- Chapter 180 - 180 Chapter 180 A Hidden Grief
180: Chapter 180: A Hidden Grief 180: Chapter 180: A Hidden Grief The joyful chaos slowly subsided.
Liu Shan finally stopped crying and lifted her head, her face puffy but radiating immense happiness.
She was surrounded by smiling, congratulating females.
They were now meticulously planning how to take the best care of the three pregnant females: Bai Ling, Su Qinglan, and now Liu Shan.
The atmosphere in the clearing was warm and filled with hope.
But in the midst of the celebration, one female’s expression slowly changed.
Lin Muyu stood slightly apart from the excited group.
Her eyes, usually calm, were reddened with unshed tears.
She slowly rested her hand on her abdomen.
She remembered the feeling of her own lost baby.
She remembered the warmth of her beast husband, Wang Ren.
Not wanting to spoil the beautiful mood, she silently turned and left the group.
She walked quickly, unable to control the sudden, powerful rush of her emotions.
Su Qinglan immediately noticed Lin Muyu’s silent departure.
She saw the pain in her eyes.
She started to stand up, wanting to follow, but the excited females around her did not allow it.
They were still clinging to her, talking about the cubs, and wondering when they can be pregnant.
Su Qinglan could only sit there, her expression worried, watching Lin Muyu disappear into the trees.
Lin Muyu ran into the forest alone.
She found a deserted, quiet place deep among the dense trees before she finally let herself break down.
She sank to the ground, pulling her knees to her chest.
She clenched her abdomen, the empty space within feeling like a terrible, gaping wound.
She started to cry, the sobs racking her body, raw and uncontrolled.
“Babies, I missed you!” she wailed into the stillness of the forest.
“Wang Ren, I missed you too!
Why did you leave me?
I am so lonely!” The memories rushed back in one go of whom she had desperately tried to forget.
She remembered her beast husband, Wang Ren, who was so strong and kind.
They had been happily waiting for their cub.
They were simply walking in the forest one day, gathering medicinal flowers for her.
They were ambushed.
Evil Ferocious beasts had suddenly surrounded them.
Many of them.
Wang Ren fought like a true warrior.
He was fierce.
He killed many of the attackers, protecting her with his own body.
But there were too many.
Evil Ferocious beasts were bloodthirsty and even more dangerous when they saw a helpless female.
They had only one goal: to eat her.
The sight flashed in her mind: the claws, the blood, and the terrifying snarls.
Wang Ren had been killed while protecting her and their unborn cub.
They had killed her mate right in front of her eyes.
She would have died too.
At the very last moment, a figure had appeared.
It was Wang Ren’s brother, Wang Mo.
Wang Mo, covered in blood and rage, fought off the remaining beasts.
He had appeared just in time to save her life.
But Wang Ren and their cub were already gone.
Lin Muyu pressed her hands harder against her stomach, shaking with grief.
Her tears soaked the dry earth beneath her.
“I should have died with you, Wang Ren,” she whispered, her voice a raw rasp.
“You died for me!
I am so weak!
I couldn’t even keep our cub safe!
I couldn’t even protect your life!” She looked around the quiet forest.
It was desolate and empty.
Just like her heart.
She missed her mate’s large, comforting hands.
She missed the feeling of his fur against her skin at night.
She missed the easy laughter that used to fill her life.
Now, all that was left was the heavy, suffocating silence of loneliness.
Lin Muyu cried until her throat was raw.
Her sorrow was so deep and consuming that her breathing became ragged and hard gasps.
She was shaking violently, utterly exhausted by her grief.
Suddenly, a figure appeared from the dense canopy of trees.
Before she could even react, a strong set of arms instantly wrapped around her.
They lifted her gently off the cold ground and pulled her close, resting her against a powerful, warm chest.
She was instantly enveloped in warmth and a familiar, grounded scent of a strong muscular beastman.
Lin Muyu slowly opened her eyes.
They were burning and blurry with tears.
She focused, recognizing the strong jaw and the familiar worried intensity in his gaze.
It was Wang Mo.
Her expression instantly turned sour.
The overwhelming grief that was crushing her chest turned into a sharp, bitter anger.
She began to pound his chest with her small fists.
“Why did you not appear earlier?” She screamed, her voice hoarse and raw from weeping.
“If you had just arrived a little earlier!
If you had, maybe my Wang Ren would be alive right now!
He would not have died for me!” She hit his chest repeatedly, desperate to turn the internal agony into external pain.
“It’s your fault!” Wang Mo did not flinch or attempt to push her away.
He simply pulled her closer, locking her tightly against him.
He let her rage, her pain…burn itself out against his solid body.
“Stop, Muyu.
Stop, please,” he murmured, his voice deep and rough with suppressed emotion.
“I know you hurt.
Every day.
I know.
But you must stop blaming yourself, and you must stop blaming me.” He gently smoothed the messy hair back from her tear-streaked face.
“I was already running toward you.
I came as fast as a wolf can run.
If I had been even a minute earlier, I swear, I would have put myself between Wang Ren and those beasts.” “But you didn’t!” she choked out, the tears flowing faster now.
“He is gone!
And I am here!
I have nothing left!” She grasped the fur tunic on his chest, pulling it desperately.
“Wang Ren is gone, and so is our cub!
Our beautiful cub!
You should have saved them, Wang Mo!
You were stronger!” He tightened his arms, pulling her head to rest against the hollow of his neck.
“Don’t say that.
Don’t you ever say that.
If my brother was alive, he would never want you to be like this.
Do you think he would want to see you withered away with sadness?
He loved you too fiercely for that.” He paused, his voice softening with painful honesty.
“He wanted you to live.
That was his last command to me: protect her.
He died to give you a chance to be happy and safe, Muyu.
You are dishonoring his sacrifice by letting this grief consume you.” Wang Mo looked down at her fragile form.
He saw only the pain, but within his heart, the jealousy still throbbed.
She loved Wang Ren so much that she couldn’t move on and couldn’t even look at him, Wang Mo, the one who remained.
He was the one who was here, the one who was pursuing her, the one who loved her, maybe even before she had chosen his brother.
He gently wiped a tear from her cheek with his thumb.
“Please, just rest.
You are safe now.
I will not leave you.” The intense crying finally started to fade away, replaced by shuddering, quiet whimpers.
