- Chapter 150 - 150 Chapter 150 The Warmth in Silence
150: Chapter 150: The Warmth in Silence 150: Chapter 150: The Warmth in Silence Su Qinglan sat on the stone bed, staring outside the cave.
Her eyes were half-open, calm but distant.
She hadn’t spoken a word since they returned.
Suddenly, a shadow moved beside her.
Xuan Long stepped closer, and, without saying anything, he wrapped his long arms around her from behind.
She blinked in surprise and looked up at him silently, as if asking what he was doing.
But he said nothing.
Instead, he gently lifted her up and settled her on his lap.
He guided her face to rest on his shoulder.
One hand patted her back; the other stroked her hair slowly.
“Are you sad?” he asked in a deep, quiet voice.
Su Qinglan shook her head slightly.
“No… I’m not.” But Xuan Long only smiled faintly.
His fingers lightly tickled her scalp as he kept petting her hair.
“You’re very silent,” he said softly.
“That means you’re sad.” She sighed, her voice low.
“I’m not sad… I just feel… strange.” Her fingers twisted in his clothes for a moment before she asked, almost in a whisper, “If a female really abandons a beastman… Will he really become a stray?
Even if he did nothing wrong?” Xuan Long went quiet for a while.
His emerald eyes darkened slightly as he thought.
Then he answered slowly, “Yes.
A beastman doesn’t have any other choice.
Once abandoned, the anger and pain inside him will eat away at his beast core.
Even if he tries to fight it, it will rot… And one day, he’ll lose his mind completely.
There’s no escape.” Su Qinglan listened silently.
Her eyes lowered.
“So… isn’t that cruel?” she murmured.
Xuan Long looked down at her.
“Cruel,” he agreed quietly.
“But that’s the law of our world.” She shook her head.
“I’m not thinking about Luo Chen.
I don’t pity him.
I just think… it’s too cruel.
A beastman’s whole life can be destroyed if a female abandons him.
Just because of one choice.” Her heart felt heavy.
She wasn’t really sad about Luo Chen’s death… She had seen too many deaths already, but this thought made her uneasy.
Her hand instinctively went to her stomach.
She was pregnant now.
She had a family here.
And a sudden fear crept into her heart.
What if something the same happens to her cubs one day?
What if they also face something like this?
“No…” she whispered and shook her head quickly.
“I won’t let anything like that happen.” Xuan Long heard her soft murmur and rubbed her back gently.
“Don’t think too much,” he said in his deep, soothing tone.
“You’re a good female.
You always worry for others.
But you have me.
You have your beastmen.
We’ll protect you.” He bent down and kissed her cheek, then the other side.
His voice turned low and tender.
“Sleep now.
You’ve been working hard all morning.
Don’t tire yourself.” Su Qinglan looked at him speechlessly, then gave a small smile.
“I’m not tired,” she said softly.
“Just… worried.” She lowered her gaze.
“Hu Yan… he looked so disappointed and angry.
After Luo Chen killed himself, I could see it.
He must have remembered how he and Father once saved Luo Chen.
They were even close before… almost like friends.
He must feel guilty.” Xuan Long nodded slowly.
“He needs time.” “Yes,” she agreed.
“He said he had something to take care of and left.
But I know he just couldn’t face anyone.
He feels responsible, even though he isn’t.” She sighed again.
“And Han Jue and Rong Ye still haven’t returned to the tribe either.
I wanted to go see them, but I don’t even have the strength today.
I just… feel so strange.” Her heart felt heavy.
She thought about Bai Lianhua too.
The tribe had already decided her punishment.
She would be sent to a lower tribe tomorrow as punishment.
They would actually sell her there.
It wasn’t the harshest punishment for a female, but it was enough.
She would lose all her status and comfort.
Su Qinglan didn’t want that white lotus troublemaker anywhere near her again.
She could have beaten her herself, but that would only make her look cruel in front of the tribe.
Beating another female was seen as disgraceful, even for a tribe leader’s daughter.
So she had been the one who quietly gave her father the idea to send Bai Lianhua away instead.
Of course, it was Xuan Long who had suggested it first.
Tomorrow, Bai Lianhua would leave the tribe for good.
With that thought, Su Qinglan’s heart finally felt lighter.
She leaned her head on Xuan Long’s chest.
His heartbeat was slow and steady, comforting like a drum.
Xuan Long smiled faintly and continued to pet her hair.
“Sleep,” he murmured.
“I’ll keep you warm.” She hummed softly in reply, her eyes already closing.
She would just take a nap.
In no time, she had already fallen asleep, breathing in and out calmly.
Xuan Long looked at her quietly.
The faint light spilled across her face, showing her small pouty lips and her soft cheeks.
A low sound left his throat before he even realized it.
“Why do you think so much?” he murmured.
“Females shouldn’t think that hard… You should just relax.” He leaned closer, brushing his fingers along her cheek.
Her skin was warm and soft… so soft that he couldn’t help but poke it gently.
She mumbled in her sleep, her lips moving faintly as if complaining.
He smiled, amused, and poked her again.
Her cheeks puffed a little, and he almost laughed.
“So soft,” he whispered, his deep voice almost a growl.
Her skin felt like silk under his fingertips, and the faint pink tint on her cheeks made him think of red fruits ripened under the sun.
He swallowed hard.
His gaze darkened as it drifted to her lips; they were small, rosy, and slightly parted.
His breath came out unevenly.
Slowly, he leaned down and placed her carefully on the stone bed.
Then, unable to resist, he lay beside her, pulling her into his arms.
Her body was small and warm against his chest.
He buried his face beside hers, their breaths brushing together.
“Female,” he whispered, voice rough with emotion, “you think about everyone but never about me.
When will you finally look at me… When will you mate with me?” He touched her cheek again, tracing its round shape with his thumb, looking at it intently before he realized his face was already inches away from hers.
Then, just for a moment… he couldn’t control himself and gently took her tender cheek between his lips.
They were tempting him like ripe red fruits.
The soft taste of her skin made his heart tremble.
He let go quickly, closing his eyes, forcing himself to calm down.
“This scent…” he muttered under his breath, voice low and shaky, “it’s driving me crazy for you.” He took another long breath, staring at her peaceful face.
Then, smiling faintly, he brushed a loose strand of hair from her forehead and whispered, “Sleep well, my little female.
Don’t dream too far from me.” He smiled faintly, almost bitterly, and rested his forehead against hers.
He wanted to hold her tighter, closer… yet he forced himself to remain still.
For a long time, he just stayed like that, watching her, calming himself with the sound of her heartbeat.
