- Chapter 157 - 157 Chapter 157 The Miserable Fox
157: Chapter 157: The Miserable Fox 157: Chapter 157: The Miserable Fox Su Mingxuan was still fuming, his arms crossed tightly over his chest.
His sharp eyes were scanning the clearing like a hawk looking for prey, and that prey’s name was Rong Ye.
He was just about to start muttering again when a soft cough echoed from behind them.
Everyone turned at once.
A tall figure was walking toward them, a little awkwardly, and when the sunlight touched his face, they all saw who it was.
Rong Ye.
The fox beastman froze mid-step as everyone’s gazes landed on him like arrows.
He blinked, his violet eyes darting left and right.
“…Why are you all staring at me like that?” he wanted to say, but before he could, he straightened his back quickly, trying to walk normally.
Unfortunately, the moment he did, his body stiffened, and a sharp hiss escaped his mouth.
And he starts limping again.
Su Qinglan’s eyes widened, and she rushed forward immediately.
“Rong Ye!
What happened?
Why are you limping?” she asked worriedly.
Behind her, Su Mingxuan’s eyes twitched dangerously.
He had been angry before, but now his anger was boiling again.
First, this lazy fox didn’t show up when his pregnant daughter was standing outside, and now he appears injured?
What did he even do this time?!
He took a big breath, ready to explode, but before he could open his mouth, Su Qinglan quickly turned back and gave him a bright, sweet smile, the kind of smile that made her father’s words instantly get stuck in his throat.
“Father,” she said gently, “don’t be angry.” Su Mingxuan froze mid-lecture, his face twitching again.
“Don’t be angry?
That fox…” But Su Qinglan had already turned toward Rong Ye, pretending to ignore her father’s burning glare.
She smiled softly at Rong Ye and said in a light tone, “Did you bring me those flowers?” Rong Ye blinked, confusion written all over his handsome but tired face.
“Flowers?” he repeated in his mind, tilting his head slightly like a puzzled fox.
“What flowers?
What is she talking about?
I didn’t…” Before he could say anything out loud, Su Qinglan stepped closer and pinched his abdomen hard.
Rong Ye almost screamed at the sudden pinch, and his violet eyes watered from pain.
He looked at her with a shocked expression as if asking, Why did she do that?
But she was smiling so sweetly that his heart almost jumped out of his chest.
Ah, this female… Why was she smiling like that while torturing him?
Was this some new technique he was not aware of?
His lips twitched, and he immediately nodded his head fast.
“Y-yes!” he said quickly, forcing a smile that looked more painful than friendly.
“I… I brought the flowers.” Su Qinglan turned back toward her father, her smile still perfectly calm.
“See, Father?” she said brightly.
“Rong Ye hasn’t been lazing around.
I sent him to bring something for me.” Su Mingxuan stared at the fox silently.
His expression was flat, but his eyes were sharp enough to pierce through him thousands of times.
The poor fox beastman gulped loudly; he did not have a single idea why the tribe leader was glaring at him.
Was he angry because he didn’t go on hunting?
Why… why did it feel like every time he met his female’s father, death was standing nearby?
He tried to stand straighter, but his leg hurt.
He tried to smile, but his ribs ached.
The more he tried to look normal, the more miserable he became.
Su Mingxuan’s gaze was heavy, like a mountain pressing on his shoulders.
Rong Ye forced out a weak laugh, his ears twitching nervously.
“H-Hehe… hello, Tribe Leader…” No one answered.
Even the wind seemed to stop blowing for a moment.
He swallowed again.
Inside his mind, he was screaming, What did I even do this time?
Why does everyone always look ready to beat him?
He glanced at Su Qinglan for help, but she only smiled sweetly again, the same smile that had caused him so much pain just moments ago.
He wanted to cry.
His body still ached from the last “lesson” Xuan Long had given him; the snake truly had no sense of mercy when it came to revenge.
Every rib, every bone screamed in protest whenever he moved.
Honestly, if they weren’t family, he was pretty sure he’d be fertilizer by now instead of lying here, plotting his next grand mischief.
But, well… at least after that thorough beating, he had successfully driven that scaly snake away.
That was something, right?
A smug grin crept across Rong Ye’s bruised face.
“Hah!
Serves you right, cold-blooded noodle,” he muttered to himself.
Because just imagine, what if that snake in heat managed to get Su Qinglan’s attention?
What if, beast god forbid, she couldn’t resist him and they actually mated?
No, no, no!
Absolutely unacceptable!
That would be the biggest tragedy in history…his tragedy!
He, Rong Ye, the noble and cunning fox, would never let such a thing happen.
He refused to let anyone cut in line…especially not a beastman who had slithered into the family barely two days ago and already managed to earn the female’s favor.
Two days!
And she was smiling at him!
“Hmph!” He puffed out his chest proudly, ignoring the fact that it hurt.
“As long as I, Rong Ye, am alive and fabulous, that won’t happen.
Let the snake rot in some dark, damp cave all alone.
I’ll be the one having fun with his female.” A wicked, self-satisfied smile spread over his face, the kind that could make small animals relocate out of pure instinct.
After all, he had successfully brainwashed that snake!
Yes, yes, that’s what happened!
The snake was strong, sure, but compared to him…
the brilliant, scheming, dangerously handsome, cunning fox…
he was nothing.
“Poor fool,” Rong Ye chuckled, “You may have scales, but I have brains.
And charm.
And style.” He paused dramatically, wincing as his bruises reminded him of reality.
He immediately snapped out of the daydreaming from intense pain.
His arms ached, his back felt like it was kicked by a bull, and now, thanks to Su Qinglan’s “gentle” pinch, his stomach hurt too.
Oh, but he liked the last pain; only if she could pinch him somewhere else.
