163: Chapter 163: Lan Lan Is Angry!!
Su Qinglan was suddenly engulfed by his hot and demanding kiss.
She felt herself instantly melting, becoming a puddle in his arms, the feverish heat of his body overwhelming the cold water.
But a small, desperate part of her mind was still rational, screaming for air.
She pushed weakly against his drenched, muscular chest, a muffled sound escaping her throat.
Xuan Long immediately released her mouth when he felt her tiny struggle, his gaze fixing on her face with a sudden pitiful gaze.
Su Qinglan gasped, pulling in several deep, ragged breaths of air.
The cold air burned in her lungs.
She stared up at him, her eyes misty and wide with shock and intense concern.
“Xuan Long, you are not in your right mind!” She finally managed, her voice trembling slightly but laced with anger.
“You are so feverish… did the fever get to your brain?” She couldn’t believe his utter carelessness with his own health.
She glared at him, shivering fiercely from the cold water that soaked her to the bone.
“Get out of the water immediately!
You are only worsening your fever!” Xuan Long looked at her for a long moment, his eyes still hazy, the emerald color intense but soft with profound tenderness.
He parted his lips and sighed softly.
“Lan Lan,” he murmured, his voice husky, sounding like a man still half-asleep.
“Even in my dreams, you are so domineering.” Su Qinglan went utterly still, the lingering heat of his kiss giving way to a sudden anger.
She felt her left eye twitch uncontrollably.
What does he mean by dream?
The question echoed loudly in her head.
Did this snake really become stupid with fever?
He couldn’t even tell if she was real or not.
Was he just minutes ago kissing her ghost then?
She looked at him, speechless with disbelief and mounting rage.
His beautiful, hazy eyes were looking at her as if she were a precious, fragile illusion.
She realized she needed to bring him back to reality, and the thought was instant and primal.
Before he could speak another word, she lifted her hand and pinched his cheeks hard to bring him back to reality.
“Xuan Long,” she said, her voice sharp and dripping with sarcasm.
“Open your eyes and see.
I am real.
Su Qinglan!” Xuan Long hissed, a low sound, shock and pain escaping his throat as she pinched his cheeks brutally.
His emerald eyes widened, the haze instantly clearing as he stared at her furious expression.
He tightened his grip around her waist, instinctively holding her closer.
The shock of the pinch and the anger in her eyes finally broke through the feverish haze.
He finally realized.
Lan Lan was truly here.
But how could she be here?
When he first surfaced from the river, the mating fever had been so strong, all he could perceive was her image.
He had been convinced he was hallucinating, a victim of his own desperate need.
He never truly considered that the woman screaming at him, the one who had just ruthlessly pinched his cheeks, could be real.
The realization hit him like a blow.
He looked down at her, who was trembling uncontrollably from the cold river water, and the immense guilt was immediate and crushing.
“Lan Lan, I am so sorry,” he said quickly, his voice low and heavy with immediate regret.
“I was just confused moments ago.” He did not, however, offer any explanation for why his body was burning so hot.
He immediately cradled her body more securely in his arms, pulling her tighter against his chest to share his unnatural heat.
With a powerful, sudden thrust of his lower body, he shot them toward the bank.
He knew his female was cold.
Su Qinglan finally let out a long sigh of relief.
At least he was finally getting out of the water.
Just as he reached the grassy shore, she quickly pointed toward the damp earth.
“My bag!” He looked down at the small, forgotten bag.
His long, thick emerald tail, which was still slick with river water, uncoiled slightly and moved with quiet efficiency, scooping up the small bag from the grass and lifting it from the ground.
Without pausing, Xuan Long moved away from the river’s edge, gliding swiftly and purposefully into the dense forest.
He stopped only when they reached a small area, a temporary cave he had dug for himself to stay in seclusion for these few dangerous days.
He slowly put her down on the dry, cool stone bed inside the cave and looked at her, his expression full of guilt.
She was drenched from head to toe, her clothes plastered against her skin.
“Lan Lan, you will get sick,” he whispered, his own body still radiating a powerful, painful heat.
“I will make fire.” He had never made fire himself, but he knew he couldn’t allow his female to fall ill because of him.
He had seen Hu Yan making it countless times; it shouldn’t be a problem, right?
He looked around the entrance of the cave, his brow furrowed in fierce determination.
Su Qinglan’s relief was instantly replaced by a fresh wave of anger.
The man was burning with fever, practically delirious enough to kiss her ghost, yet he was still thinking about her comfort.
What nonsense is this?
She wouldn’t die just from touching water!
She marched toward him with purposeful strides and grabbed his arm, pulling him back toward a small, smooth stone bed.
She forced him to sit down on it, then glared down at him.
“But you have a fever!
You are more sick!” she exclaimed, the frustration evident in her voice.
She whirled around and snatched her small bag.
She opened it and rummaged through the contents, pretending to search for a towel.
But instead, she pulled a soft, clean cloth from her inventory and turned back to him.
She began wiping his face and drenched hair with forceful and angry strokes.
“How could you be so careless with yourself?” she muttered under her breath with a furious expression.
Xuan Long, surprised by her sudden aggression, sat rigid and motionless on the stone.
His heart fluttered even more intensely under her quick, gentle ministrations.
“Lan Lan, you are wet too,” he tried to protest as his eyes were filled with worry.
