Chapter 313: 313- Xiao Pei [3]
He thrust forward and as the air shattered, a storm of crimson exploded from the spear, spiraling into a massive beam of condensed qi.

It tore across the garden like a demonic inferno, splitting the air with a deafening roar, shaking leaves from branches and sending spiritual butterflies fleeing.

Fang Yuan felt the force rush toward him.

Ah… this could indeed force a Peak Nascent Soul cultivator to defend properly.

Not bad, Xiao Pei.

But he didn’t make a move and simply stared at it.

At the very last moment, as the crimson blast was about to swallow him whole, Fang Yuan raised two fingers… and flicked.

Snap.

The entire technique seemed to collapsed as the swirling beam shattered like glass, dispersing harmlessly into gentle sparks that drifted down like crimson petals onto the grass.

Silence grabbed attention of the place as Xiao Pei stood frozen, mouth open, his spear still extended mid-thrust.

And then it spilled.

“BROTHER FANG!!! THAT’S NOT FAIR!!”

His voice cracked with equal parts despair and disbelief.

“NOT FAIR! NOT FAIR! I HAD IT—THAT SHOULD HAVE HIT—WHAT EVEN—HOW DID YOU—?!”

Fang Yuan calmly dusted a stray petal off his sleeve.

“Alright,” he said mildly, “now that you have no spiritual energy left, I’ll give you some advice on that move of yours.”

Xiao Pei looked like a man whose world had just ended.

Fang Yuan held up a finger.

“First — it takes too long to charge.”

I had millions of opportunities to kill you during that time he added internally.

“Secondly, that’s a hit-or-miss move. Very useless if anyone with a brain is watching you charge it as it takes too long as well.”

“And third…”

Fang Yuan paused, eyes narrowing slightly with judgment.

“…the name sucks.”

Xiao Pei’s mouth dropped.

“WHAT?! Like you can name it any better?! What kind of move names are ‘Cowardice’ and ‘Bravery’? Who names techniques after personality traits? What am I supposed to shout — ‘COWARDICE SLASH’?!”

Fang Yuan let out a laugh, completely unbothered.

“Da Pang, everything the winner says is fair. Deal with it. Hahaha!”

Xiao Pei stared at him,”Shaoge… you’re bullying me at this point…”

He then dropped onto the grass like a puppet whose strings had been cut.

He lay completely flat, arms spread out, staring blankly at the sky.

His voice came out small…:

“By the way, brother Fang… is it true… that Sister Zhaoyue… has lost her memories… and is now… more gentle…?”

Lin Zhaoyue blinked at him, confused while Fang Yuan merely looked at him in silence.

But before he could answer—

“Yuan’er! YUAN’ERRRR!”

A panicked yell tore through the garden and all three of them turned together.

Fang Chen came sprinting down the stone path, robes flying behind him, hair messier than Xiao Pei.

He looked like he’d run across the entire mountain.

“Uncle?” Fang Yuan stood, instantly alert.

“What happened? Why are you in such a hurry?”

Fang Chen skidded to a stop, bent over, gasping.

Then—

He broke into a huge grin.

“GOOD NEWS!” he shouted triumphantly.

Then, raising a finger, quickly added, “Oh, and bad news—BUT also good news! But ALSO bad news—BUT most importantly—GOOD NEWS!”

Fang Yuan frowned. “Uncle… please start with one version of the news.”

Fang Chen suddenly straightened, scanning the area.

His eyes landed on Lin Zhaoyue and he immediately bowed deeply, voice respectful:

“Matriarch! Please come as well!”

Lin Zhaoyue startled slightly at the title, pointing at herself. “M-Me?”

“Yes! You! Matriarch!” Fang Chen insisted, waving her over urgently.

A moment later, they all gathered, Fang Yuan, Lin Zhaoyue, Xiao Pei dragging himself up like a dying worm, and Fang Chen practically buzzing with excitement.

Fang Yuan crossed his arms. “Alright, Uncle. What happened?”

Fang Chen took a deep breath…

Then his eyes gleamed.

“One of the Saberfang Beasts—”

he paused for dramatic effect, grinning wide,

“—is STILL ALIVE!”

The words hit the group like a thunderclap.

Xiao Pei sat straight up so fast he almost passed out.

Lin Zhaoyue looked confused on the other hand Fang Yuan’s expression sharpened instantly.

A Saberfang?

Fang Chen nodded wildly. “YES! It’s alive! And I have a LEAD!”

Fang Chen’s breath grew tight again as urgency overtook his excitement.

“But we have to hurry, Yuan’er.”

His voice dropped, serious and tense. “This information isn’t private. The Saberfang was discovered by a wandering villager, and he already spread the tale. The kingdoms might take action soon.”

Fang Yuan’s expression hardened immediately anf he gave a small nod to him and then a heartbeat later—

WOOOM.

A silent ripple spread through the garden as Fang Yuan released his divine sense.

Ever since reaching Level 3, his authority domain hadn’t merely expanded like the usual, this time his divine sense had also been upgraded.

Its range now could sweep across entire continents with terrifying ease.

His consciousness burst outward like an unseen tidal wave.

In mere seconds he reached the ruins of Coldwind City.

Fang Yuan’s eyes narrowed as the once-thriving city was desolate with crumbling walls and broken roofs.

Silent streets where the only movement came from a few ragged beggars huddling near collapsed buildings.

But deeper inside near the old Fang estate’s borders was a massive shadow stirred.

His divine sense brushed across razor-sharp fangs the size of spears, dark fur striped with silver patterns, and the unmistakable aura of the Saberfang line.

Fang Yuan instantly withdrew his divine sense and then opened his eyes.

“Uncle Chen,” he said softly.

“Thank you… truly.”

Fang Chen stood taller, puffing proudly.

“No need, no need! If you’re truly thankful…”

He rubbed his hands together, grinning like a fox.

“…I hope we can build cultivation caves again. You know—like before. With that well artifact of yours.”

He lowered his voice conspiratorially.

“A larger one would be… truly helpful.”

Fang Yuan couldn’t help the laugh that slipped out.

“You’re right, Uncle. Prepare everything like last time… but make the center well more vast. We’ll accommodate more this time.”

Fang Chen lit up like a child given a treasure.

“YOU SAID IT, YUAN’ER! This old bone will get going then!”

He turned, already half-running as excitement surged in his steps.

But before leaving, he stopped abruptly, turned back, and bowed deeply to Lin Zhaoyue.

“Matriarch Lin,” he said respectfully, “please look after my nephew well.”

Lin Zhaoyue blinked, startled by the formality.
