly. The surrounding beastmen, both foxes and lions, scrambled back to give them space. This wasn’t just a small argument anymore; this was a clash of two top predators.
With a dual roar that ripped through the rainy sky, both men transformed at the same time.
Hu Yan shifted into his massive, orange-and-black striped tiger form. His fur bristled, and his claws dug deep into the mud, ready to pounce.
Across from him, Shi Feng exploded into his lion form…a giant, golden beast with a massive, flowing mane that made him look twice his size.
The tiger and the lion circled each other in the mud, growling so loudly the ground trembled.
Shi Feng was a Seven-Strip beastman, and while Hu Yan was only a Five-Strip, the tiger’s rage made him look just as deadly.
Shi Feng lunged first, a massive golden paw swiping the air with enough force to snap a tree trunk. Hu Yan dodged, hissing and baring his teeth, looking for a chance to sink his fangs into the lion’s neck.
“Stop it! Both of you, stop right now!” Su Qinglan screamed, standing right between the two giant beasts.
She looked at the tiger, then at the lion. “Hu Yan, he saved me! You lion man, he’s just being protective! If you two tear each other apart, who is going to build these houses and protect the females from the rain? Do you want to be warriors or just two stupid cats fighting over a ball of yarn?”
The two beasts froze. Hu Yan’s tail flicked irritably, and Shi Feng’s golden eyes narrowed at her. The silence was deafening as the rain poured down on them.
The standoff between the two giants was terrifying. Hu Yan’s fur was standing on end, and he didn’t want to back down at all.
Even though Su Qinglan was standing right there screaming at him, his primal instincts had taken over. He wanted to rip this golden lion apart for even breathing the same air as his mate.
The roar of the two high-level beastmen vibrated through the entire mountain region like a physical shockwave. Everyone…foxes, rabbits, and lions…immediately dropped what they were doing and ran toward the sound.
After all, the power of a Seven-Strip beastman like Shi Feng was nothing you could casually ignore. It felt like the air itself was getting heavy and hard to breathe.
Soon, a massive crowd had gathered. They found the Lion King and a furious Tiger in a deadlock, with a pregnant female frantically waving her arms in the middle.
Han Jue and Rong Ye, who had been on the other side of the camp, recognized Hu Yan’s specific roar of rage and came charging through the brush.
When they arrived and saw the scene, their eyes turned cold. They knew Hu Yan was usually the calmest of the group; if he was this angry, someone must have touched Su Qinglan.
Without even asking for an explanation, Han Jue shifted into his large, powerful wolf form, and Rong Ye transformed into his sleek fox form.
They stepped up beside Hu Yan, baring their teeth and growling at Shi Feng.
Seeing his brothers-in-arms arrive to back him up, Hu Yan let out another thunderous roar. The message was clear: if you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.
