124: Chapter 124: Help Me Blow It…
She leaned closer.
There were several faint red lines across his pale face like nail marks.
“Xuan Long,” she said slowly, pointing at his face, “did a cat scratch you or something?
Why do you have bloody lines on your cheek?” Xuan Long’s body went rigid.
He blinked once, then looked away.
Hu Yan, who was sitting beside him, also froze.
His tail stopped moving completely.
Su Qinglan frowned.
“Wait a second…” She turned to look at Hu Yan.
He also had scratches on his face…similar ones.
And his hair was a mess, with a few twigs sticking out of it.
His body looked a bit dirty, and his cheek had a faint handprint.
She looked between the two of them.
Both had matching scratches.
Both looked awkward.
Both suddenly couldn’t meet her eyes.
Her mouth opened slowly.
“…Did someone attack you two?” Neither of them answered.
Hu Yan coughed and looked away, pretending to poke the fire.
Xuan Long cleared his throat and suddenly found the trees very interesting.
Su Qinglan narrowed her eyes.
“Don’t tell me…” Her gaze dropped to their tangled hair, dusty body, and identical guilty expressions.
“…You two fought each other, didn’t you?” Silence.
Both of them immediately shook their heads…too quickly and almost violently.
Like they were afraid; if they were a minute later, she wouldn’t believe them.
“No!” Hu Yan blurted, tail puffing up like a startled squirrel’s.
“Of course not!
We didn’t fight!
We just…uh…got…attacked!” “Attacked?” Su Qinglan repeated slowly, eyes narrowing.
“Yes!
By a beast!” Hu Yan said, nodding so fast his messy hair bounced.
“A small beast!
It was very tiny and quick.” Xuan Long added stiffly, “We thought it would be… tender meat.” Su Qinglan raised a brow.
“Tender meat?” “Yes,” Xuan Long said, his tone way too serious for someone who clearly had claw marks on his face.
“But it was fast like wind.
Before we could even blink…it jumped.” Hu Yan immediately mimed a dramatic leap with both hands.
“Right on his face!” “Your face too,” Xuan Long muttered under his breath.
Hu Yan shot him a glare.
“That’s because you pushed me into the bush!” “You grabbed my tail first.” “I was trying to help you stand!” “By pulling my tail?” Su Qinglan pressed a hand to her forehead, trying not to laugh.
“So let me get this straight,” she said.
“A tiny beast attacked you both… and you accidentally beat each other up while fighting it?” Hu Yan froze mid-defense.
“…No.” Xuan Long coughed.
“That would be… inaccurate.” Su Qinglan folded her arms.
“Uh-huh.” Trying desperately to save himself, Hu Yan suddenly brightened, his tail flicking.
“Anyway!
Don’t worry!
I got revenge!
I caught it later and grilled it!” She blinked.
“You what?” Hu Yan grinned proudly and pointed to the sizzling stick near the fire.
“There!
The beast that dared to scar our faces!
Now it’s dinner.” Su Qinglan stared at the pathetic, half-burnt lump on the stick.
“…That’s a long-eared beast.” Hu Yan gasped.
“No!
It’s not a long-eared beast!” He looked closer.
“…Okay, maybe it was a long-eared beast.
But it looked fierce!” Xuan Long sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
“You screamed louder than it did.” Hu Yan pouted.
“It jumped at me first!” Su Qinglan was still staring at them, her left eye twitching so hard it almost hurt.
Can she really believe their story?
Of course not.
Both Hu Yan and Xuan Long were sitting there like nothing ever happened…talking, roasting meat, and acting all calm and peaceful.
Which was highly suspicious.
She folded her arms, glaring at them with narrowed eyes.
Something definitely happened, she thought.
There’s no way these two beasts suddenly woke up this morning and decided to become best friends and go to hunt.
Her heart refused to believe it.
Hu Yan, she could trust; he was wild and childish but at least honest.
But Xuan Long?
That man was the walking definition of calm danger.
And the way he always looked at her…possessive, deep, and a little too serious…she knew his temper wasn’t gentle under that calm face.
So how on earth were they sitting there now, roasting meat side by side like brothers?
No.
Impossible, she thought firmly.
They definitely did something bad behind my back.
Before she could question them, Hu Yan suddenly hissed softly, turning his head toward her.
“Lan Lan, it still hurts…” he said, pointing pitifully at the red marks on his cheek.
“If you blow on it, it will heal faster.” Su Qinglan froze.
Her mind blanked for two full seconds.
Then her face exploded red.
“W-what did you just say?” Hu Yan blinked innocently, leaning closer.
“Blow here,” he said, tapping his cheek.
“It hurts.” She stared at him in disbelief.
Did he seriously just ask me to blow on his face like he’s a child who fell down?
Her hand twitched.
She was this close to smacking him.
“Hu Yan!” she said sharply, but her voice came out all flustered instead.
“You…you’re not a kid!
And blowing doesn’t heal anything!” He just tilted his head and looked at her with those big golden eyes full of fake innocence.
“But it works when you do it,” he said softly, tail flicking behind him.
Su Qinglan almost choked on air.
What kind of nonsense logic is that?!
Her face turned crimson, and just as she was about to scold him, Xuan Long suddenly spoke in his calm, deep voice, “If blowing helps, then blow here too.” Su Qinglan froze again and turned to stare at him in horror.
He was pointing at his cheek too, completely serious, like this was a normal request between civilized adults.
For a long second, her brain just stopped working.
“…What?” she said weakly.
“It hurts,” Xuan Long said, his expression calm as ever.
“You should treat both of us equally.” Su Qinglan’s mouth dropped open.
Treat equally!?
Since when does equality mean blowing on two grown beastmen’s faces!?
