Chapter 357: 25
The battlefield lay silent behind the drunk man, littered everywhere with blood, carcases and broken armor.

The drunk man staggered forward as his wine dropped down slowly from his beard.

He walked without a direction only to stop and take a another swig of the wine, followed by another.

His steps wobbled and his breath hitched when suddenly he came to an abrupt stop.

“…Ah…”

He blinked slowly.

“Oh—”

His lips curled into a crooked, drunken grin.

“—I should have gone looking for good old Dapang!”

His voice lifted with sudden cheer, completely out of place among the corpses.

“That fatty should still be alive somewhere…”

He nodded to himself, swaying.

“Yes, yes… if I’m angry, he should be mad with anger!”

And then he laugh yet it felt as if his soul left his throat.

“He can help me exact revenge… for our sworn brother…”

His voice softened.

“…Fang Yuan…”

His smile turned sad.

“YES! Dapang!” he declared loudly, slapping his own back. “He owes me wine anyway! Hahaha!”

With that, he suddenly staggered forward then broke into an unsteady run, arms flailing like a madman.

“Hahahaha! DAPANG!! YOU BETTER NOT BE DEAD, YOU FAT BASTARD!!”

Somewhere around the Garden in the Feng Estate:

Xiao Pei suddenly sneezed.

“—ACHOO!!”

Du Juan instantly rushed over, eyes widening.

“Xiao Pei! Are you sick?”

Her hands were already on his cheeks checking his temperature.

“Does your throat hurt? Are you cold? Did you catch some strange qi backlash?”

Xiao Pei waved his hands quickly.

“No, no! I’m fine!”

He rubbed his nose.

“I just feel like someone’s talking behind my back…”

He cupped his hands around his ears and shook his head.

Fang Yuan, still rubbing Lin Zhaoyue’s back in slow circles, didn’t look up as he spoke.

“Da Pang,” he said in a flat tone,

“perhaps your parents finally found out about your hidden porn magazine. And now they’re thinking of ways to get you back?”

Xiao Pei froze but so did Du Juan froze.

Even Lin Zhaoyue paused her groaning to blink in confusion.

Xiao Pei pointed at himself, offended.

“…Brother Fang, why would you say something like—”

Fang Yuan tried to hide his laugh as he responded, ” I’m just saying that’s a possibility.”

Du Juan slowly turned her head toward him.

Her eyes narrowed.

“…Porn magazine?”

Xiao Pei turned pale.

“W-Wait Du Juan dear—my love—listen—it’s not what you think—!”

Lin Zhaoyue, now leaning half against Fang Yuan’s shoulder, murmured in a faint voice:

“Men… are all trash…”

Xiao Pei shot up from the ground like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.

“Shaoge!” he pointed accusingly at Fang Yuan, eyes wide with betrayal.

“You PROMISED to never say that in front of others! Don’t blame me but—YOU STARTED THI—”

Before he could finish, Fang Yuan moved like lightning.

With a subtle flick of his fingers, a thin veil of spiritual qi wrapped around Xiao Pei’s mouth.

The process was silent, invisible, and executed so cleanly that no one else noticed a thing.

“MMMPH—!!”

Xiao Pei’s eyes bulged.

“Mmmff—!! MMPH—!!”

His words were aggressive, outraged, and utterly incomprehensible under Fang Yuan’s qi.

He flailed his arms, trying to pry open his mouth,

“MMMMMPH!! MMF MRGHH!—”

Du Juan blinked, confused.

“…what happened?”

Lin Zhaoyue, still leaning against Fang Yuan, tilted her head lightly.

“I always thought my mother was exaggerating when she said people go mad from anger,” she murmured.

Fang Yuan’s steps faltered for a moment as his gaze shifted to her.

Her mother? Did she… just recall something from watching Xiao Pei?

Xiao Pei stomped his foot angrily.

“MMPH! MMF! MMMMH—!!”

Fang Yuan didn’t even look at him.

“I can’t hear what you’re trying to say,” he said calmly.

Xiao Pei tried to shout louder but it all came out as:

“MMMMM—PFFFGHHH—MMMRFFFFHH!!”

Du Juan sighed heavily.

“…Xiao Pei, breathe. Deep breath, let your anger out.”

Xiao Pei shook his head violently.

“MMMPHH!! MMM!—!!”

Just as Xiao Pei was on the verge of passing out, a familiar voice called out,

“Yuan’er!”

Fang Yuan blinked and immediately withdrew the qi around Xiao Pei’s mouth.

Xiao Pei collapsed onto the grass and sucked in air like a dying fish resurfacing.

“HAH—HAH—HAH—! Shaoge… I almost ascended!”

Fang Chen strode up the path, robes fluttering, face bright.

“Good day, everyone!” he said warmly.

Lin Zhaoyue lifted her head from Fang Yuan’s shoulder, a gentle smile forming.

“Uncle Chen,” she greeted softly, voice warm, “it’s good to see you.”

Fang Chen smiled at Zhaoyue’s greeting, then turned his attention to Fang Yuan with a slightly more serious tone.

“Yuan’er, Doctor Mu wishes to meet you.”

Fang Yuan raised an eyebrow.

“Doctor Mu?”

Fang Chen nodded quickly.

“He’s just returned to the estate. And… he brought a young child with him.”

“A child?” Fang Yuan repeated.

Fang Chen leaned in slightly, lowering his voice.

“Yes. He says… the child is related to you.”

The air fell silent and Xiao Pei stopped massaging his cheeks as he stared at Fang Yuan in disbelief.

Lin Zhaoyue blinked slowly, tilting her head.

Fang Yuan’s expression was a mix of confusion and suspicion.

Enough for Fang Chen to add quickly,

“He didn’t say how yet. Only that it’s important.”

Lin Zhaoyue tightened her hold on Fang Yuan’s sleeve.

“…A child?” she murmured.

Xiao Pei whispered, “Shaoge… don’t tell me you… you know… before?”

Du Juan slapped the back of his head.

Fang Yuan exhaled deeply.

“…Let’s go meet Doctor Mu.”

As they walked, Fang Yuan’s thoughts slowly stirred.

Doctor Mu… returning to the estate? How did he do that? When the fang clan was relocating, Doctor Mu was nowhere to be found..

Doctor Mu was supposed to be a normal human, who had no cultivation to lean on.

It was because his skills on medication were anything but ordinary, he was so proficient, it even made other cultivators feel ashamed and respect him at the same time.

But still… a normal human shouldn’t have been able to travel freely.

And certainly not through dangerous regions like Mount Skyhowl.

So how had he made the journey…. something didn’t quite add up.
