126: Chapter 126: Rong Ye doubts Stove’s Intentions 126: Chapter 126: Rong Ye doubts Stove’s Intentions It was already late in the morning when three figures appeared far away from the cave, crouching low behind a patch of tall bushes.
Han Jue, Rong Ye, and the little plant, Stove, peeked through the leaves like a group of thieves spying on treasure.
Rong Ye squinted toward the cave and whispered, “Are you sure she’s here?” Beside him, Stove tilted his leafy head, then gave a firm bob…his way of nodding.
Han Jue stayed quiet for a moment, eyes fixed on the dark opening of the cave.
The calm expression on his face didn’t change, but his brows furrowed slightly.
“This place…” he muttered under his breath, “has a very strong scent of a feral beastman.
And not just any…he’s powerful.
The aura alone is suffocating.
Whoever lives here… has been here for many years.” He paused, scanning the area again before his tone grew doubtful.
“Why would Su Qinglan be here?” Rong Ye wrinkled his nose dramatically and covered it with his paws.
“Ugh…this entire place stinks!
Smells like a snake’s nest!” he said, glaring at the cave like it personally offended him.
“That damn snake’s scent is everywhere.
I can’t even pick up Qinglan’s scent because of him.” He leaned closer to Han Jue, whispering, “I’m telling you, this snake is in heat.
That’s why the smell’s so strong…it’s practically burning my nose off.” Han Jue gave him a side-eye.
“Are you sure it’s not just your imagination?” Rong Ye looked offended.
“My nose never lies.
I could smell a rotten berry from a mile away.” He turned to Stove, narrowing his eyes.
“Hey, you’re the one who said she’s here.
You’re not tricking us, are you?
Trying to get rid of us so that snake can eat us alive?” Stove froze.
His leafy head trembled, and two vines instantly rose up in protest, waving wildly.
Han Jue’s lips twitched as if fighting a smile.
“He’s saying no,” he said calmly.
Rong Ye wasn’t convinced.
He leaned close to the little plant, eyes narrowing suspiciously.
“Then how do you know she’s inside?
You smell her too?” Stove puffed up, leaves rustling noisily, and smacked Rong Ye’s face lightly with a vine.
“Hey!
Did you just hit me?!” Rong Ye hissed, rubbing his cheek.
Han Jue sighed, clearly not interested in their banter.
“You provoked him.” “I did not!
I was just asking a question!” Rong Ye snapped, glaring at the plant.
“You little green weed!
If you hit me again, I’ll pluck your leaves one by one!” In response, Stove’s vines snapped up like whips, curling threateningly in the air.
One even smacked the ground hard enough to send a puff of dust flying.
Han Jue exhaled slowly.
“Both of you.
Stop it.” Han Jue looked at them both and said in his calm and deep voice, “We came to find Su Qinglan, not start a fight.” Both Rong Ye and Stove were ready to fight.
They didn’t even take his words seriously.
Rong Ye’s tail bristled with annoyance as he glared at the little plant sitting smugly on the ground.
He seriously doubted that Stove was trying to get rid of him.
The thought made him even more furious.
Because why would he bring them to an unknown place that practically smells of a stinky feral beast, who is way more dangerous and powerful than them?
“You little green weed,” Rong Ye muttered under his breath.
“You just want to get rid of me, don’t you?
So you can live a lazy life and eat whatever you want without anyone scolding you!” Stove’s leaves shook wildly, his whole body trembling with anger.
The air around him even gave off a faint green glow.
He couldn’t talk, but his emotions were clear as day…he was furious.
After so much effort, he had finally found his master’s scent again, and now this silly fox was accusing him of betrayal!
If he wanted to get rid of Rong Ye, he thought angrily, he would’ve just devoured him whole with one big bite.
Why would he drag both of them all the way here just to “dispose” of them?
When the Beast God was giving out brains, Stove thought bitterly, This fox must have been running too fast to get one!
Han Jue, who had been standing quietly between them, finally sighed and glared at both.
“Enough,” he said in a low, firm tone.
“Stove is right.
Su Qinglan is here.
I can smell her scent…it’s faint, but it’s there.
We need to move closer to the cave to confirm.” Rong Ye’s ears perked up immediately.
“She’s here!?” he said, his voice rising with worry.
His tail flicked anxiously.
“Then what if that damn snake kidnapped her and brought her here by force?
We have to save her!” Without another word, he scooped up Stove and plopped the plant right on top of his head.
“Listen,” Rong Ye said seriously, pointing a claw toward the cave.
“If you see the snake, smack him right in the face!
Don’t hesitate!
I’ll back you up!” Stove stiffened on top of his head, leaves rustling nervously.
His whole body went rigid like a tree trunk.
What the hell?
he thought.
He’s telling me to smack a snake beastman in the face?
Is this fox insane?!
He was just a spiritual plant, not some fearless warrior!
He was afraid too!
But Rong Ye didn’t care.
He puffed up proudly and whispered, “Let’s go!
We’re rescuing Su Qinglan!” Han Jue gave him a tired look but didn’t stop him.
He knew there was no use arguing once Rong Ye made up his mind.
Quietly, he followed, his sharp eyes scanning the area carefully.
The three of them crept closer to the cave.
The air around them grew thick and heavy.
Even the forest seemed to go silent.
The closer they got, the stronger the scent became…rich, sharp, and full of dangerous energy.
Rong Ye was about to take another step when a low, deep hiss echoed behind them.
The sound froze them all instantly.
Every hair on Rong Ye’s body stood up straight.
Han Jue’s eyes turned cold, and a predatory glint appeared in his eyes.
And poor Stove…who had been stiff like a pine tree suddenly wilted flat against Rong Ye’s head, all his leaves drooping like dying grass.
All he wants is to pretend to be a dead plant and nothing else.
Slowly, very slowly, Rong Ye turned around.
And there it was.
A giant snake.
Its scales shimmered darkly, and its head alone was bigger than all three of them put together.
Its green emerald eyes glowed faintly as it watched them, tongue flicking in and out with a chilling hiss.
Rong Ye froze, his mouth falling open.
“Oh… Beast God help me…” he whispered.
Han Jue’s calm voice came quietly from beside him.
“I think,” he said slowly, “we just found the snake.” Rong Ye swallowed hard, not daring to move.
“Yeah,” he muttered, his voice shaking.
“And I think… it found us too.” Even Stove didn’t dare rustle.
He stayed completely flat on Rong Ye’s head, pretending to be a leaf.
The snake tilted its massive head slightly, watching them in silence.
The air was so still that not even the wind dared to blow.
One wrong move, and they all knew…they were done for.
