Chapter 362: okay
Fang Yuan slowly closed the booklet and set it aside. His fingers tapped lightly on the armrest.
“Young Lady Xiao,” he said with an easy smile that did not reach his eyes, “tell me everything you know about me. I want to see just how… devoted you are.”
Her eyes lit up like a child being handed sweets.
She clasped her hands and leaned forward eagerly.
“Forgive me, Brother Tian. I do not know your background before arriving here… but you first appeared in this city three years ago.”
Three years ago…?
Fang Yuan’s brows tightened.
If that was true, then this Fang Tian might not be the same one… It’s not even a year since I banished him.
But he kept silent and let her continue.
“You entered the city tournament and ranked first. You defeated every genius and took the championship title.”
Her voice carried both admiration and pride. “You also won the right to marry the City Lord’s daughter, but… you said you would never marry someone who does not love you back.”
Her cheeks flushed and her voice softened like velvet.
“That was when I fell in love with you.”
Fang Yuan looked away.
He could practically taste the devotion dripping from that confession.
He let a moment pass, then asked calmly, “Is that all?”
“No, no, there is more,” she quickly said, anxious not to disappoint him.
“After that, you joined the Soaring Dragon Sect. That is where you met Zhu Xian, a Core Disciple of the Flying Crane Sect who had come to visit sect leader Qin Shi Huang.”
Her fingers fiddled with the edge of her robe.
“And… I recognized you because the false name you used here is Zhu Yao. So… I doubted for only a second before I was sure.”
Fang Yuan pressed two fingers to his forehead.
Xiao Ninger wasn’t done.
She leaned in again, voice growing softer.
“Oh, and… that day you were seriously beaten by Elder Hao for pursuing Zhu Xian, his disciple.”
Fang Yuan’s eye twitched.
“When you were on the brink of death… Sect Leader Qin Shi Huang stepped in and saved you.”
She hesitated, timidly studying his expression, perhaps afraid she had touched a wound he did not wish to recall.
Seeing no anger on his face, she released the breath she was holding.
“Brother Tian… I heard you were preparing for the three-year promise. I thought you came here this time because of that.”
Fang Yuan winced inside.
Three years promise? Is this Fang Tian similar to the Fang Tian i know but they just happened to be different? And what does she mean if I came here this time because of that? Is today the day the three year time is up?
So then, is Fang Tian really on his way here?
After a moment, he raised his eyes to hers.
“Xiao Ninger,” he asked calmly, “can you obtain that seal for me… in exchange for a Hollow Spirit Pill?”
Shock flashed in her expression.
“Brother Tian? Are you sure? A Hollow Spirit Pill costs a fortune.”
Fang Yuan nodded, voice turning low and earnest.
“It is worth it… if I can meet my fiancée even one second longer.”
The words stabbed directly into her heart,
jealousy flickered across her eyes.
Exactly what Fang Yuan intended, he could not directly tell her to stop liking Fang Tian, a guy who had a fiancee.
But he could guide her toward reality, he pressed further, voice slightly firmer.
“So can you get it for me or not? I will give you another Hollow Spirit Pill if you do.”
She stared at the pill in his hand.
Desire for power warred with the pain in her chest.
And that pain… won.
“Is she really worth that much…?” she whispered.
“Yes,” Fang Yuan replied without a hint of hesitation. “She is the world to me.”
Xiao Ninger’s throat bobbed as she swallowed hard.
“…Very well,” she said quietly. “But I do not want your pills. I am doing this… for my own peace of heart.”
She turned and walked out, her steps faster than before, as though she needed to escape him or her own thoughts.
Fang Yuan did not stop her and he simply leaned back and watched the curtain fall behind her.
Well… that was easier than expected.
With a faint smirk, he summoned the translucent screen that hovered before his vision.
[Mission: Reclaim the Elder Seal of Zhao Lusi]
Reward: Talent Root Enhancement Shard
Failure Penalty: Hao Lo will encounter a major fortuitous opportunity
Fang Yuan’s eyes gleamed.
Take that, Hao Lo, he laughed silently in his heart.
Bored, he then flipped through the booklet a while longer, but nothing else caught his eye.
Each artifact, weapon, and treasure listed made him desire for them, but seeing the price made him see reality.
He closed it with a quiet sigh.
I have nothing worth trading here anyway.
Just as he set it aside, the curtain to the booth lifted once more.
Xiao Ninger stepped in.
Her eyes were a little red, but she wore a gentle smile. She held out a small jade token wrapped in a silk cloth, the Elder Seal.
“I pray you both a successful future,” she said softly.
Fang Yuan accepted the seal with both hands, the weight of his quest lifting instantly from his shoulders.
System mission… completed.
He met her gaze and offered a sincere nod.
“Thank you very much, Miss Xiao. I will repay this favor someday.”
She nodded, silent.
Fang Yuan left the booth and made his way out of the auction house, steps light and confident. The night air welcomed him like a cool embrace.
“It has not even been six hours,” he muttered with a small victorious smile, heading back toward the inn where his hopeless master was surely still drowning herself in wine.
High above, from the VIP balcony, Xiao Ninger watched his figure disappear into the lantern-lit streets.
He looked so happy now that he had the seal and seeing that, a quiet ache rose in her chest.
Why can’t I find someone who would love me… the way he loves her?
She blinked away a fresh layer of tears, straightened her robe, and turned away from the railing, carrying that fragile smile.
