- Chapter 277 - 277 277- Updated
277: 277- Updated* 277: 277- Updated* The battlefield which was moments ago echoing with steel and shouts, fell eerily silent as dust trembled across the ground.
“I–I’m telling you there was no hill there when we first came here!” one soldier stammered, clutching his spear so tightly his knuckles went white.
“You fool, you’re blind!
I swear on my ancestors that hill just moved!
It’s coming closer-look!” another screamed, pointing with a shaking hand.
A third scout stumbled forward, face drained of all color.
“R-report!
The hill… the hill is approaching us!” A ripple of panic spread through the ranks.
Men craned their necks, eyes wide as they watched the enormous Saberfang beasts stride into view, their silhouettes blotting out the rising sun like living mountains.
Atop the lead beast sat a young woman with flowing hair, her presence regal and terrifying, smiling as though she had come for nothing more than a stroll.
The clash between the Qin and Azure Phoenix armies ground to a halt mid-swing.
Swords froze in the air, spears lowered uncertainly, and entire battalions broke formation, staring in disbelief.
“What the hell is going on!?” roared a Qin general, veins bulging at his temple as his men shrank back behind him.
“Report!
Who dares interrupt our battle!?” bellowed an Azure Phoenix commander, though his voice cracked with strain, betraying his unease.
Both camps had agreed only days ago, the Fang family was a problem best left alone, a thorn not worth grasping while greater wars loomed.
Coldwind City was theirs, let them rot in it.
But now, now those very same “barbarians” had come storming into the battlefield, riding living calamities.
Murmurs rose in terrified waves.
“Why are they here!?” “Didn’t we leave them alone!?” “Have the heavens cursed us!?” Generals from both sides exchanged frantic, bewildered glances.
Their strategies, their grudges, their carefully laid plans, shattered in an instant by the sight of one girl and her titanic beasts walking casually into the heart of their war.
Confusion reigned while fear mounted.
The battlefield, once drenched in the certainty of bloodshed, now trembled under the weight of a single question that neither camp could answer- What the hell was the Fang family doing here?!
In the Qin army camp, Qin Qishi Shi, the seventieth emperor of the Tharz Kingdom, shot up from his chair in a single, fluid motion.
His eyes burned with a fire that seemed to cut through the tension, his lips curling into a cruel grin.
“What did I tell you, General Zhuge?” he declared, his voice carrying across the command tent like thunder.
“This Fang family… arrogant beyond words!” His hand snapped to the hilt of his sword, drawing the blade with a ringing shiiing that silenced even the murmurs outside.
He raised it high, eyes fixed toward the looming Saberfangs in the distance.
“Today, we slaughter the Fang family.
They have stepped out of their turtle shell, we shall take this opportunity to crush them underfoot!” The words ignited the tent like a spark to dry kindling.
General Ming and General Zhou immediately unsheathed their own blades, steel flashing under the lamplight.
One after another, generals followed, the heavy rhythm of swords sliding free filling the chamber until the air itself seemed to tremble with murderous intent.
But amid the roaring battle cries and bloodthirsty resolve, General Zhuge’s breath caught in his throat.
His eyes darted from one drawn blade to the next, his mind piecing together the sudden clarity.
Only now did he realize why both kings had summoned every general into one place.
It hadn’t been a council of war.
It had been a stage.
A stage for deception.
They had planned this.
The downfall of the Fang family had already been decided, both kings had even kept it hidden from their own trusted generals.
And when they all stormed out of their respective tents, weapons gleaming, Zhuge’s suspicion turned to dread.
Tens of thousands of soldiers formed ranks with drilled precision, armor clattering, spears thumping against the earth.
The order had been given, yet on their faces, uncertainty flickered.
Whispers traveled through the lines like wildfire, hushed but sharp with unease.
“I thought we were fighting the Azure Phoenix army…” one soldier muttered under his breath, hands trembling on his spear.
“Same here… why are we all turning toward that?” his companion hissed back, eyes fixed on the monstrous silhouette lumbering closer.
“It’s not one beast-it’s four!
Heaven help us…” another soldier gasped, stumbling as he craned his neck to see the Saberfangs moving like living hills against the horizon.
Even hardened veterans who had marched through years of bloodshed shifted uncomfortably, their formation stiff but their hearts pounding.
They had faced men, armies, even cultivators before but this was different.
Across the field, the Azure Phoenix soldiers were no less unsettled.
Their armor glinted under the dying sun, their banners fluttered in the wind but their murmurs betrayed the same creeping dread.
“Why aren’t we facing the Qin dogs?” one man whispered, sweat dripping down his cheek.
“Because we got a new opponent to be taking care of,” another answered, voice tight.
“They’re over… there.” Eyes followed his gesture, and silence fell.
The Saberfangs advanced, their sheer size distorting the ground beneath their paws.
Each step was a quake, each exhale a gust of white vapor.
At their head rode a lone woman, her dark hair streaming behind her, her lips curled in the faintest, most unsettling smile.
Both armies felt it at once, that this was no longer a war between kingdoms.
This was something else entirely.
High above them, Lin Zhaoyue sat astride Xiao Bai’s broad back, her robes snapping in the wind.
From the corner of her eye, she saw the two armies aligning not against each other, but against her.
Her playful smile froze for a heartbeat.
Then her brow twitched, her lips curved back upward, and she muttered under her breath.
“Shit… I wasn’t informed of this development.” A laugh bubbled in her throat, half-disbelief, half-thrill.
She forced a brighter smile, her eyes glittering with manic amusement as her fingers stroked Xiao Bai’s fur.
“Well… I suppose this means husband won’t be angry at me anymore,” she said sweetly, her tone light as silk, though her gaze sharpened like a drawn blade.
Because now, it wasn’t her who had provoked war.
It was two kingdoms who had chosen to point their swords at the Fang family first.
