111: Chapter 111: Did the snake lord kidnap the female?
The sound alone was enough to freeze every bull in place.
The fields went silent instantly.
Not even a fly dared to buzz.
Every beastman stopped mid-movement with wide eyes, not even breathing too loudly.
Su Qinglan stared at him, her jaw dropping open.
“Why…why are you like this?!” She said, “I told you to calm them down, not scare them even more!” Xuan Long looked down at her, his expression completely blank.
His tail flicked once, almost like a confused gesture.
“But I did what you asked,” he said, sounding honestly puzzled.
“They are quiet now.” Su Qinglan groaned and pressed her palm against her forehead.
“Quiet because they think you’ll eat them if they move!” she muttered under her breath.
The Fat Bull tribe beasts slowly looked up from where they were bowing and trembling.
Their eyes darted between the massive emerald snake and the tiny female standing in front of him.
At first, they hadn’t even noticed her.
She was so small compared to him that she looked like a leaf stuck to his scales.
But now, as she stood in front of him with her hair shining in the sunlight and her green dress fluttering softly, the same deep shade of green as his scales, they all froze for a different reason.
Their jaws dropped slightly.
“Is that… a female?” one bull whispered to another.
“She’s so pale… look at her skin!” another said, eyes wide.
“And her hair… it is so beautiful!” “She’s… she’s wearing the same color as the great serpent,” someone else whispered in horror.
The realization slowly spread through the tribe like wildfire.
“Wait…don’t tell me… she’s mated with him?!” “Impossible!
The great serpent lord has a mate?” “Or… maybe he kidnapped her?” another one whispered nervously.
“Poor thing!
She must be forced to live with that evil snake!” Su Qinglan, of course, could hear every bit of their mumbling now.
Her face turned completely red.
Behind her, Xuan Long tilted his head slightly, his golden eyes narrowing.
“Who dares say that?” he hissed.
Immediately, every single bull beast dropped to their knees again with loud thuds, their horns almost burying into the mud.
Su Qinglan turned and glared at him so hard she almost burned a hole through his scales.
“You are not helping!” she said between clenched teeth.
Xuan Long blinked again, completely confused.
“I just wanted them to listen,” he said quietly.
“Yeah, well, congratulations,” she said, sighing.
“Now they think I’ve been kidnapped by a giant snake.” The bulls all stayed perfectly still, not daring to move.
The scene looked so ridiculous…
a huge emerald serpent looking confused, a tiny woman scolding him like an angry wife, and an entire tribe frozen in terror.
If it wasn’t so tense, it would’ve been the funniest thing in the world.
Su Qinglan rubbed her forehead and muttered under her breath, “Next time, I’m doing the talking.
You’re banned from hissing.” Su Qinglan quickly realized that as long as Xuan Long stayed in his snake form, the poor bull beastmen would never calm down.
Their eyes were wide, their knees were shaking, and not a single one of them dared to even look up.
She sighed softly…this was not how she wanted things to go.
She wanted to talk with them, to maybe learn something about how they lived.
But with Xuan Long looking like some giant snake, that was clearly impossible.
“Xuan Long,” she whispered to him, “change back into your human form, not half beast.
You’re scaring them.” He turned to her, his emerald eyes blinking once.
Then, without a word, his giant body began to glow faintly.
The air shimmered, and within seconds, the massive serpent was gone.
In his place stood a tall man with long black hair, pale skin, and sharp, beautiful eyes that still carried a dangerous gleam.
Su Qinglan blinked, stunned.
It was her first time seeing him fully human.
Before she could even say anything, he moved with lightning speed, picking up a piece of his own shed snakeskinand wrapping it around his waist like a robe.
It wasn’t fancy, but it somehow suited him.
The color matched her own green dress, and when she realized that, her cheeks went red.
They looked like a pair that had planned to dress alike.
She quickly shook her head, pushing that thought away.
Now was not the time.
The old bull beastman was still kneeling, trembling.
Su Qinglan hurried forward and bowed slightly to him.
“Grandpa, please don’t be afraid,” she said softly.
“We didn’t come to take anything.
We’ll exchange fairly.
He’s not dangerous…just a little…overprotective.” She smiled kindly, hoping to calm the old bull’s nerves.
But instead, her words seemed to confuse him even more.
Not dangerous?
The old bull almost wanted to laugh…or cry.
How could that terrifying serpent not be dangerous?
Just this morning, he’d seen the same snake lord devour a ferocious beast in one bite.
Now he was back again!
Of course he wanted to devour them now.
The other bulls whispered quietly among themselves.
Some of them still looked nervous, but when they glanced at Xuan Long and saw Su Qinglan standing beside him, a small bit of relief crossed their faces.
Maybe he really isn’t here to eat us or snatch their females… they thought.
He already has a beautiful female.
Why would he need to snatch ours?
Their horns drooped a little as the tension slowly faded.
A few even wiped the sweat from their foreheads.
Then, suddenly, a young bull beastman stepped forward.
He was shaking from head to hoof, but he still managed to speak.
“Female,” he stammered, “did… did he kidnap you?
If you want, you can stay with our tribe.
We’ll protect you.” Su Qinglan blinked at him, confused.
Wait…why do they think Xuan Long has kidnapped her?
Before she could reply, a strong arm suddenly wrapped around her waist, pulling her back.
Her body hit a warm, solid chest.
She didn’t even need to turn to know who it was.
Xuan Long’s dark expression could have frozen fire.
His eyes narrowed dangerously at the young bull.
The bull beastman trembled so hard it looked like his horns were shaking too.
But to his credit, he didn’t run away.
