Chapter 234: Chapter 234: A Stroll in the Rain
Su Qinglan stepped out of the treehouse, dusting her hands casually as if she had not just tied someone up like a dumpling and threatened them with death a moment ago.

The hide curtain behind her swung shut, and the cold ruthless expression she had been wearing instantly disappeared like it had never existed.

As soon as she saw Han Jue leaning lazily beside the tree trunk, arms crossed and expression calm like he was simply enjoying the breeze, her whole personality flipped.

She turned into that bubbly, cheerful girl again, the one who looked soft enough to melt in someone’s hands, and she practically skipped toward him before hooking her hand around his arm.

“Han Jue, did you get bored?” she said with a smile, leaning close to him and shaking his arm lightly.

“Do not worry, my mother is very good. Nothing happened at all.” She blinked her long eyelashes at him with that pitiful, innocent look that made her appear like the sweetest person in the whole tribe.

She even added a soft little whine to make herself look extra delicate, like she was completely harmless and the purest female alive.

Han Jue had to bite his tongue not to laugh out loud. The contrast was too much. He had heard thuds from inside. He had also seen her earlier expression that could scare a grown orc into running for his life.

And now she was blinking those pretty eyes at him like a tiny fox pretending to be a fluffy rabbit.

He looked down at her clinging to him, her cheeks puffed slightly and her eyes shining, and he felt his heart soften so quickly he wondered if his bones had melted.

He thought, truly amazed, that his female was not only cute and beautiful but also a little fox spirit in disguise.

He had never seen this side of her before. This fake pitiful look she was giving him was so adorable that he almost leaned down right there and kissed her soft lips.

“How can someone be this cute?” he muttered under his breath without even realizing it.

But Su Qinglan was actually nervous inside. Her hand holding his arm was a bit tight because this was the first time she had shown her ruthless side in front of any of her males, even if he had not seen it directly.

She did not want to be seen as a bad female. She did not want to be judged or disliked.

In this world, females were supposed to be soft, gentle, kind, and fragile, and she was not always that. She could be soft and cute, yes, but she could also turn into someone extremely dangerous when pushed.

And she really did not want Han Jue or any of them to think she was evil or heartless. Losing her family was something she could not even imagine. That fear made her slightly anxious even though she was acting perfectly cheerful outside.

That was also why she did not let him enter the treehouse earlier. She did not want him to see the old hag tied up like a roll of meat, nor did she want him to see the expression she had while beating her.

She thought at least this way he might only hear some bits and pieces but not witness the full terrifying version of her.

Little did she know that Han Jue was actually enjoying himself outside the whole time. He had been smiling, trying not to laugh every time another thud echoed from inside.

He felt proud, even excited, because his female was actually so strong and fierce. But she had no idea about this at all.

So she did not want to dwell on it. Whatever he heard, she would just pretend nothing happened.

As long as he did not see that deadly face of hers, she felt she could still breathe normally. She tightened her hold on his arm and gave him another innocent blink.

“Han Jue,” she said sweetly, trying to act like the softest flower in the whole tribe, “let us go… let us stroll somewhere else…”

Han Jue’s eyes darkened the moment he looked at her pitiful pout. His throat warmed, and a strange heat rushed through his chest.

He really wanted to pinch her cheeks. And he did. His fingers grabbed her soft cheek, and she let out a little “O..!” that made something deep inside him shake like he had been struck by lightning.

Her expression, the cute sound, the way her lips puffed, all of it stabbed him right in the heart. He felt an uncontrollable urge to pick her up, run somewhere far, and hide her where only he could see her.

That thought hit him so suddenly his eyes lit up. Yes. That was a good idea. They were already strolling outside, so why not stroll a little further? Somewhere more private, somewhere he could hold her and stay close to her. His expression brightened even more, too obvious and too silly, but he could not hide it at all.

Su Qinglan stared at him, confused about why this male was smiling like a complete fool after pinching her cheeks.

She was ready to scold him playfully, maybe even smack his arm lightly, but before she could even open her mouth, Han Jue swept her up into his strong arms like she weighed nothing.

“Lan Lan, look,” he said, pretending to be calm but failing to hide his rising excitement, “the rain is so good today. Let us stroll somewhere outside the tribe. It will be nice.”

He spoke so casually, but his eyes were glowing like he had just won a treasure.

Su Qinglan had no idea what was going on inside his head, but she hummed softly because the idea was honestly good.

The rain outside was beautiful, the world looked washed clean, and strolling together felt romantic.

She wanted to enjoy a change of scenery anyway. Staying inside the treehouse all day was boring. Without doubting a thing, she nodded and leaned into him completely as they walked.

Soon they stepped out of the tribe area, not too far but just enough that only mist, mountains, and soft rain surrounded them.

When Han Jue gently put her down, the cool air brushed her cheeks. She looked at the slightly rainy mountain view, the distant trees covered in mist, and felt a peaceful wave inside her chest.

The whole world felt quiet and warm, like she and Han Jue were the only two people left.
